specs: My 3ml sample bottle of PY4 was included free with a larger order from VB. The nicquid is a transparent orange-ish or amber color, 18mg nic strength, in a fairly thick 50/50 PG/VG blend. Testing was done by atty-dripping into a 2.5 ohm IKV i06 powered by a regulated 5V Luicy Juicy feeder box for a loaded power output of 10 watts.

PY4 is a beta-test liquid on the VB web site. Their description says only “Beta version of our ‘Pancake Y4’ flavor.” As for what’s in it, that’s for VB’s juice-maker to know, and the rest of us to ferret out.

When our esteemed ECF colleague ogredog posted his review for the very same juice on June 22nd (a link to that thread is at the bottom of this review), there was some question as to whether or not PY4 qualified as a bonafide RY4. No firm consensus was reached at the time, as you can read for yourself if you check out that thread.

“Pancake Y4.” Hmmm. Well, that could mean a combination of pancakes with RY4 for the syrup, or pancakes with maple syrup and RY4, or even pancakes with maple syrup and just part of the flavorings of RY4---presumably caramel and vanilla.

That last possibility is obviously wrong, because ogredog tasted tobacco, and so do I. It’s generic tobacco---undistinguished, but pleasant and inoffensive, as well as easily discerned. Also, the first option doesn’t make sense because PY4 has a clear and distinct maple flavor. Which leaves us with the middle choice---pancakes with maple syrup and RY4.

What do I taste? Waffles. Or pancakes or even crepes, but you know, any of those dessert-treat-for-breakfast concoctions made with flour. Definitely and primarily waffles. And then maple flavor for the syrup. Also definitely. Yes, I do pick up some tobacco, so there may also be some caramel and vanilla, but I can’t identify the latter two as individual flavorings. If they’re present, they’ve been absorbed into or masked by the dominant pancake/waffle flavor.

Functionally, this is a pancakes/waffles with syrup juice to which a subtle tobacco element has been added. And that, my friends, is not an RY4. Not in my book, anyway.

OK, Bill, but however we designate PY4, is it a tasty juice? Yeah, I guess so. I mean, it’s fine---sweet, almost fluffy with the wheat flour element, and with enough maple flavor to please those who like maple syrup, plus (as an added bonus, like a prize in the cereal box) a bit o’ bacco to pull in the tobacco lovers.

I give a grade of B, but I won’t include it on The Big List of RY4s because it’s not an RY4. Simple as that.

Revisiting the Dekang RY4 (Health Cabin)..

It's better than before. I think that might have something to do with the fact that I'm dripping. It's got a stronger vanilla profile than any reviews here would have led me. Maybe all of these Chinese juices do, and I'm just realizing it. There's still that weird hint of "chalkiness" that I get from these Chinese ry4s, but it's better in a drip. I'm not a big vanilla fan in itself, but this is decent vaping atm. I have no complaints. It's just not something I'll be vaping a lot of.

edit: I should add another impression of GJ4. It's like the polar opposite. A darker caramel. My only complaint is that the sweetness doesn't seem natural. Almost like a sweet and low/Equal type of sweetness to it.

Thank you for the wonderful reviews, and thank you to everyone who has contributed their favorites as well. I must say that now that I am back into vaping, I'm convinced to try a few of these vendors, especially this mythical Backwoods Brew RY4! Hopefully it appears one day.

I haven't tried a lot of ry4 but I do love myfreedomsmokes ry4. it could just be that they start with an awsome base bc I haven't found anything there I don't like. I have tried flavourart oryental. it is good but not an ry4 craving cure
I like myfreedomsmokes RY4. For me, I like the lighter colored, clearer liquids, since in my experience they don't burn out atty's quite as fast (I've been using the same 510 for months in my Silver Bullet). In this case, the flavor is sweet and light. Its pretty much all I vape, also because they sell bulk liquids. Then again, perhaps these other places do as well, I just haven't looked around much since finding this one 8 months ago or so. And I don't even mess around with other flavors. Like analogs, I am very loyal to one particular brand/ flavor.

