As for what Smurf cooks - the conversation goes like this: 'ok - what is it?' "well in Dutch it's called (insert scrabble hand) and it's minced this and that wrapped with bacon".

'bacon around it yeah? - my good bacon?' "sure - if you like"

'sold' :2cool:

This is a classic technique of evasion and keeping HRH happy - if the 'whatever is in bacon' is crap - then at least i got my good bacon! :p

I just returned from the puppy ER. It seems Earl had to get the last little bit of marrow from his femur bone. In the process of doing so, he managed to get his lower jaw inside the hollow of the bone.

All we heard was a yelp and saw a brown & white blur running by. After getting him calmed down. I discovered he was not in any way inclined to let me get the bone off. The Evil One, always the voice of reason, wouldn't let me try the Benadryl/Dremel option. She has tickets tonight to see Alton someone, a chef from the food channel, in Grand Rapids. Of course this occurred about 5 minutes after our Vet's office closed and we (meaning I) were stuck going to the puppy ER in Kalamazoo (about an hour away). She rode with me to keep Earl calm on the ride over (see voice of reason above) and had her girlfriend follow us to the ER. Once there, it was a 15 minute procedure to get Earl deboned (most of which was me filling out paperwork). I'm happy to report Earl is fine and napping comfortably. They gave him some propythol (sp), the Michael Jackson drug. According to the vet, it knocks them out quick and has a very short recovery time :)

Also, I bought a 14500 Mini Woodvil today :)

Three times I've dealt with something similar. Only in my cases, the dogs had bones and in one event--a stick--stuck across the roof of their mouth. The bones were rib bones and perfectly contoured to wedge across the roof of a big dog's mouth. No vet trip necessary, they displayed their plight sufficiently, so I just reached in and pryed the bone out in each case. I no longer feed bones to my dogs. The possibility of bone slivers, intestinal impaction, etc is more than the nutritional gain is worth IMO. Not saying its wrong to do it, I just have had too many bad experiences related to feeding bones to dogs to justify it.

long ago, before we knew better, our dogs wore chain collars at home. they were playing and the male got the females collar wrapped around his lower jaw. luckily we were home and were able to get him loose. they were both panicking, it was horrible! but they both were fine-and they never wear collars at home anymore.
I will give my dogs RAW bones. they don't splinter, etc like cooked bones, but they are gross :)
back to lurk for me :)
