GRUENE VAPOR
RY4

*6mg nic, pg/vg unknown, on a 3.7 Inferno (ego), xxl Smoktech carto, steeped 5 days

Color-Golden brown

Smell-like caramel

Vapor-ok

Throat hit- smooth (its only 6mg)

Subtle, med. flavor, strong-Subtle to medium

Non sweet, slightly sweet, sweet, very sweet-very slightly sweet

Clean (free from perfuminess/chemical taste/soapiness)-
Yes clean

MY EXPERIENCE &OPINION YMMV

I stumbled upon Gruene Vapor by accident in search of a holiday blend by a vendor I had forgotten the name of. So I got their holiday blend, and RY4 because-well I've never heard of them. Now that's exciting!

Toasty, light, creamy, nutty, almost marshmallowy are the words which first popped into my mind. While that really makes no sense... I am no Bill Herbst just a fan of RY4 here to share.

It is what's come to be known as a "custom blend." Very non-traditional to say the least. Compared side by side they are as close as the moon to the Earth.

If you expect traditional you will be very perplexed lol The tobacco is hard to find and has an afterbite of something spooky-could be the type of caramel used or maybe its a slightly woodsy tobacco.

If you made an ultra light version of bwb ry4 minus the ashy taste and sweetness but added some unsweetened creme you would have a little idea what this is like. Desserty without the sweet.

Now take all that and realize its hard to describe a damn taste ok!

It is different, but do I like it? Ya I really do. I swear I went through the 3mls in like an hour. I would call it odd, not in a bad way but in a unique way. Now Im onto the holiday blend and already thinking about getting a bunch of samples!

3mls is $2.50, 30mls are $18.00 with free shipping and no minimum order!
MADE IN THE USA BABY!

You heard it here first on the roundup!

lannister,

I vape all day---constantly---but I'm not an "all-day-vape" kind of guy when it comes to juices. I'm a bumblebee who flits from flower to flower. I don't ever vape one juice for more than five minutes before switching to another. I have 35 PVs on my desk, each with a labeled carto or tank loaded with a different juice (except for my bottom-feeders, on which I use atties), plus another hundred-or-so juices also in labeled cartos waiting on deck in cartridge ammo boxes that are on the desk within arm's reach. That group includes 50 RY4s in cartos used for comparison testing with new RY4s I'm reviewing. Any non-RY4 juice in a carto also has its own little 3ml plastic dripper bottle or 1-dram dropper bottle for topping up; these sit in other containers on the desk.

Membership in the "desk juice club" changes daily. Some juices that don't make the cut after a week or (meaning that they turn out not to please me enough to get vaped get relegated back to the big juice cabinets, while other new juices replace them and get trial memberships.

Below are 30-or-so of my personal fave staples, most of which have proven their staying power for me over time (in category groups, but not in any particular order individually):

Tobacco Blends:
Boba's Bounty from alienvisions
Bounty Hunter from nitelitevapor
NLV Gold, also from nitelitevapor
Kentucky Premium - vermillionriver
Kentucky Vanilla - vermillionriver
Classic Blend - vermillionriver
Vita Bella - goodejuice (to which I add vanilla)
Managua - want2vape
Natural Perique Tobacco - goodejuice
Bob's Krave Kutter - altcig
Tobacco Love - altcig
RYO - mom&popvapingshop
Jane's Toasted Toffee Kick Juice - ecsi
Black and Tan - cloudsofvapor
Rich Roasted Velvet Tobacco - gourmetvapor
Special Blend - mrvapes (on trial)

Coffees:
Kona Coffee Milkshake - virginvapor
Kona Latte - sweet-vapes
Coffee - coppercreek
Dark Roast - mrvapes
Espresso - backwoodsbrew
(plus another 15 or so that come and go)

Fruits and Desserts:
French Apple Tart - decadentvapours
Limoncello - highbrowvapor (on trial)
Gooey Butter Cake - both vapealicious and altcig
Strawberry - primevaping
Strawberry Cheese Cake - primevaping
Orange de Sangre - highbrowvapor (also on trial)
Ecoberry - want2vape
Crème Brûlée - want2vape

Plus another 30-or-so DIY homemade juices.

My current #1 favorite juice is NLV Gold.

Now, with all that information and $3.50, you can buy a cappuccino. LOL.

Bill I see Mr. Vapes Special Blend on your list. Would you care to share your thoughts about it? I've been thinking about ordering this juice for a while now but wasn't sure. It makes me feel a lot better about ordering it now since I see it's on your favorites list.

jteezy,

To me, MrVapes Special Blend Tobacco is a relatively straight-ahead blend, without a lot of the sweeter flavors typically added to tobacco blends. I like it for the quality of being an essential tobacco with subtle, natural sweetness, rather than a candied one. Not that I don't like sweeter tobacco blends---you can see from my list that I do. But I appreciate tobacco juices that walk the line between straight-ashtray-analog and dessert vapes, but lean over a bit more into the tobacco side of that line.

I can't tell you what tobacco-flavor varieties are in MrV Special Blend (you know, like Turkish, Burley, Virginian, etc.) because my palate is not that knowledgeable about tobacco varieties when they're blended. I can tell you that I like this blend. Over time, I'm getting better at distinguishing individual varieties, but the blends still throw me. It's not cigar or pipe-like, nor is it artificial or synthetic tasting (although I can't say for sure that it's made with natural tobacco extract, because I don't remember---from the color of the liquid, I'd guess that it has at least a little Tobacco Absolute in it, but not too much). The focus of the flavor profile is on the mid-range, avoiding both the deep and dark low end and the overly bright high end. It's pleasingly crisp, but not sharp.

