If I may make one more suggestion when you get the MEL RY4, try it in something low voltage like a 2-2.4 ohm carto on an ego and then try it at something higher. The difference I get in flavor and TH is ridiculous from a 2 ohm carto on a ego, to 4.1V on a 1.5 ohm dual coil carto tank on my Provari. I've found that some of the flavors MEL uses change drastically and flavors that are supposed to be in a juice do not come alive until they really heat up.

Hey Bill, someone just PMed me this post. Leave it to you to say what I only have said to two people: my friend and ECF member Kemosabe, and Nick, the owner of GoodeJuice. I cannot stop smiling at that line, "And yes, scarfy, Vita Bella is terrific. It's Bounty Hunter with cojones." I have said something very similar ;) to Nick and he is aware of resemblance, but I believe he doesn't even know what BH tastes like -- well, aside from it being Vita Bella with the voice of a castrato.

Mr.Mann,

Way back in the days when Vita Bella was relatively new and Bounty Hunter could be purchased whenever one felt like doing so (LOL), I left numerous posts in various review threads of both juices/vendors reporting that I had discovered a pretty good replicant of the discontinued and sorely lamented Vape-TV 95%VG version of Bounty Hunter (even today, I still have about 23mls of the original Vape-TV BH, so I don’t have to reconstruct the flavor from flawed memory---I know how it actually tastes).

Make a Frankenjuice out of 2/3 regular Bounty Hunter and 1/3 Vita Bella. Voila! Instant Vape-TV Bounty Hunter. Well, almost. The base is still about 60/40 PG/VG rather than 5/95, and the respective flavors aren’t quite identical, but they're definitely close enough for horseshoes.

I still vape regular Bounty Hunter often, especially when my palate needs a respite from the stronger tobacco flavors. BH’s smooth vanilla wafer and lack of tobacco can be soothing.

Oddly enough, I hardly ever vape Vita Bella by itself anymore. I like it better as FrankenBellaHunter, although I’ve reversed the proportions: now I use 60% Vita Bella to 40% regular Bounty Hunter. Yum!

p.s. I always wondered about the other version. Even if its not a dead ringer, I am not that good at horseshoes -- close enough works!

Lbox,

I'll try the MEL RY4 two ways (at least): 1. in a 2.4 ohm Phoenix/CE3 bottom-coil clearo, which produces amazingly clean flavors, but only at low voltage. Anything more than 3.7 and the juice degrades and gets burny, and 2. in a 2.6 ohm Ultimate CE2 clearo, which gets better the higher you crank up the volts/watts. I've come to like those Ultimate CE2s a lot, in part because removing the inner "syringe" cap allows refilling directly from the bottle, in part because of the unbreakable tubes, and especially because they're extremely voltage-tolerant with a very wide power band. They work well at low voltage (3.4-3.7, but they can handle higher volts (4-6) happily without distorting the flavor of the juice in an unpleasant way.

Not sure if you have every tried any of the RY4s from TW but I can tell you TW Patriot Range RY4 taste nothing like Dekang. Mom & Pops Ry4 tobacco in my opinion taste the way cat pee smells  Can you verify that statment? I know the other juices they have are Joyetech.

JFYI Totally Wicked Ry4 is just Hansens Ry4 flavoring and nothing more. Doesn't make it bad but it definitely doesn't make it special as other actually craft their own. My top Ry4 is still Mom & Pops Ry4 such good stuff.

I know Bill has reviews a few RY4 DIY Flavorings.

Has anyone a list to post of 'acceptable' RY4 DIY Flavorings?

Cool, I have only tried a handful of DIY RY4's and those were sent to me by Bill (I have not delved into DIY, not sure I am ready for that step). There are 2 that I really do like, The Perfumers Apprentice RY4 Double and Want 2 Vape DIY. TPA leans toward the Apollo / Tribeca flavor profile and W2V leans more toward the creamy/cake like custom profile. W2V reminds me a little of PV4 from Prime Vaping, only better. I like TPA a little better than Apollo as well. TPA and Tribeca are getting equal time in my rotation currently. Right now, my number 1 by far is RW Vapors retail RY4. This juice just keeps getting better with age, like a fine wine. I will vape RW for a while, then alternate TPA, back to RW, then Tribeca, back to RW, then Mountain Oak, then - well, you get the idea LOL.

passer,

All I can say is---you got close.

I went to the V4L site, put a 30ml bottle of Jammin at 24mg in my cart, and thought, "OK, 30% off $17.95 is $12.25. With $3 shipping, am I willing to spend $15.25 just to write a review? Oh sure, why not? It's for a good cause."

Imagine my shock when I got as far as shipping in the checkout process and discovered that V4L's cheapest shipping option is $6.95 for Priority Mail. No First Class shipping at all. SEVEN BUCKS??? That's $19.20 total for a bottle of juice that I'm going to vape one time and then probably never vape again (even if it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, I've already got more than 2 liters of RY4 languishing in my stash, 96% of which will likely expire unvaped from old age. Within another year or two, I'm going to have one heck of an RY4 graveyard/cemetery/archaeological dig).

Uh, no. [Delete one item from Cart. Your shopping cart is empty. Continue Shopping?]

Now, if anyone on the thread who vapes 24mg wants to go in halfsies with me and split the cost, I'm still game. Paypal me $10 with your name and address, and I'll order that 30ml bottle, divide it in two, then mail you your very own brand spanking new 15ml bottle of Jammin.

Bill, are you still looking for somebody to go halfers with? If so, I am game.

On Target,

Great! (I think... LOL.) I'll go ahead and order a 30ml/24mg bottle of Jammin from V4L. When it arrives, I'll divvy up the juice, get your package made up and into the mail, then I'll PM you. At that point you can send me ten bucks via Paypal. No need to do so before then. I have all your snail mail info.

I know Bill has reviews a few RY4 DIY Flavorings. Has anyone a list to post of 'acceptable' RY4 DIY Flavorings?

Cool,

Here are the reviews posted so far (from The Really Big RY4 List):

RY4 pre-mixed DIY flavoring concentrates
DIY RY4 Roundup---a short list (April 2012) - post #1492
TheFlavorApprentice RY4 Double flavoring concentrate - post #1145
TheFlavorApprentice RY4 Asian flavoring concentrate - post #1550
EcigExpress Tobacco Express Ruyan 4 flavoring super-concentrate post #2187
FlavourArt RY4 flavoring concentrate - post #2989

Here's my most current list, with thumbnail opinions:

1. (tie) RY4 Flavoring by Want2Vape (from XtremeVaping) - superb, well-balanced RY4
1. (tie) RY4 Double Flavoring by TPA/TFA - great flavor, caramel-rich custom RY4 flavor profile
3. RY4 Essence Flavoring by Hangsen - tastes exactly like Hangsen's retail RY4; if you like Hangsen RY4, you'll like this
4. RY4 Flavoring Essence by HealthCabin - like their house brand RY4; if you like that, you'll like this
5. RY4 Asian Flavoring by TPA/TFA - very good, classic RY4 flavor profile
6. Ruyan 5 Flavoring by Totally Wicked - nice flavor, interesting and subtle
7. Ruyan 4 Super-Concentrated Flavoring by Tobacco Express (from EcigExpress) - caramel-rich, almost no vanilla, odd tobacco
8. DV4 Flavoring by DecadentVapours - pretty good, extremely custom
9. RY4 Flavoring by FA (FlavourArt) - acceptable, but not particularly compelling to me
10. RY4 Super-Concentrated Flavoring by Tobacco Express (from EcigExpress) - so-so take on classic RY4, sweet
11. RY4 Flavoring from BlueMistVaping - not much like an RY4 but oddly interesting
12. DV3 Flavoring by DecadentVapours - no resemblance to RY4
13. RY4 Exclusive Flavoring by TPA/TFA - definitely sub-par
14. Re4nu Flavoring by VaporRenu - custom in a bad way
15. RY4 Type Flavoring by TPA/TFA - dreadful; floral and perfumy

My overall judgment:

#1 thru #6 are really quite good, although out of the six only Want2Vape RY4 is among the best retail RY4 eliquids.
#7 thru #12 are acceptable; I would call those six interesting experiments in DIY flavorings.
#13-15 are just plain lousy; I wouldn't ever vape them.

As always, the opinions and judgments in this post are mine alone. They are personal and subjective, and you might agree or disagree.

I'll bet there are more RY4 flavoring concentrates out there in the marketplace. I just haven't stumbled across them yet.

Love your command of the English language. Great reviews, Bill.

I've been lurking in this thread for quite a while, so decided to jump in at this point to second this this comment and add my thanks to Bill's wonderful reviews. I wish I had both the gift of taste and language as you do, sir.

I vape a variety of flavors, as my taste buds tend to get overwhelmed with a flavor easily. I put RY4s (and tobacco flavors in general, really) in lieu of more fruit-flavors vapes. However, recently I have went back to them for a change of flavor.

Vaping right now:

1) My last 30ml bottle of AlienVision's Raf-a-licious, which is quite well steeped at this point, at 24mg nic strength. Probably my all-time favorite RY4 variant so far, it is unfortunate that it is no longer available. My favorite aspects of this juice is the smokey-sweet quality, combined with just a hint of sourness, that is just wonderful.

2) Mountain Oak CountRY4, 18mg. This one has had to grow on me a bit, as the tobacco base is a bit "different" to me, but now I'm starting to enjoy it. To my (rather bad) taste buds, it has a spiciness to it... it mildly reminds me of the clove cigarettes I used to smoke back in the 1980's.

3) Hangsen RY4 (Madvapes), 18mg. When I first tried this 5+ months ago, it seemed to be a much sweeter vape than it is now and I really enjoyed it. Perhaps my analog-hosed taste buds changed since then (likely), or the recipe changed (unlikely), but it now has a drier flavor with a much milder caramel tone. I still enjoy it, and commonly use it to "reset" my taste buds when vaping sweeter liquids.

Hope this helps...

