I've been vaping coils for a few weeks and it's been pretty awesome. Like I said before I have been vaping eliquids that are high in PG content because of the flavor factor. Just so I'm clear on what you're saying, you're telling me that I'm going to get the same kind of flavor or better using VG liquids now that I'm using more power and RDAs? Thanks for all of your help.

I've tried my fair share of RY4 as it is my favorite flavor, and I was vaping back in the day when the original Ruyan 4 flavor still existed. I would argue that Halo's Tribeca is exactly in that vein of RY4 and even upstages it. Since then, I've been looking for a RY4 with that same flavor profile (more energetic finish... almost citrus/pine at the end) yet a bit smaller hit on the wallet than Halo's juices. I might give ITC a go as people seem to like their RY4 and its easily within the price category of "why not"?

Having said that, I have to stalk BWB to try and get Don's RY4. I doubt it will be anything like the flavor I'm looking for, but if its anything as good as his other juices, I'm sure I'll just be pleasantly surprised.

As you may know (or perhaps not), BWB RY4 was discontinued in 2012. Don't hold your breath waiting for it to be available ever again.

This question has been asked on the thread about two or three times each year since BWB RY4 was discontinued in 2012, so you can take solace in the knowledge that others also mourn the demise of BWB RY4. I will offer the same response I posted each time the question was asked before, plus a bit more:

NO. BWB RY4 had a unique flavor profile. No other RY4 is remotely like it. In fact, BWB RY4 was so unique that it barely qualified as an RY4 at all. Back when I started this thread in June 2011, I didn't make fine distinctions about what constituted an RY4. As the thread developed, I had to invent all that---Classic versus Custom emerged as the most two most obvious genres. Early on, though, if a retail liquid was named RY4 or had a "4" in the name---like VapeRite VR4 and VaporStation VS4---I added it to The Big List of RY4s, and I even included some juices that weren't called RY4---VaporTalk Dulcis, AVE Raf-a-licious, Halo Tribeca, etc.

The one bonafide RY4 I've had (and have) that is most similar (which really means not very similar, but closer than any other) is the Janty RY4 from 2010 that used a special pine seed flavoring. The formula for that RY4 was changed by Janty at the end of 2010, and the pine seed flavoring was ditched in favor of the less eccentric profile of what would become Janty Classic RY4. [I thank ECF member and RY4 thread participant KentC for sending me from his carefully-conserved stash a small sample of Janty's 2009 RY4 and a 30ml bottle of the Janty 2010 RY4 with pine seed flavor.]

Curiously, we might speculate that the Janty 2010 RY4 may have been the jumping off point for Don to formulate his RY4 at BWB, since Janty's RY4 was being marketed when Don first began BackwoodsBrew, and both contain a pine flavor component. BWB RY4 used a more classic pine flavor (think pine cone), however, which tasted different than the pine seed flavor that Janty used.

Anyway, the upshot is that nothing currently available resembles BWB RY4. I still have 10ml of real-deal BWB RY4, so if you show up at my doorstep, I'll let you vape some of that for five minutes or so. Otherwise, unless you happen to find some offered on the Classifieds---odds of which are very slim or none---you're out of luck.

Wonder if Don found out that some of that flavoring might not be too good for people to vape? Or maybe hard to source? Some of the more exotic flavorings were impossible to obtain in sufficient quantity to keep stocked. Demand for BWB RY4 kept growing, so Don eventually bagged it as too much trouble, since the pressure from customers, with all its attendant hassles, was making him unhappy.

Well thank you Bill, for that very detailed, and somewhat lengthy response.
I'm not necessarily looking for an RY4, however. Just some other juice that might be just as satisfying. It has got to be the pine because I had another juice at one time that had a piney essence to it and I like it a lot too. I can't get that one either now, though. Grrr.

What I have is about 200 RY4s, including DIYs. Wait, I just gave away about 40 of them, so I must have about 160 left. If I had just 10 RY4s, I can assure you that my small stash of BWB RY4 would be long gone. As it is, I treat it about the same way a connoisseur might regard a 50-year-old bottle of single-malt Scotch. I stretch it out, vaping only a little bit every so often.

The Big RY4 Report Card

The grades given for these retail RY4s are my opinion only. They are also current judgments and may differ from grades I gave in the past. So please understand that if you base a buying decision solely on this list, you might end up getting an RY4 that I like rather than one you’ll like, since my tastes and palate are unlikely to match yours perfectly---in some cases, not even remotely. Conversely, you may like an RY4 to which I gave a low grade.

Within each grade, the RY4s are listed in alphabetical order. This kind of judging is ridiculous enough without splitting hairs or nit-picking between RY4s within the same grade. I have, however, subdivided each grade into Classic and Custom, to allow easier comparison of apples to apples and oranges to oranges.

