What do you know? Turns out that Totally Wicked sent me the right juice after all! On the bottom of the bottle was a tiny little sticker that read:
RY4 18mg. Why that sticker was on the
bottom rather than affixed to the label on the
side of the bottle, I dont know, but thats where it was. I'm not upset about it, and I do feel a little foolish for not looking there before emailing Totally Wicked with the erroneous assumption that they sent me the wrong juice. But all's well that ends well. So, let's get right to the review:
Specs: The 30ml bottle of RY4 I purchased from TotallyWicked is from their Patriot Range of made-in-USA juices. The liquids color is a very pale yellowish transparency at 18mg nic in an unspecified base blend that feels like 70/30. Testing was done using a 3.0 ohm Smoktech carto (it was a 1.5 ohm dual coil, but I snipped one of the coil leads) on a variable-power Vamo set to 9.0 watts.
I dont know if the ingredients for this RY4 are from the USA, or if the juice is just made in the U.S. with Chinese source ingredients, but
everything about it screams "Chinese RY4." From the color, through the way it vapes, to the flavor profile, this is a Classic Chinese RY4 all the way. Its bright and well-blended, with no single flavor element standing out. Interestingly, TW Patriot RY4 has the Dekang flavor profile, but with some of the Janty sweet-sour counterbalance. Like most classic RY4s, it has no nuttiness at all. To me, this tastes like the traditional core flavors of RY4: tobacco, caramel, and vanilla, with nothing else added to distract from that mix.
I have to admit that expected this juice to be sweeter, having somehow formed that impression from passerbyeus posts (its one of passers favorite RY4s and pretty much the reason I bought it for review
). And yes, of course, there
is some sweetness. This is, after all, an RY4, so its a sweet juice by definition. But its not
overly sweet, nor even
especially sweet, at least to my palate. I wouldnt consider it anywhere close to a dessert-type RY4. That goes with its strongly Chinese lineage.
What do I think of it? As a classic RY4, its
dynamite! If thats your taste, then by all means get some of this. On the other hand, if you love custom RY4s, with their more distinct and often jacked-up flavors, forget it. This juice is classic RY4 all the way, and very good at it. Id go so far as to say that Totally Wicked Patriot Range RY4 gives Janty and Dekang a run for their money as one of the best classic RY4s ever made. (Not that its better than the best of the custom RY4s---its just different.
I really dont have any criticisms of this juice. If I were inclined to be especially nit-picky, Id say that its not one of the more complex RY4s Ive ever vaped. No multiple layers of flavor or uniquely creative juxtapositions. But thats OK, since RY4s aren't and don't need to be inherently complex or overly-subtle juices. I'm also curious as to how this RY4 would change with a little nuttiness added---one never knows how altered juices will turn out---but I've got 30mls, so I can do that Frankenjuice experiment on my own. No problem. Plus, it's perfectly delicious as it is now.
Im notoriously long-winded in my reviews, but I think I've written enough for this one: If you love RY4s, do yourself a favor and buy a bottle.