Thanks for the lengthy review; now I've got some more varieties of RY4 to try out!
These are just over a year ago. Order at your own risk, but you should be safe.

specs: ECF member Cool_Breeze won some juices from Vapesales in a contest and was sent a 10ml bottle of RY4 by mistake. Graciously, he mailed it to me so I could review it. The liquid is a medium-amber color, 36mg nic (feels like it, too, as will become apparent later in the review) in an unspecified base. From the viscosity, I’d guess maybe 80/20 PG/VG. Testing was done with a 2.0 ohm Boge carto powered by an Ovale V8 set to 3.4 volts. Because of the V8’s PWM, voltage settings might be inaccurate; a setting of 3.4 volts vapes like 4+, so I’d guess the power to be around 8-8.5 watts.

Vapesales is a new vendor with a line of US-made juices called Gold Label. The bottle I have reads “RY4,” but there is no straight RY4 on their site. Instead, Vapesales offers a juice they call “RY4 Squared,” which may be what this is, with mislabeling perhaps being the reason this particular bottle was given away in a contest. That’s just my speculation, however. Maybe this juice isn’t RY4 Squared. Could be a previous or earlier version.

Whatever we call it, this is a very hard-hitting tobacco juice (because of the 36mg nic strength, a potency to which I am unaccustomed) with a custom RY4 profile, more vanilla than caramel, but ample in all three basic elements. I don’t pick up any other flavors---no nuts, and no stray flavors of any kind. The mix isn’t unified or blended; each flavor makes its presence felt (or rather, tasted).

Is it good? Well, let me put it this way. It’s not bad. As I vape it while writing this review, I have quite a buzz on from the nic. I’d have a better read on the flavor profile if the nic concentration were lower. The caramel seems to struggle a bit to keep from being overwhelmed by the dominant tobacco and vanilla. It’s not that the caramel is weak, just that the other two flavors are so strong.

Do I like it? I honestly can’t tell, given that my head is spinning from the nic. I wouldn’t choose to vape it at this nic potency, but at 18 or 24mg, it might be fine. Something about the tobacco is slightly unusual, but not in a bad way. Virginian, maybe?

Forgive me, but I have to stop now. I’m about to pass out from the nic buzz. (You probably think I'm kidding, but I'm dead serious...) On the one hand, this liquid nicotine is quite impressive. I haven’t vaped anything with this kind of kick-.... buzz in memory. On the other hand, it’s probably an unfair review, since I’m barely lucid. If you like vanilla, tobacco, and a huge buzz, however, this 36mg RY4 (or RY4 Squared) from Vapesales just might be the juice for you.

Grade (as sampled): C-, but might be considerably higher at a reduced nic level.

I tried a sample of MFS RY4 and it was not to my taste. It has that "cooked" tobacco taste...difficult to describe but unpleasant to my taste buds. However, that was waaaay back in February so take my opinion for what it's worth.

I am also interested in this forum's opinion on a juice: Vulcan Vape's RYGAR which is made by Want2Vape. I find it very mild and smooth but it probably needs more steeping .

Lawz, that sounds like quite a buzz, Bill. Posting here, just reminded me that I forgot to re-order Mad 4 when I ran out of it. I did end up liking that one. I've given up on Dekang RY4 these days. Mostly just using Kick Bass RY4 and Renegade which isn't really an RY4, we know. Other than that, no RY4 for me.

Just checking in to say howdy, Bill.

sandy,

Yes, I'm living proof that one can OD on RY4. LOL. Kick Bass RY4 is certainly good stuff, and Renegade, well, that's NLV. (How does Gene do it? All his flavorings taste slightly artificial, but the end result in the mixes is still delicious. Amazing.)

As an aside, I've even been vaping---and making---lots of fruit blends recently. Go figure.

The one thing I really long for now is a terrific cream flavoring to add, well, creaminess to my DIY blends. I just ordered a 10ml bottle of Cream flavoring, along with nine others from the relatively new line of super-concentrated alcohol-based Chinese flavorings---10mls of flavoring makes 400mls of juice---from EcigExpress (VapingZone has them also, but ECX sells 10ml bottles for the same price that VZ charges for 5ml.) Users say that this super-concentrated cream flavor puts all the other creams to shame. Guess I'll find out.

scarf,

Sorry, but I can't give an opinion about a juice I haven't tried. Looks like you're the authority on Rygar. I will say that Donley is certainly among the finest artisan juicemasters in the marketplace.