Mixing Percentages
The key to making good DIY RY4 from Pre-Mixed RY4 flavorings and concentrates is knowing how much (or rather, how little) flavoring to use. Flavorings require a higher percentage; concentrates work at lower percentages. Use too much of either and you will ruin the juice. I cannot stress this strongly enough. Start out mixing lean. Then---if necessary---add more flavoring very sparingly. Test-vape after each small addition of flavor. Keep in mind that the flavors will “bloom” with steeping---a DIY RY4 that seems to lack flavor when new may magically mature into full-flavor after two weeks, so exercise both patience and restraint.

When making a small bottle of DIY RY4 (6mls or less) using a very concentrated flavoring, adding even two drops to an existing mix can be enough to wreck the flavor profile. Increase the flavoring only one drop at a time. Remember: Less is best, and more is not necessarily better. Err on the side of using too little flavoring rather than too much! Below are my recommended percentages for different brands of RY4 flavorings:

Over the past year and a half, FlavourArt and Hangsen Essence had fought it out for me as the Best Classic RY4 all-in-one DIY flavorings. Inawera RY-4 has come along to challenge them both. Inawera isn’t as tasty as FA or HS in my judgment, and is nosed out for third place by HealthCabin RY4. Inawera is noteworthy for being nearly colorless---the liquid is clear and transparent. Every other DIY RY4 flavoring I know is colored, from light gold or amber to dark brown. Inawera is closer to FlavourArt in being more savory than Hangsen, which is the sweetest of the three.

Based on overwhelming popularity, TFA RY4 Double wins the best Custom RY4 all-in-one DIY flavoring. RY4 Double’s flavor profile is not my personal favorite, however. I prefer the nuttiness of FlavourArtUK Nutzilla, the spicy kick of AzureVaping RY4.5 or the natural tobacco flavoring of Want2Vape RY4. Nonetheless, TFA RY4 Double gets the blue ribbon because so many people like it, and numerous vendors use it in their own RY4 formulations.

I haven’t had this one myself yet, but Passerbyeus says that it’s the best RY4 Flavoring he’s had. I’ve put it in the ‘A’ rated group based on his recommendation.

Here's ITCVapes' description of their "old" or "original" RY4, which I reviewed, is on The Big List, but also now listed in the Discontinued section:

“A rich, sweet, creamy, buttery smooth tobacco with nutty undertones that just might magically disappear before you expect it. Handcrafted in and shipped from MD, USA in glass dropper bottles.”​

Here's their description of RY4 Silver (Gold is the same, but with less tobacco flavoring for a sweeter, dessert-style RY4):

"Silver is a custom RY4 that tastes like vanilla tobacco coated with caramel. Our secret ry4 blend is an ooey gooey creamy caramel with a hint of vanilla. The tobacco is a smooth, slightly creamy, nutty, and tangy Turkish blend. The tobacco and sweet caramel components are balanced pretty evenly making silver a great choice..."​

Although the descriptions differ, I'm inclined to speculate that ITCVapes' old RY4 might be the same as RY4 Silver. I haven't contacted ITC to ask, so that may be incorrect. I'm using the "if it works, don't fix it" logic. The old ITCVapes RY4 gets a B+ grade from me and tastes like it uses a Turkish synthetic tobacco flavoring. But maybe ITC ramped up the "creamy caramel" for their newer Silver version. I don't know. Having just vaped some of ITCVapes' old RY4, I don't find it particularly rich. Nicely balanced for a Custom, but not "ooey gooey creamy caramel." For that, I think of CloudsOfVapor COV4 or VapeRite VR4. So, perhaps ITC changed the recipe or the ingredients to make the caramel richer.

To get an authoritative answer from the thread, whoever chimes in will need to have vaped all three versions and be able to write about how they're similar and/or different. Or you could buy both the Silver and Gold RY4s and post about them yourself. LOL.

I have all three. The original,GRY4 and SRY4 neither of the new ones are even close to the original. Wish they were.

The RY4s can be a little sweet day in and day out, what would you recommend for a straight tobacco vape. Synthetic or NET, and anything but a pipe tobacco is what I am looking for. I'm not opposed to DIY. Any input is greatly appreciated

The marketplace for tobacco vapes is humongous. Thousands of choices. I vape mostly home-extracted natural tobaccos at this point, but those aren't available to you. Home extracting is easy and inexpensive. You might look over any of the various home extraction threads here on ECF:

Of all the synthetic-flavored tobacco blend retail juices, I vape only two: AVE Boba's Bounty and Ahlusion Caramel Wild Wood. Both are hybrids and not particularly tobacco-dominant. Boba's is a famous mystery juice, and CWW is a lovely caramel with a mild tobacco base.

For straight tobacco vapes, synthetics will never cut it. Juices made from natural tobacco extracts are the only way to go---the real thing. For retail natural tobaccos (both pre-made juices and DIY extracts), check out Naturally-Extracted-Tobacco. Clay makes some really good macerated extracts:
