Our colleague Jerms was kind enough to send me a one-dram sample bottle of R-YLD-4 from VapingXtreme. It’s 16mg nic, 70/30 pg/vg. I couldn’t see the color in the brown bottle, and the scent was very mild. I tested it by dripping into a standard joyetech 510 atty powered by a VAMO set to 7.5 watts RMS.

Maybe I’m just getting old, but RY4s need to stand out these days (either because they’re brilliant or dreadful) for me to take much notice of them.

Hangdude said it very succinctly in his mini-review (post #4532):

“My take on Xtremejuice R-YLD-4 from vaping Xtreme is much like the others' take on it. It is a Classic RY4.

R-YLD-4 is a sweetened tobacco. It does not scream caramel or vanilla. It is very similar to Apollo in this, and also in the very clear color of both. The tobacco in R-YLD-4 is more of a pipe style tobacco, though. The tobacco isn't strong, just more of a pipe flavor.

In fact, there is nothing strong about this version of RY4. A very mild sweetened tobacco, as if I mixed up some RY4D at 3%. Maybe a week or two will add some more flavor.

There is nothing wrong with R-YLD-4. It is nice and clean tasting, I just wish it had more flavor.”

Yes, I concur. R-YLD-4 is a pleasant juice that makes no dreadful errors but ends up playing it too safe to be noteworthy. I give it a B-.

This part was my post on The Natural Tobacco Thread regarding Mountain Oak Vapor Full Virginia Flake RY4; I've been vaping Mountain Oak Vapors Full Virginia Flake RY$ 70/30 @18mg Nic, DOB 4/08, it's a medium tobacco with Carmel & Vanilla just behind the Tobacco flavor. I don't get a desert type or overly sweet vape with this liquid, the Tobacco is upfront and I'm enjoying it very much in a Kanger T3 @ ~3.7-3.9 Volts. BTW this was my first NET based RY4.

I've not vaped any NET-based RY4s that come close to qualifying as "dessert-type" liquids. While generally tobacco-rich, they don't seem to emphasize the sweet side much at all. Many assertively sweet tobacco blend juices are available in the marketplace, but no retail juicemaker I'm aware of has yet done that with an NET-based RY4. MOV is probably the best example of this restraint. Sweetness is so downplayed in Full Virginia Flake RY4 that its flavor profile is almost savory to my palate.

I notice that NET-based RY4s head off in two different but related directions. They're obviously radical in moving away from the mild and neutral synthetic tobacco flavorings used in Classic and even most Custom RY4s, providing instead the more intense, natural tobacco flavor of NETs. On the other hand, NET-based RY4s tend as a group to embrace the conservative approach of using only the flavoring trinity of tobacco, caramel, and vanilla, usually without additional or substitute flavorings. (Ahlusion Gold Rising would qualify as an exception, but we've already agreed that it's outside the boundaries of RY4, at least as defined on this thread.)

Between Classic/Traditional/Chinese RY4s and Custom/Modern/Western RY4s, NET-based RY4s might almost be considered a sub-genre unto themselves, although they definitely grow out of the Custom RY4 phenomenon.

Vaping some RY4 Frenchy from passerbyeus. This is a really, really good approximation of Janty DK! I'm loving it so far. I don't think the bottle will make it through the day. Well done sir!

RPad, its really good isn't it? I enjoyed the first bottle Passer sent me that I had to order a 30 ml bottle and its about half gone already. I actually like the Frenchy better than Janty DK. The French vanilla flavoring adds a little to the mix IMO.

Totally. I'm not sure if I like it better than Janty DK, simply because I've had several dozen milliliters of that and only two milliliters of this (and counting). It's definitely very enjoyable.

My passerbyeus RY4 Frenchy is no more. As a huge fan of Janty DK RY4 I really, really enjoyed RY4 Frenchy and would buy the hell out of it if it were commercially available. Again, well done sir!

RY4 Frenchy is a wonderful vape and has been in my daily rotation for weeks now. I have not touched my Janty DK RY4 in over a month!

Halo is having a 20% off sale all week. Link: E-liquid | Electronic Cigarette | E Cig Liquid | Halo Cigs use coupon code "LABORDAZE". And although Backwoods Brew no longer has an RY4, they are having a 15% off sale for 12 hours only, beginning tomorrow morning. Their recent newsletter states they have several new juices in the works and hope to release at least one in the near future. Maybe a re-formulated RY4?

Recently got in my possession for RY4s: Janty 2009-2010 (pine addition) in both bottled form and a pack of 801 cartridges, BWB's discontinued RY4, RevolutionVapor's RY4, Highbrow's Highbrowbacco RY4, and VaporStation's VS4. Looking forward to reporting on all of them, though I want to get through a chunk of my current rotation before that.

Currently enjoying Apollo's RY4 and VapingXtreme's R-YLD-4. Surprisingly, VX's has been more appealing to me. While initially a little blasé, it's turned out to click very well with me.

Vaping my Apollo RY4 freebie from the recent promotion. It's very, very good. In some ways, it reminds me of Janty Classic RY4 with a slight balance shift. The tobacco flavor is similar, but the Apollo (e-liquid, not Creed) has a more pronounced vanilla flavor and is slightly sweeter overall. I would buy this juice.

Apollo reminds me a lot of the old dekang Ruyan #4 from heaven gifts, health cabin, eastmall from around 2009. Well balanced.... calm tobacco.... vapor smells like cotton candy but it vapes differently. The smell was the true giveaway. DW vaped it early on while I stuck with the Janty RY4 stuff.