TW Ry4 is Hangsens I did not say Dekang. Those are two completely different Ry4 mixes. Hangsens is pretty close to FlavourArt but I find FA way better. I think FA has more of a caramel nut taste than the Hang. As much as I like these single flavorings none of them truly capture what I like in a RY4.

Not sure which Ry4 you tried from M&P because there is like 4 different ones. The one I liked was RYO4 and I know whats in it because I have the same flavorings to make it. My fav was BWB before they discontinued it.

Remember everyones taste is purely subjective. A lot of what Bill likes I can say I do not but thats preference. All we can do is share our thoughts and hope that someone benefits from it and makes a decisive decision using that info.

RY4 that tastes like cat pee always reminds me of Asian RY4 from TPA. The Super Concentrated RY4 sold by VZ and ECX IMO tastes nothing like a RY4 at all. I think its more of a hay, grassy and earthy tobacco more than anything.

This thread is one of my favorites because there is just so much input on this incredible flavor. Out of all the flavors we vape this one seems to catch everyones eye. Its fun to see what others taste apart from what I taste.

Endor,

Judging solely from your post, I think your taste buds are giving top-notch service. My buds/nose aren't nearly as educated or sensitive as my posting might lead one to assume (my writing is probably much more "flavorful" than my vaping, LOL), but I happen to agree with your flavor descriptions on all three of those mini-reviews.

As much as I like these single flavorings none of them truly capture what I like in a RY4.

Therein lies the mystery, the RY4 Rosetta Stone, the Gordian RY4 Knot. If juice-manufacturers and artisan juice-makers can create wonderful RY4s (which they clearly can, if only in a minority of retail RY4s), then why can't anyone seem to make a pre-mixed RY4 flavoring concentrate that's truly superlative? TFA's RY4 Double and W2V's RY4 concentrates are pretty darn good, so perhaps I'm expecting too much, but out of the rest of the pre-mixed RY4 flavorings I've tried, most are either meh or just plain swill. Maybe 20% winners is all we're going to get.

Not sure which Ry4 you tried from M&P because there is like 4 different ones. The one I liked was RYO4 and I know whats in it because I have the same flavorings to make it.

Our palates may disagree often, but we share the opinion that M&P RYO4 is a distinctive and noteworthy RY4. It also happens to be one of the few RY4s I can replicate in DIY, since I have the same super-concentrated Tobacco Extract (that's the actual name, not a generic term---it's a derivative of Tobacco Absolute) that M&P uses in their retail RYO4. Very dark stuff---deep and potent. While not in my Top 10, it's usually in my Top 20, which isn't bad out of more than 100.

The Super Concentrated RY4 sold by VZ and ECX IMO tastes nothing like a RY4 at all. I think its more of a hay, grassy and earthy tobacco more than anything.

I wouldn't say that the Tobacco Express Ruyan4 and RY4 concentrates taste nothing like an RY4---to me, they're the unemployed factory workers sitting way out in the left-field bleacher cheap seats drinking beer and eating greasy hot dogs rather than the ultra-rich stockholders sipping champagne and eating caviar in the premium boxes behind home plate, but at least they're still in the park watching the game.

I agree that the tobacco flavoring bases in those concentrates leave something to be desired for my palate. I'm not sure this is accurate, but I think it's that "Marlboro" juice flavor thing. I've never met a Marlboro eliquid that I liked (with the sole exception of Maxboro/Backo from BWB, which I've grown to enjoy over two years.) I see the terms "hay" and "grassy" a lot in posts about tobacco flavors that people don't like, and I certainly understand them as pejoratives. Maybe that's what I'm tasting. I don't know. All I can say for sure is that both Tobacco Express RY4 flavorings fall short for me because of the tobacco. By contrast, I love the NET tobaccos in VapeRite VR4 and W2V RY4. I wish they were more "toasted" rather than "fresh leaf," but they're still yummy to me.

Many RY4s use tobacco flavoring that to me is either middle-of-the-road or otherwise undistinguished. But---as I've written recently---they get away with that by not putting me off, since the presence of flavors I don't like is actually more important than the absence of amazingly good flavors. I guess that makes me something less than a gourmet of juices, but there it is. On the other hand, when the flavors are wonderful with nothing lousy to distract me, I'm in vape heaven immediately. Halo Tribeca is a perfect example. After steeping long enough for the bug spray/disinfectant Halo base to finally vanish, the actual RY4 flavorings shine through beautifully. It just takes six months, LOL.

Interesting thread. I am new at all this but kinda fell in love with the description of RY4 when I was researching ecigs 3 weeks ago. I tried 1 at a B&B store didn't pop my cork but it was my very first day. recently I got a sample pack from W2V and I do like their RY4. I think that a RY4 may be that WOW factor flavor that I am looking for right now. I want to take a slow read through this thread and see what comes of it.

If you guys are into the DIY I recommend the vaping zone RY4 super concentrate. It's good by itself if you let it steep enough but I like to add a spot more of either caramel or vanilla depending on my taste at the time. I recently ordered the want2vape flavoring and a 30ml bottle of primevaping's PV4 that I am allowing to steep. Can't wait
