I still have several pages to read to catch up around here!
We had a bit of excitement here at the house earlier today. Fortunately, every thing is OK, but it reminded me again of how I can be fine while a crisis is happening, but then fall apart afterwards. I have the two little guys here today - the 1 year old was sleeping in the bedroom down the hall, the 2 year old was playing in the living room. I had had the heater on for a little bit earlier in the morning, but it was off. All of a sudden I hear a "whoosh" and then it smells like something is burning, over by the end of the hall by the heater. I grab the 2 kids, my purse with my ipad and phone, my laptop, and my dog's collar and take them all outside. I see what looks like smoke from under the eaves above the ba
throom window, so I call 911. We had 1 motorcycle cop, 2 cop cars, 2 fire engines in front of the house and one several doors down in front of the fire hydrant. I put my dog in the car, was holding the littlest guy, and chasing the 2 year old around to keep him in the yard and out of the house or the street. The firemen checked everything - no fire present, but they did agree that it was smoky and burnt smelling in the house. So most likely it was dust in the ducts that may have caught on fire and then burned out.
Fortunately one of my son-in-law's works in HVAC, so he's going to check it this evening when he comes to pick his son up. Most likely the heating system should be replaced - it's probably about 50 years old. He thinks that he and one of his buddies whom he works with can do it as a side job, for a lot less than calling out a company. It's a good think I'm all set on Reo's, RM2's, nic
juice and flavorings - I think all my November spending is going to be on a new furnace.
