Lol true that! And probably a stupid question but how long does it usually take for your REO to reach your doorstep? I have this itch in my hand and for some reason only a box mod will scratch it! :D

Good evening REOvillians!

Food? You guys are talking food?!! Well, it is Thursday night :D

I made a roasted pork loin which I marinated over night with my own mix of salty, sweet, spicy, herby stuff I throw together and served it with a pan sauce, baked sweet potatoes and herb buttered mixed veggies. Nothing fancy, but it was a success.

My (normal) brother brought me a honey baked ham bone so I have the stock simmering now for soup, but can't decide whether to do a split pea or other bean/legume soup. I was thinking maybe lentil since I just made split pea last week? Any suggestions?

Split pea and ham would be my choice. Has to be the green ones the yellow ones suck ya green split pea and ham soup. Make it in the crock pot let her cook till the next day then eat yuummmmmmy.

I do like to use the crock for it so I don't have to watch it so closely. In a regular pot on the stove, I have to stir quite a lot or it may scorch. DH got me a new crock and it is much hotter even on the low setting because it is some special sort of one that you can lock and carry with you and holds the heat. I used that one last week for it and it scorched it. Also, I heard they were upping the heat level or something for low on new ones so as to get food above the "danger zone" quicker, so if you have an old one vs. new one, use the older one for thick stuff like split pea. My old one never poisoned me, so I just thought someone could use that tidbit on crock pot temps :)

Oh, and I bet you can never guess where he bought the new one?

either pinto or lima beans some call them butter beans

I really like that idea! I have never made lima bean soup before, I will have to ask DH if he would like that. Thank you so much! I just love trying new things :)

Do you just use the limas or do you add other stuff?

my new crock is a lot hotter than my smaller old one it will do a full boil on high the low is a steady simmer so I often use the high for first several hours then low over night or for the day and then it has a keep warm setting which i think is close to the low on my old one I had one it was ok for awhile but then it got brutal hot and scorched a pulled pork i made I was some ...... about it it immediately went in the garbage

Then I will take my observation as CONFIRMED: new crock pots are hotter. They should put some sort of warning on them for those of us who are used to the older ones, tossing out a pulled pork would piss me off too! The new one does have the warm setting, but I never thought to try that as equal to the low on my old one :thumb:

i cook them like any other bean i add bacon and or ham onion garlic and salt and pepper they tend to cook faster than pintos so no need to soak them overnight
