As Keeper of
The Big RY4 Lists, Ive been---how shall I say?---less than
thrilled with the distribution of the 144 RY4s (which includes a couple RY1s, RY2s, and RY3s) that currently appear on
The Big RY4 Report Card.
The problem---as I see it---is that too many RY4s are in the five upper grades (
A, A-, B+, B, and
B-). As of the last update,
94 of the 144 RY4s on The RY4 Report Card were clustered in those higher grades. Only
50 RY4s were in the seven lower-graded groups (
C+, C, C-, D+, D, D-, and
F). Responsibility for this lop-sidedness falls squarely on my shoulders, since Im the person giving the grades.
On the one hand, we might conclude that this is a good thing, that we are blessed to have so many higher-graded and presumably better-quality RY4s from which to choose. On the other hand, perhaps the skewed distribution curve is a disservice to vapers and reflects my own inability to grade on the curve.
Ive thought about this for some time, and Ive decided to re-shuffle the grades to achieve a more even distribution. What this means, essentially, is that Im moving a significant number of RY4s down a half-step, to a lower grade than theyve been getting in past updates of The Big List. In a perfect world, a grade of
C should indicate that a particular RY4 is
average---not
bad, but instead
firmly in the middle of the RY4 pack---and thats what Im trying to achieve with the re-assessment.
Ordinarily, Id wait until the next two-month update of The Big RY4 List in late December to post the new grades in The RY4 Report Card. Since Im talking about these new grades today, however, Ill publish the reformulated Report Card today, in the next post.
Keep in mind that none of the RY4s has changed. The juices are all the same. The only difference is that the distribution curve of grades isnt as skewed toward the top as it had been previously. Now its a more normal bell curve, with a bulge in the middle and tapering ends. The
A and
A- groups still contain substantially more RY4s (25) than the bottom
D+, D, D-, and
F groups (12), but that's because it's much easier on my psyche to judge an RY4 as superb than it is to judge one as crap.
