Ya i should have been more specific on mt. O. The tobacco is slightly different more American?.... The 555 is pretty good too if you haven't tried it.

I think my palate "is weird" some 555 are great many are so-so (or worse) either hit or miss (which is the same for many RY4 to me also) it seems to me to be called "an X" or "Y" flavor it should have the correct balance (or be named something else) Oh well such is how it goes LOL

JB,

Mine's weird, too---palate, I mean. I started out buying 555s early on with Dekang, Nhaler, and BWB, but the relationships never blossomed into love. Or even good friendships. It was OK one day, lousy the next. Even VaporStation Frisco---an amazing juice with that hazelnuttiness---never won me over completely.

It's very odd. I like nuts in RY4s, and I like peanut flavors. Heck, I don't even mind what Dr. Vapenstein calls that "mystery nut flavor" the Chinese and even some American juice-makers use in so many of their tobacco blends. Well, I mind a little, but not much. And yet, 555 loses me most of the time.

At this point, the only two 555s I actually like are 555 Exotic from BWB and Black Label 555 from Spring Vapor. The reason I like those two is that they are the least like 555 I've ever tried. Go figure.

i was just talking about this if you want a odd 555 try Stag Tobacco ...its a 555 caramel applewood.....

passer,

Yes, I read your post. Good job of revealing that the Emperor has no clothes. The original post in that thread put me off sufficiently that I will never order Stag Tobacco (especially now that you've described what it really is...) The OP's thread title (suggesting a ridiculous "showdown" between Stag Tobacco and Boba's Bounty, in which he then declared Stag the winner) was like those Ebay auctions for $50 Chinese guitars (not that all Chinese guitars are inferior---the higher-end can be quite good, actually--but the $50 cheapies are obviously crap). Anyway, those auctions sometimes include a phrase like, "similar to Martin or Gibson," in their tag line, so that people who do a search for "martin guitars" or "gibson guitars" will come up with their piece of garbage. That kind of manipulative marketing really rubs me the wrong way.

The one bottle I have of SpringVapor Black Label 555 will be enough to take care of all my 555 needs for the next two years. LOL.

I took out some V2 cartos from a first kit I bought when I first got into vaping, and compared it to a carto I filled with Dekang. The cartos suck compared to the one I put Dekang in, but they are very similar (V2 Sahara), if not the same thing. I don't know. Either that, or it's the same tobacco base. There is slightly more flavor to the dekang..but they both have a similar realm of sweetness and a similar dry, "chalky" texture (best way I can describe it). That chalky texture really puts me off. It's why I moved from V2 almost right away.

The review above---for CrystalELiquid RY4 Double Tobacco---may be what the doctor ordered for you. A classic RY4 heritage, but not much like Janty or Dekang. A good, middle-of-the-bell-curve synthetic tobacco, with no weird tones. And an almost clear color, with no macerated particulates to darken the liquid or clog a carto.

I think I may give this one a try. So many of the RY4s have not worked for me and I'm afraid my hubby will lose it if the mailman delivers any more juice (I need an alternate secret mailing address, lol). I agree with KDude in that I don't like the Chinese RY4s or the darker tobaccos either. I have several of HBV's tobaccos including the exotic blend and RY4 that definitely do not agree with my taste buds. It seems like I tend to favor tobacco flavors that are clear, in a bottle, and "no weird tones". My fave juice is VR's Kentucky premium blend which I have been vaping mostly since I started about 2 months ago. I find vaping the premium blend and adding my own caramel or vanilla works the best. Would you agree the RY4 double tobacco is a good choice or any other recommendations would be appreciated.

Just cracked a bottle of IKV RY4 Gold out of the mailbox. OMG almost forgot how good this stuff tastes. If you can get some ya have to try this juice. It's more of a traditional flavored RY4 and is my favorite. I have some BWB RY4 but not real found of it at the moment. BWB gets better the older it gets so that's not a problem.

Now that Ikenvape's site is finally up and running again, I'm sorely tempted to get some of IKV's other RY4. I don't really care much which came first (the chicken or the egg)---RY4 Gold or RY4. I just want to have both so I can taste the differences. So far, I've resisted spending the ten bucks, but odds are fair to middlin' that my frugality will go belly up in July, and I'll break down and order some.

Yeah, we all have our own codes that need to be unlocked, but 555 is not the right combination for me...unless it has Exotic at the end of it.

How does Black Label 555 taste, outside of it being less 555 tasting? I would also like to know how 555 Exotic tastes to you (I want to see if if reveals itself similarly to me).

Mr.M,

You might as well ask me to describe how Boba's Bounty tastes. Describing flavors is mostly downright impossible. That's one of the reasons I started The RY4 Roundup thread---at least with RY4s, we have the "Big Three" component ingredients to fall back on. To review an RY4, you don't have to literally describe the flavor, you just have to schmooze about vanilla, caramel, and tobacco. Oh, we might say that the caramel is rich or the tobacco is odd, and we might discuss nuttiness, marshmallow, or cotton candy as possible ingredient flavors, but we never really get down to defining the taste of caramel or tobacco or basically anything else. I can write one of my long reviews in such a way that I seem to know something authoritatively without ever defining a single flavor.

