Hello REO world!

Hi Scott :)

Hi Alice, you are a hero in my eyes for getting scum locked up. I am glad you and your DH are ok.

Hi RHP and anyone else who is in here...

He's probably not scum. We don't know if he's done any tours or how many. He definitely needs some help. We didn't press charges. He'll get enough hell from his sergent and hopefully a terrible hangover tomorrow. This guy, though, is dangerous.

Howdy sonny.

Yeah it was pretty bizarre. I'm on fourth bottled wine cooler trying to slow down. Better take an aspirin so I don't have hangover in morning, coming too soon. This may sound petty but room we had was suite with two queens. Supposedly no rooms left in inn. The room we moved to is king, one bed. I'm in recliner and DH just said, "Are you here? " Oh, he knows the Feisty all too well. Last time we were here, a few weeks ago, I took wee hours strolls to lobby, lounge, exercise room, pool, etc., to unwind. Don't want to risk any more excitement tonight.

Gonna hit the bed in a few.

Hold those you love close in heart and mind.

You're right but i was mad because he could have hurt you.

Maybe he did it because he was drunk? Some people should not drink or at least not get drunk!

He was pretty intimidating. He outweighed DH by about 40 lbs, 6 ft, and DH will be 78 in a few days. Think 80. I mean, he's far from his prime. One good swing from the guy and either or both of us would have been out. I was ready to deflect any blows if he swung at me but I ain't no spring chicken myself. Cop who came back to talk to us commended me for taking him down without hurting him but DH had just been, a few minutes before, saying I could have caused him damage or death. I see it as I'm lucky he didn't connect with my head.

I left my gun in my car at home. Twice, involving violence, that I'm glad I wasn't directly armed although I felt pretty helpless and naked both times. I had it all planned out how to get to DH's gun if the guy knocked him down or out.

Right as the three cops were coming down the hallway the guy, across the hall from our room, stuck his head out to see what was going on. I told him cops coming and everything going to be okay. Well...... we spent close to 30 minutes dealing with this guy till cops arrived......... Next time.... yeah, like it will happen again...... while I'm on phone to 911 I'll go up and down the hall, banging on doors, and surely a few good wo/men will come out to back us up. We felt so alone even with 911 on phone. Surely they have on tape the whole 20+ minute call before they got there. Later in call they asked me several times if anyone was bleeding or breathing. And who was injured and if ambulances were needed. BTW... first person brought second person in on call. Several times much into call, especially after guy put his arms around DH I told them they had better get someone here fast because someone might be seriously hurt. This was 10 minutes into call, 10 minutes after whole thing started.

They knew we were armed. DH put gun in pocket as they approachedn and told where it was and we raised our hands. I had cell phone in one hand and told them. DH said he had gun in pocket. They quickly told us OK you can lower hands. My immediate thought was, "How would this have gone down if we were not white, old folks?"

Alice, Just wow, i would not have known what to do. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets in the news.

Hope not, hope, hope not!!!!! We don't need that. Only way news will know who we are is not "legal." Not uncommon for our service guys to get into troubles. Just so thankful it didn't go any further than it did. Trying to keep unpolitical here but the past two decades have been an atrocity for our service persons and their families. If this guy had been a street thug I might feel differently towards him, but after knowing his history, maybe not. He didn't outright physically attack us but who knows how far he might have gone. I'm thankful it didn't require deadly intervention.

Time for sleep. I may call in late.

Good morning Reoville. I woke up way too early today. Having my coffee and vaping away, news on the TV watching Egypt unraveling. Tried to make a few photos of the sweating Grand but will try another day as its not sweating too much today. Anyone else have wind up pendulum clock . I have two wall clocks. One an old Regulator school house clock from around 1900 and a reproduction bought around 30 years ago. The tick tock is very soothing in the early hours. Each is an 8 day wind. I've been eating BLTs made with tomatoes from the garden and home made bread..yum. I want to make mayonnaise but the method I saw requires a hand blender (immersion blender) and I don't have one. Everyone in the northeast likes Helmans and I guess down south there's another brand favored by most people. I am going to be buying a new battery charger in a few days. I've been using the same one for over a year now and I have no backup. It would be trouble if the one I have fails. I'm looking at the Nitecore i2. $15 to the door. It has good reviews from the Lighthounds. Those Lighthounds are very tech savvy with the graphs and charts and thorough testing procedures. IF you want to know about batteries and chargers these folks seem to know their stuff. Talked to a buddy the other day and he was saying he would like to take a road trip to Maine again. We did one about 7 years ago. We travel around and take photos and eat pie. I like the area around Acadia and like staying on Deer Isle in a little town called Stonington, which is a fishing town that is off the beaten path so as not too yuppyfied. If we go it will be after school starts, maybe late September to get some color, fog etc.

I got great news the other day. My daughter and the two grand kids will be coming home for Christmas. They'll be here for 3-4 weeks. The kids are 5 and 2. We haven't seen them for 2 years as South Africa is so far away. What a trip with two young kids in tow! Its bad enough on your own. Last time I traveled there it was 52 hours door to door. Usually its around mid 30 hours.

Well I guess its time for me to wake up. Everyone in Reoville do something special for someone, somewhere today.

That would be Dukes. CATastrophe loves that. I am a Miracle Whip person. I have never tried to make my own mayonnaise, never saw the benefit.

good morning Laurin :)
Good morning Scott

Hi ltrainer, Have you tried putting a cover on your Reo when you aren't using it?

btw those are some cute grandkids. Do you talk to them online with skype or whatever so you can see each other. I know you all will be happy for Christmas!

We Skype about every 2 months. THe time difference and the busy house of my daughter makes it tough to Skype.

I just want to try it to see how it tastes, save a buck too( i can be cheap), tailor the taste perhaps and have it be freshly made. I guess just to see what its like.

A little too much excitement for the night.

We are fine. Short story.... we were acousted by a 20 something very drunken passive-agressive guy, who followed us from elevator to our hotel room and demanded we open the door. DH "worked" with him while I struggled to find my phone to call 911. While on the phone with 911 he put his arms around DH. I stepped up and gave him the "back off" which gave DH a chance to draw his gun. He was up in our faces for about 20 minutes even with a gun on him. Finally, after he touched me a few times I put a one handed choke on him, with phone and police in other hand, and he went down for about 60 seconds. It went on and he kept daring DH to shoot him. To be continued. He's in jail and no one hurt.

Wish I had Jack to 'splain this for me and do it justice.

Chill bumps everywhere...so scary! I'm glad it didn't go any further than that and you and DH weren't physically harmed. Don't know what to say...glad DH had a gun, both of your senses and your feisty quick thinking!

I'm from a long line of Hellman's users (except for Nanny's squash casserole...that MUST have Miracle Whip.) Tried Dukes for the first time in my life last year, thought it was comparable to Hellman's but not quite the same. Homemade mayo is easy to whip up, no immersion blender needed, you can use a blender, beaters, whisks, or even a fork. Secret is to slowly drizzle the oil in as beating the egg yolk, and to allow the egg yolk to come up to room temperature before starting. Here is a basic recipe, olive oil can be substituted for the canola Homemade Mayonnaise Recipe at Epicurious.com Gets really fun when you start adding peppers, garlic, spices, herbs,.... :)

Your road trip to Maine sounds like a dream! I hope you have a blast and bring us back tons of pictures and stories. By the way, I make pie.

Congrats on the Christmas family reunion, too!
