The bottle of Ginger's RY4 I purchased from The Vapor Room for this review is a 50/50 PG/VG blend, mixed at 24mg nic strength, and ordered with extra flavor. The juice is custom mixed from all U.S.-sourced ingredients and made-fresh-to-order by The Vapor Room. The liquid itself is a pale gold in color. It was tested by filling a 1.7 ohm Resurrector XL carto, which I vaped at 4.0 volts (providing 9.4 watts of power).
Recently, I've noticed a change in my approach to RY4 reviews. Because we have so many RY4s on the list now---this review makes 37 total---I find that I no longer assess each RY4 purely on its own merits, but more by comparison to its competitors. With so many tasty RY4s available---in my honest opinion, most of the 37 are really quite good, perhaps 5-10 are superlative, and only a few are lousy---I now find myself less concerned with the individual qualities and flavor profile of a given juice than with the question: How much do I like this particular RY4 in comparison to other RY4s on the list?
In my regular vaping day-to-day, I'm a cartomizer guy. My two favorite cartos are SmokTech 1.5 ohm Mega XL dual coils (I started with the metal ones when they came out and now use the clears) and the new Resurrector 1.7 ohm single coil XLs (made by SLB, I think), but I also like Boges, both standard 2.8-3.0 ohm and LR 2.0 ohm. I do keep a sizable stock of 510 and 306 atomizers of various ohm ratings on hand for dripping when new juices come in the mail or, up until now, when I was testing an RY4 for review.
As I have begun comparing RY4s head-to-head, I find atty dripping awkward and time-consuming, so I'm switching to cartos for review. I keep 13 PVs at my desk carto-loaded with my favorite daily juices, plus another 40-or-so cartos filled with other juices on standby (along with 50 small 4.5ml glass dropper bottles containing all the different juices just for topping up). Over the last month, I've added a second container of cartos dedicated exclusively to RY4s, gradually adding more of the RY4s from the list, about 25 so far. That way, when I want to compare RY4s, I can take four or five PVs and slap on different RY4 cartos for quick-and-easy comparison vaping. It helps my taste clarity immensely to be able to take a toke on one RY4, then immediately pick up another PV and take a toke on a different RY4.
OK. Back to Ginger's RY4. This juice is very flavorful (and should be, since I ordered it with extra flavor). I like it. But so what? I like most RY4s. What distinguishes Ginger's RY4 from others on the list, for better or for worse? Well, this RY4 has a dominant and forward but very pleasing tobacco element, with a unique smokiness that surrounds the entire flavor profile. The tobacco flavor is very clean, with no synthetic or chemical off-tastes and no ashiness.
The caramel and vanilla remain in the background on both inhale and exhale, making themselves most present after the exhale. While the flavor still lingers on the palate, the tobacco fades away and the caramel/vanilla remains, in effect stepping up to be noticed more between tokes than during. In terms of percentages, I'd say that Ginger's RY4 is 70% tobacco, with the other 30% being blended caramel-vanilla (I can't separate the flavors individually). There is no nuttiness at all.
I don't consider this an analog replacement, but then I don't think any vaping juice replicates the experience of smoking real tobacco. Tobacco juice lovers should take note, however---this RY4 might be right up your alley, because it appeals in the same way that smoking once did for many of us, with good throat hit and vapor production (befitting 24mg nic and a 50/50 blend). Ginger's RY4 is definitely not a sweet dessert-vape, but for those looking for a substantial tobacco experience, this should satisfy very well.
All in all, Ginger's is an unusual RY4. The closest other juice on the Big List is probably Vixen Vapors RY4. Not that those two are twins---Ginger's is more tobacco-dominant, and VV has no smokiness. But they do lean somewhat in the same direction. Ginger's also benefits from its slight emulation of Ikenvape RY4 Gold, but the resemblance isn't close enough to elevate it much in the rankings.
For me, Ginger's RY4 is another good RY4, although not quite superlative, landing right in the middle of the pack at #18.