Define how "chocolate" tastes. Can't do it, right? All we can do is compare chocolates as to how they differ: one is more bitter, another is more creamy, a third is darker or more chalky, and so on.

We can say that NLV Bounty Hunter has a cereal component, but that's describing the flavor in terms of another flavor, and not even very specifically at that (Cap'n Crunch? Cheerios? Grape Nuts?---hell, even Grape Nuts tastes nothing like its name---no grapes, no nuts. LOL.)

OK, we can sort of describe lemonade in term of tartness versus sweetness, but what is the flavor of lemon at its essence? Well, um, it tastes like... (wait for it) LEMON! Duh. We might as well say that it tastes yellow. The only thing we can do is hope that the reader has actually eaten real lemons and then describe the flavor of a lemon eliquid as exactly like that, sort of like that, or nothing like that.

Same with Spring Vapor Black Label 555 or BWB 555 Exotic. I wouldn't know how to begin to describe what they taste like. The best I can do is to say that I like them, or to offer the somewhat exaggerated comment that---unlike many 555s---they don't make me scrunch up my face, gag, or want to puke. I mean, besides "tobacco and nuts," which is the uber-generic definition of 555, what can we truly say? Only that those two juices taste more like really yummy tobacco blends than ordinary 555s.

Now, aren't you glad you asked? You've squeezed out of me one of the Secret Truths of Juice Reviews: Reviewers hardly ever describe how juices taste. Why not? Because we can't. We just compare the taste of the juice to known flavors or use flavor qualities (tart, sweet, sour, pungent, tangy, rich, creamy, etc.) in the same way (as comparisons to other juices or known flavors).

There, I've revealed the Magician's secret to how the trick is done. It's all smoke and mirrors. Well, I guess it's just mirrors, since smoke is verboten. Vapor and Mirrors. LOL.

Yeah, I know! Maybe it was a bit unfair to ask "how does it taste" as opposed to "what does it taste like". I think it may have been a case of a student challenging the instructor. Damn it! I did really want to see your attempt though. ;)

Mr.M,

It was a fair question. I just decided to tell the truth rather than try to BS my way through a response. In fact, I liked your question, because it gave me the chance to write something real.

I'd love to hear what people think of the VaporGod RY4. I just received a second 30mL bottle today (I thought the first one was an error, and they were kind enough to send me a replacement), and somehow it tastes... minty/mouthwashy in an odd sort of way that is quite offputting. I haven't detected this in any of their other flavors (I've been having a very pleasant time with their Apple/Tobacco FlavorLab flavor), but this is confusing me greatly.

midfi,

You know, I've gone to the VaporGod site more times than I can remember, looked over their eliquids (including RY4, of course), even put items into the cart, but---when it comes time to pull the trigger---something always stops me. I don't know what it is exactly. High prices? No, VaporGod's pricing is relatively inexpensive. $4 shipping? Nope. Bad customer reviews? Well, one customer review for VaporGod RY4 mentioned citrus, which gave me pause, but none of those factors are really why I haven't purchased a bottle of their RY4.

I get the same feeling from VaporGod that I get from Vapure, JuicyVapor, or Madvapes Top Vapor---maybe "bargain basement" juice is too harsh, but visiting their sites always feels to me like walking into Home Depot or Lowes. And it stops me dead in my tracks. Yes, I've bought juices from Vapure and Madvapes, but that was early on in my vaping journey. At this point, I'm too far along to vape "ordinary" juice made from standard, off-the-shelf, lowest-common-denominator flavorings.

I want to vape juice from the most creative artisan juice-makers on the planet. Even if those juices are more expensive, even if I don't like every single juice I buy from the boutique vendors (and I don't), it's still my preference to buy from the slightly-crazy gonzo juice alchemists rather than what feels to me like the old women in hairnets that made the school cafeteria swill I ate back in junior high. Juices from some vendors strike me as the vaping equivalent to Campbell's Tomato Soup or canned chili with bottle-squeezed PB&J sandwiches. Not that I don't like tomato soup or peanut butter. I do, but I want my tomato soup made from scratch with the finest, freshest ingredients by a natural foods master chef, and I want my peanut or almond butter 100% organic and made by hand in small batches rather than in 1,000-gallon drums.

Basically, any standard retail juice I can DIY myself---and probably with the same so-so results---gets crossed off my list. I simply won't buy it. Not anymore, and never again.

In fairness, if someone sends me a bottle of VaporGod RY4 for review, and it turns out to be terrific, I'll eat my words, apologize profusely, and take back all I've written here. Sometimes I'm just dead wrong. But what I wrote above is the truth of how I feel.

[My apologies to anyone who loves VaporGod, JuicyVapor, Vapure, or Madvapes Top Vapor juices. This post reflects my personal opinion only. YMMV.]
