specs: The 10ml bottle of RY4 I purchased from TimelessVapor contains a nearly transparent golden-colored liquid at 16mg nic strength in 70/30 PG/VG base blend. The label includes nic level, base ratio, expiration month/year, and manufacturing lot number. That’s good and would be better if the label were well-designed. With a yellow font against the background of a multi-colored graphic scene, the print is very hard to read. Note to TimelessVapor: Your label has good info; could you make it more user-friendly, please? Although my bottle of juice was created in August 2012, I let it steep for five days anyway. Testing was done using a Boge 2.5 ohm carto powered by a variable-wattage Vamo APV set to 9 watts RMS.
TimelessVapor is a relatively new juice-only vendor who liquids are (in their words) “custom made for you.” I’m not entirely sure how to interpret that, since my bottle was apparently made five months before I purchased it. I’m going to assume that TimelessVapor’s juices are not literally made-to-order and that they’re invoking poetic license with their tag line. The description of RY4 on the TimelessVapor product page states:
“A smooth tobacco mixed with vanilla and caramel.”
Simple. To the point. And accurate.
TimelessVapor RY4 is midway between the classic and custom profiles. As with many custom RY4s, caramel is the dominant flavor element. Not that the tobacco and vanilla are missing in any way, but they are quiet and smooth, content to remain in the background while caramel takes the lead. If the caramel were a little less up front, TimelessVapor RY4 would lean more toward the classic wing, since the juice has the characteristic classic brightness. As it is, with caramel in the lead, I’d probably consider this a custom RY4.
As a result, this RY4 will live or die for us based on how we feel about that leading caramel. Is this a chewy candy caramel or a gooey ice cream topping? Is the caramel deep? rich and buttery? sweet? Well, sort of. It's definitely the chewy variety, and yes, there is some depth, some richness, and some sweetness. Not powerfully so---this is not a dessert RY4, and it's not buttery---nor does it cause me think,
“Holy Cow!” Instead, what my brain tells me when vaping TimelessVapor RY4 is
“Hmmm. Interesting caramel. A bit unusual.” Not odd, just different. I think that may be due to the way the tobacco flavor (and perhaps the vanilla as well) interacts with the caramel, but I’m not sure, because the tobacco is---as TimelessVapor’s description states---smooth, and the vanilla is in wrap-around mode rather than clearly defined in taste.
Or the unusual flavor may be the result of the mix of caramels used here. Professional juicemakers often use more than one flavoring source to make up a core component. For instance, the core components of RY4 are tobacco, caramel, and vanilla, but a juicemaker might mix five or six different caramel flavorings to come up with the caramel core. That could be a factor with TimelessVapor RY4 and account for the "different-ness" I taste in the caramel. I have no way of knowing for sure. Maybe it's me more than the juice itself, but I can only report what I experience.
Anyway, the overall flavor does strike me as slightly unusual, enough so to keep TimelessVapor RY4 out of the top rank of best RY4s in the world, but not so much as to mire it with the losers and also-rans. I’ll put it in the “B” group, where lots of other good, solid RY4s can keep it company.
