Well yeah, I roast mine too... BUT I wanna try crock potting it for the kicks and whistles with my brand spanking new toy :D

If I am reading it right, you are saying take the skin off after cooking and broil it on a cookie sheet AND KEEP MY EYE ON IT?

I use to fix chicken in the slow cooker all the time. I would plop in a frozen chicken add my spices and let it cook all day. It would fall off the bone, nice and juicy. But you do lose the crispy skin. I left the skin on because I liked the chicken fat to help season the chicken and add moisture.

When I wanted crispy chicken I would fry it.

Now I use the convection roaster. Talk about crispy skin! You can watch the skin blister and see the juice under the skin! I don't really see a need to fry anymore. The chicken comes out perfect, moist and tender.

Just tried bobas bounty for the first time... Dunno what to think... Should a 100ml bottle need to steep for a while first? (I only got 100ml cuz i heard from someone that it was the bees knees, otherwise i try small orders first)

If you don't like it at first put it aside and try again later. I didn't care for it initially then tried it again a month or so later and loved it

I am going to elevate it on a rough cut veggie mirepoix so it doesn't sit in the juice and see if that helps. Then remove it, see how the skin is and if it is falling apart will skin it and put it in the convection to broil. If it doesn't fall apart, I will just broil the whole bird.

Then I am going to take the juice and veggies in the bottom plus all the bones, add some water and make stock. I can kill two birds with one crockpot that way

Thanks for the tips!

Got my eyes on a black wrinkle silver vein Grand..so may well join REOville here soon., im running out of excuses on why NOT to buy it..just a bit weary of jumping into a mechanical and the vv grand seems akin to buying a Ferrari or Lambo with an automatic... its amazing but still seems it would be missing something even though .8 ohm is as low as I plan to go.

Most of my crock pot chickens were pulled apart and used for other dishes. Like chicken cacciatore, chicken with yellow rice, or add bbq sauce and bun.

As you have heard the Grand with a RM2 will knock your socks off at .8 ohms. Well worth the bucks to get a mechanical that will last basically your lifetime.

I've never cooked a chicken in the crock pot...but can see it in my near future. I grew up thinking crock pots were only for beans. Every weekend included a pot of beans and a pan of cornbread. I remember after working in the woods clearing land thinking that was my favorite meal in the world.
Still in my top five of favorite meals.

Welcome!

I love my grand, it is my go to PV. I have the VV's also, but for me the Grand just works! I would not consider a Grand a downgrade from the VV, it is just... different and perfect in it's own way.

I can't remember where I got this recipe for chicken in a crock pot, but I like chicken thighs, so I rinse then dry them, rub them with some olive oil, sprinkle your favorite herbs on them, then take some aluminum foil and roll it into loose balls, put the aluminum foil balls in the crock pot and set the chicken on top skin side up, keeps the chicken out of the grease. The skin doesn't come out crispy, so I take them out when they are done, and put them in a 400degree oven for about 10 minutes. Chicken comes out really juicy and nice.

Me either. I never even considered it? I usually do parts only. But the recipe was in the instruction manual and so I am intrigued...

and the whole reason I got the new one was the beans took too long to cook. I did them Sunday so wouldn't have to worry about dinner on WD night and ended up futzing around anyway to get DH fed :D

I would do chuck roast in the crock pot too. With some onions. Always put the meat in frozen. Then just let it cook for hours. Did pork steaks with onions and bbq sauce. I know at least once a week I would use that crock pot!

I have one now too. Usually do my little roasts or beef stew meat. Still favor the convection roaster for chicken. I can have some just cooked and then use the left overs to make something different.

It changes a lot when you cook for one instead of a family!

Made a batch of baked beans in the crock pot last week and corn bread a few nights ago!

Grilled burgers tonight with Cabot Seriously Sharp Cheddar and bacon, pickles and onion...mmmm...heart attack food but so good. Baked beans on the side.

My mother just did a chicken in a crock pot a few weeks ago for the first time. I asked her how it was and she said it was good but the meat just fell off the bones. I won't even bother asking why she used the word "but."

The World Serious starts tonight. I remember when I was young that was a big deal, a really, really big deal..at least where I was. They actually played day games. Now TV, big money demands night games. Double headers were truly double headers...one ticket, two games. Transistor radios brought to school for the games and even some PA announcements over the loud speaker. "Loud speaker" is a strange name for something, don't you think? Its was the national pastime. Most players had to do off season work to get by by selling cars, insurance, whatever. Times change.