What are your favorite fruity blends that you've been concocting? I'm hearing really really good things about Alt-Cig's Peach Milkshake... gonna give it a try next time I order from her. She's had two 30% off sales this summer, so I have been stocking up on the good stuff - Horchata, Gooey Caramel Cookie, Gooey Butter Cake, Spiced Cookie, and I can't remember what else.

sandy,

Mostly simple blends. Strawberries are my preferred fruit, so I've made most of the standard combos---strawberries and cream, strawb shortcake, waffle, and cheesecake, plus a berry mix (straw, rasp, cran, black, brightened up with a little lemon and the tiniest hint of menthol) that turned out yummy.

I can hardly believe the how many of AltCig's juices I've bought. And I vape 'em, too. All the milkshakes are good, so I hear. I tried the banana milkshake, thinking I probably wouldn't like it, but it's very good. Spiced Cookie and Sugar Cookie are my faves. How does she make them taste so authentic? They're dead ringers for real ginger snaps and sugar cookies.

Wow, you found a good strawberry? All the strawberry juices I tried tasted fakey-plasticy. I luv strawberry flavor!

Sunny's guys that do the mixing come up with this stuff! Amazing!

sandy,

Capellas is pretty good for strawberry. Their Sweet Strawberry is a tad too sweet and not tart enough for my palate, but I cut it with a bit of TPA Lemon flavor, and it ends up tasting very authentic. Capellas Strawberries and Cream is good, too---I used that in my fruit mix for the creaminess.

I, too, have been through a bunch of sub-par strawberry flavoring concentrates, but Capellas is close enough to please me.

When I want to make certain simple combinations, sometimes I just mix retail juices. For instance, PrimeVaping makes the best Strawberry eliquid I've ever had---not too potent and tastes exactly like wild strawberries picked right off the vine, just sweet enough and nicely tart. I mixed that 1:1 with Waffle from NLV to make my Strawberry-Waffle juice.

Looks like you're the authority on Rygar

Okay then, no pressure (gulp):

RYGAR, made by Want2Vape exclusively for Vulcan Vape. Trying this at 18mg, in a SmokTech XXXL clear dcc at 4.1v on my Provari Mini. PG/VG ratio is not specified.

The first impression on inhale is a mild full-flavoured tobacco. I'm not expert on tobacco types so I don't know if this is Kentucky or Burley or Virginia or what, but it nicely straddles the middle ground between too aromatic and what I have in the past referred to as "cooked" flavour. The vanilla is bright and appealing, and the caramel leaves an echo of caramel rather than actual sweetness.

I bought a bunch of bottles from Vulcan including the infamous Boba's Bounty (oatmeal-raisin cookies, anyone?) and I can't resist a new RY4. It is well-blended enough that one tastes RY4 full stop, rather than tobacco plus caramel plus vanilla. (Kind of like pizza. I have high regard for pizzas that taste like pizza, not crust PLUS cheese PLUS tomato, etc.) This is a very nice vape that sneaks up on you. To use Billherbst's useful terminology, I feel like it is halfway between the "Classic" and "Custom" types of RY4. (Nothing like hedging my bets, LOL)

Incidentally, I hope more businesses take up Vulcan's model of a sort of E-liquid emporium, where many different brands are available in pre-made small bottles. This is a special boon to us poor overseas slobs since we can avoid multiple shipping charges, and try juices that their makers (W2V and AVE) don't ship internationally.

And, to top off this review on a completely irrelevant note, the absolute unqualified hit of the order was W2V Campfire Coffee. If you have ever wanted a coffee vape that tasted like a snootful of freshly ground beans rather than the brewed beverage, drop everything and buy this.

EDITED TO ADD vapor is quite decent and colour is a pretty warm brown.

scarf,

An "ace" review (befitting your handle). Sounds like RYGAR (RYgar?) is a very well-blended, smooth RY4. I've not had w2v's retail RY4, but I have reviewed juice I made from Donley's RY4 flavoring concentrate, and I like that a lot.

I agree with you about Campfire Coffee. Here, too, I've not had w2v's retail premix, but I like to keep at least a small bottle of the flavoring concentrate for DIY. It's a very bracing coffee flavor. As the title implies, this ain't no filter-drip, it's old-style brewed coffee from a percolator---industrial strength, black and sharp.

Thanks for contributing a review. I take it you've had a lot of RY4s. Any further reviews you wish to post would be more than welcome. I admit to liking the stature that this thread has given me, but my goal is to have a "club" of RY4 reviewers who hang out and post here. Please consider yourself a member-in-good-standing of the club.
