How does NLV gold stack up with everything else in RY4 fan land? I've seen it mentioned in this thread- is it an RY4? Do you recommend it?

lannister,

NLV Gold is the heir apparent (to Bounty Hunter) as the King of NLV Land---the new Crown Prince to the reigning monarch, so to speak. Gold doesn't even visit RY4 Land, much less have a Green Card to allow it to hang out there. Gold tastes no more like an RY4 than Bounty Hunter does. NLV already has its own ambassador in RY4 Land---Renegade RY4.

And yes, as the hangdude wrote, the only reason Gold has been mentioned on The Big RY4 Roundup thread is that people sometimes post here asking me what I like besides RY4---especially with regard to tobacco blends---so I tell them. NLV Gold holds a high rank among my 25-or-so daily vapes, although my most recent love affairs are with Mr. Vape's Special Blend and Gandalf from Heather's Heavenly Vapes.

You are a butterfly, Bill.

I have found myself sastisfied by single, all-day flavors, with the occasional review flavor to break up the monotony. Currently I am loving Conspiracy. It is a nutty, coconut tobacco blend. I enjoy when a ejuice has depth and staying power.

Other then a Coffee & Cream review and tasting NLV Gold today, it has been a Conspiracy day.

I just had an idea and wonder if anyone has tried mixing BWB's Vanilla Bean with their Dulce De Leche (caramel)? Might resemble the RY4? Think I need to place my order! LOL.

On Target,
You and I have similar tastes in flavors. We both like Cassablanca, Applewood, MOV's tobaccos. QNJ's RY4 and 555, PV4, Love From Above, and House Blend.

My suggestion would be to try Mom & Pop Vapor Shop next. I would go for the Haze, RY4v2, and Conspiracy.

I think if mixing VBean and DdLeche (each good on their own) would make a great RY4, Don would have found it by now. It might make a good dessert vape, but you would need a tobacco (like 555E).

That said, sometimes mixing two ejuices does make for a great flavor. I like mixing QNJ's 555 with Enigma. It makes a nutty RY4 type vape.

The 30ml green glass dropper bottle sent to me by Sean at CrystalELiquid for review contains the most transparent niquid I can ever remember seeing in any RY4. It’s almost colorless at 24mg nic strength in a fairly thick 50PG/50VG base.

RY4 Double Tobacco has the same quality of sweetness as the regular RY4, but---with twice the tobacco flavoring---the impact of sweetness is diminished in effect. Sweet is relegated to singing back-up harmonies (with its sisters Good Caramel and Nice Vanilla) as Tobacco grabs the lead mike to belt out the melody. This kicked-up RY4 has more tobacco presence, depth, bite, and throat hit. Oh, it’s still an RY4, and very clearly so---since the caramel and vanilla make their presence felt in the well-blended juice---but tobacco is the star. Grade: A-

Link: RY4 Double Tobacco

Thank you so much for this review. It was spot on for me and a welcomed change to order an ejuice that actually tasted like it was reviewed. This one was perfect right out of the mailbox. It definitely satisfies the tobacco craving without any weird aftertastes. I also love that it's clear! I'm definitely subscribed to this thread. :)

Haze is kind of like a hazelnut cookie tobacco. RY4v2 is your American custom RY4 (as are RY4 and RYO4). Bill has reviewed them somewhere here in the thread. RYO4 (Roll Your Own) has a stronger tobacco. RY4 and RY4v2 are just variations of the same blend, one with more valilla, one with more caramel. Don't ask me which, I'm not sure. I just liked version 2 better (but Bill liked version 1).

If you like nutty and coconut tobacco, you should try Conspiracy. It is my current fave.

Oh, and Tobacco Haze will turn a redish tint when it has fully steeped, about 5-7 days.

I think that is "the trick" to a great RY4 , the tobacco must compliment the other two flavors making a great flavor combo! Sounds simple enough doesn't it LOL:toast:

JB,

Yes, I think most of us who are either retail-juice mixologists (meaning that we try combining retail liquids in various combinations to see what we can come up with) or DIY-from-scratch adventurers (or both), know all too well that the Holy Trinity of Tobacco-Caramel-Vanilla is not a recipe for RY4, just a ballpark description of the general flavor profile of RY4s. If creating a great RY4 were truly as simple as just tossing together those three flavorings, then most RY4s would be superb. But we know that only a select number of RY4s are truly stellar, while the bulk are merely pedestrian. OK in a pinch, but nothing to write home about.