Even though it may not become an everyday vape for me, whenever my palate needs a respite from the sweeter tobacco juices (Bounty Hunter, Vermillion River, etc.), MrVapes Special Blend is the kind of juice I want to have around to turn to. Not a huge amount of "wow" factor, but pleasantly satisfying. I'd put it in the same category as Bob's Krave Kutter from AltCig.

jteezy,

Lord, I hope you didn't see my first response. I thought you were asking about MrVapes RY4. There I go, not paying attention again. I fear you saw that one while I was editing it. Anyway, please forgive me and erase that dumb post from your mind if possible. The edited one is what you asked for.

Hi, everyone,

Wow, this is a long thread... :) I decided to join the quest, so to speak.

Tried my first RY4 three years ago, with my first vaping attempt. Dekang, it was. Liked it back then. About a year ago, I tried that same juice, and didn't like it so much anymore. It tasted, oh, I don't know... Sharp-ish?..

Now I started perusing this thread, and got very intrigued. You guys are almost religious about this. :D I would have tried BWB's, but it's not around anymore. And I was ordering some tobacco juices from MOV, so I got their RY4 while I was at it.

So - I just want a reality check. I am tasting something piney, something burnt (caramel combined with their tobacco base?) that almost tastes like coffee (!), with a *very* slight aftertaste of vanilla and caramel on the exhale. There is a hint of tobacco, but it's much milder than the base they use of their other tobaccos, like Blue Ridge or Just Peachy - must be Smooth and Mild rather than Tennessee Cured. Are my taste buds nuts, or what?.. Pine and coffee?..

It doesn't taste anything like the Dekang one, but after reading some of this thread, I sort of expected that. I don't know if I like this juice or not - it's a little weird... I normally like unusual blends that don't taste like anything else, but this is a bit out there. :D That said, I am two thirds down my Stardust with it, trying to decide if I like it or not - I guess I don't *hate* it!

well glad you came to join the RY4 hunt, being my love hate for MOV RY4 my feelings are the same with the pine and yes coffee, also I get hints of cinnamon at times, is this a so called classic RY4 it does make you wounder, the makers swear that its only caramel and vanilla in there so this all could be a reaction from the tobacco base or just the whole package, I have given up on this mystery and just accepted it for its complex attire and considering the other crap that is out there I love the stuff....

Oh, great, I thought I was losing it. LOL I adjusted the voltage down a tad, and now it's not burnt coffee, it's just nice coffee. And pine. And I decided I like it - especially in the morning. Haven't noticed any cinnamon yet. Oh... wait... yes, definitely taste a hint of it now, like a small pinch of cinnamon in strong coffee. Wow. It really is very complex - the taste keeps drifting here and there. Fascinating. Just refilled my Stardust. This stuff is strangely addicting.

Bill, hey thanks for the list! While all are tastes are somewhat different, it's nice to see a list like that with some juices that we share in common.

Gives me a more in the ballpark area to shoot my money arrows, verses closing my eyes and firing blindly backwards into the dark void....although if I hit a cat I would be ok with that lol

Not sure if Vaper4Life RY4 has been touched on so Ill give my :2c:..... V4L was the second vendor I used when I started vaping, I liked the thought of prefilled cartos at the time but with the shipping prices and not giving me the vapor production I liked I moved on ..but I did like the RY4, it has a great classic nutty desert taste to it but as with all V4L juice it has that signature taste to it not sure what the heck it is but it burns me out fast. Anyways It is not horrible or great.

Well, that makes sense. OgreDOG doesn't like cats. LOL.

After a (very brief) false start with V2, I began the whole vaping thing with Vapor4Life. :) I pretty much agree with you about their RY4 (which is definitely an "effervescent" Chinese classic) now; but when I was a brand-new vaper and my taste buds were pretty dead, I thought that RY4 was the highway to Heaven! :D I loved it sooooo much back then, and I credit that juice in particular for seducing me away from my beloved (yes, beloved) Camel Turkish Silver! :)

I have plenty of IKV RY4 as well but I haven't tried IKV-Gold.
Katdarling what does it taste like.

I thought IKV gold and IKV RY4 was the same?

And yes, Ikenvape's RY4 has always been named IKV RY4 Gold.

Whew! I just rushed an email to Isaac to find out if I was crazy and if there were indeed two IKV RY4s! Glad you cleared this up, Bill.

I still love Twilite in the evenings, and find it goes very well with Adult Beverages. :toast:

As for NLV's Gold: Welcome to the club. I'm already pimping it as the ECF 2012 Juice of the Year!

You and me both, Golden Girl! ;) And it also plays QUITE nicely with adult beverages. LOL!

Ack. Wish that was the case with me. I still love my Carpis, though I only allow myself a couple every week, as a very special "treat".

On a more positive note, I'm now officially in love with MOV's RY4. It's never boring. Not only does it change flavor when I change voltages on my Provari, but also if I switch from the Provari to the Twist. And, strangest of all, I stuck it on my old long 510 auto, and that changed the taste considerably - I could taste vanilla a lot more. I know it's all due to minute changes in voltage from one device to the other, and maybe airflow differences, but it's a lot more fun to think of it as a magical juice. LOL

So, since I like this one, what other RY4s am I likely to like? (too many "likes") :D
