Brett, I think you can feel comfortable taking that bad boy over the road and just keep a spare carto or two as backup (just in case). I have never had a coil fail. Going on two weeks on these here now. I am glad you got it going strong!

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I'll probably wait for a REOMizer 2.0 and a ShortStop to use with my mini 2.1 :D
The VVGrand stays at Home! and that's what I'm using so far. The short protection of the VVG is a good option !

I found this pic of my last hornet coil and cotton wick.

Is that a seven wrap around cotton balls ?

Its a lot of wraps probably like 10 but remember that coil is VERY small in diameter. 1/16" outside diameter! That is rolled cotton, it is like a cotton ball only on a big roll (and its sterile).

I roll em real thin then thread em thru the coil. With the hornet, it helps to roll em long, then trim once in final position. It is a SWEET vape setup. I used a picture hanging nail to wrap it!

Hey, Drifter, what gauge wire do you use there? Is that 30?

Playing with my new toy (Hornet), and just can't get it to act how I like yet. So weird -- I can build a Reomizer or A7 in about 5 minutes, while driving in a nic coma. But this thing is giving me all kinds of hard time.

Yes sir Commie, 30 is all I have. I like it a lot. You can definitely shoot for higher ohms when you use a micro coil. I don't know a scientific explanation, but I liked around a 1 ohm when I wound bigger dia coils, with the micro, 1.5 even 1.7 produce a better vape? Seems about right though - since I liked 1.7 cartos. Try about 10 or 11 wraps around a very small object and see how ya like it?

I had previously tried cotton before but really wasn't thrilled with it so i out it aside. After seeing that so many people here liked it a tried an 8/9 wrap of 28ga Kanthal around some organic cotton balls and seem to like it a lot better now. However, I am getting a lot of popping out of my wick. Does anyone have an idea of why this happening?

Yay! Finally got my Hornet to work the way I like.

1. The reason it was leaking from the airhole is cause my coil was too high. I bent the legs and put it closer to the deck, and it's leaking only when I flood now

2. That also allowed m to use my large diameter (3mm) coils, and 30ga wire. I did try micro coils, Drifter, but didn't like it -- it seemed to wick too slow

3. I noticed that wrapping free ends of my wick around both posts works great for two reasons. It somehow prevents the atty from getting hot, and it creates a sort of a tube around the juice hole. You can squeeze the bottle all you want, it will wet the wick, but once you release the bottle, it sucks the extra juice back up. All that wicking looks like an atrocious birds' nest though.

At the danger of repeating myself -- yay!

#3 I did the sam thing when I had my Hornet. I originally did it cause I had seen pic of it being done. Yeah it just makes sense.

An Observation; I can squonk this Hornet pretty good, watching the fluid rise up to nearly the top of the posts. After 3 or 4 good vapes I look again and the catchcup is nearly empty! Is this normal ? I don't mind extra squonking for extra preformance, but ....

Completely normal. I squonk and hold the bottle pressed till I see juice at the air hole. Press too much from that point and you will have juice leaking from the air intake. Release the pressure slowly and the excess gets sucked back into the bottle. That usually has me good for about four to five good drags.

No and no. If you want one that will fit the 14500 Mini, you need to PM Rob and ask him to shave one down a little smaller to fit. And...the zig zag configuration will probably not work. The way the posts are positioned in relation to the squonk hole, a side build fits best. Doing a zig zag coil so that the main part of the coil is right over the middle is not where you want it to be on this RBA. The coil needs to be on the side, near the hole.

EDIT: There IS enough room between the posts to to a "Z" coil....it just isn't the best configuration based on where the juice comes in.