How many different variations of tobacco, caramel, and vanilla flavorings are available in the marketplace? Literally hundreds of just those three categories. Sure, we could pick out a single version of each flavor element by tossing darts at a board, but the chances of getting a great RY4 from random selection are pretty slim.

And it's not just flavorings, although they're obviously a big part of the equation. Base liquids and nic vary widely in quality and tone. Some source brands of PG and VG sort of suck, while others excel. And nicotine liquid is almost never neutral. Nic from one vendor modifies flavor differently than nic from another vendor (unless they happen to be from the same source manufacturer).

Making terrific vaping liquids may not be quite the airy-fairy mystical dream of turning lead-into-gold transformation pursued by Alchemical monks in the Middle Ages, but it's more challenging than some people assume. Becoming a great juice-maker takes a certain innate talent and temperament, along with considerable experience, gumption, and a ton of patience. Most ultra-popular juices are the successful end result of a long but invisible trail of false starts, rejects, and failures. As Thomas Edison famously said, "Invention is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration."

Does anyone find that most tobacco type juices are either really faint on the tobacco or overpowering? I would be interested if anyone knows of a juice or a juice class that has a present tobacco taste along with it's fruit or sweet counterpart. There are some juices, that I love, that are supposed to be a tobacco juice and I just get everything else. Maybe tobacco is a base layer....giving the juice it's body but the flavor comes from the other flavors.

I recently picked up a load of juices from Neon Vapors, RY4 among them. Let me just say that except for the "Caranilla" juice they are all stored in a dark closet with the lids off for some steeping time, including the RY4. I cant complain tho cause you get what you pay for. With the sale I caught, .04 cents a ml is certainly inexpensive. I just dont like to steep juice cause I like to vape it right out of the mail box.

lannister,

You might try RY4 Double Tobacco from CrystalELiquid. Their regular RY4 is a rarity, an American-made classic formulation. RY4 Double Tobacco is a new addition to CrystalELiquid's juice line. The tobacco is mild (so it's not overpowering or harsh), but there's twice as much tobacco flavoring compared to their standard RY4, so the tobacco is more prominent in the mix of flavors. The juice is still quite well-blended, but the overall flavor profile leans more toward the tobacco than toward the caramel-vanilla.

I reviewed RY4 Double Tobacco on June 28th in post #1998. There's a link at the end of the review.

Anyone who has even "played with making a good DIY RY4" knows it's not as easy as it would seem, once you get a decent RY4 you've made yourself I think you appreciate a great RY4 even more!

I'm with you, JB.

My caveat is that---so far at least---I've never managed to make a decent RY4 from scratch.

Four that I DIY'd from pre-mixed RY4 flavoring concentrates were all right (specifically, TPA RY4 Double and Asian, Want2vape RY4, and the European Decadent Vapors DY4), but every other RY4 flavoring I've tried for DIY---about eleven others besides the four mentioned above---were disappointingly sub-par. A couple were so dreadful that I not only poured the juice down the drain, but the flavoring as well.

I did get close to replicating Mom&Pops RYO4, using Tobacco Extract and either of the good TPA RY4 flavorings (Double or Asian), but that's not truly from scratch.

So, in my particular case, failure rather than success has made me appreciate many of the retail RY4s more---even the some of the lackluster ones---and I'm now downright astonished by the very best retail RY4s. You'd think it would be simple, given the sympathetic nature of the core flavors. I mean, what's so hard about tobacco, caramel, and vanilla? I don't know, but I can attest that it's nowhere near as easy as one might assume.

I'm not giving up, however. I have a wish list in my Vaping Zone account containing 18 of their relatively new super-concentrated flavorings waiting to be moved into the ordering cart, as soon as I can convince my "inner accountant" to release the funds. LOL. Maybe next month.
