Wowzer Papaw!!!!! That is tremendous!! Congratuations!! I've been sober a very long time..that and the freedom form the cig addiction is just about heaven-on-earth.

Did someone say garlic! We've been growing our own for a few years. Here it is on the right side of the garden.

I should do that! I bet it tastes better fresh!

Dumb question...do you get seeds or plant cloves?

You plant from cloves but not ones you buy in a store as they will not grow because they have been treated. Planting is done in the fall for next years harvest. It does taste great. We freeze some and dehydrate some and use as much fresh as possible. Its all very simple to grow.

Thirteen years sober and over a year off smokes, I just don't want to give up all my bad habits so I'm not giving up being an ......! Still feel a hell of a lot better though.

+1 on you having pretty dirt, Laurin! I grew up in sand and have now moved to the red clay. Dirt that I buy isn't and nice as yours! Poor little carrots got stuck in the clay and went sideways instead of down. Still tasted great though!

It's sunny and fine here too - which means HRH has gone shopping again! i can hardly contain my excitement to see how much money she "saves" me this week, but my stipulations for dinner tonight are a chicken curry (and even i can make that for under $5) so we'll see.

I realized I valued living and not living in jail!Or the loony bin...which is where I was headed...My last drunk I woke up in the middle of the night cuz my Mom had flung my huge dresser mirror onto the floor..and she'd been dead about thirty years...after I'd passed out from earlier chasing one of my boyfriends all over town with a loaded 38...

I have had much more fun sober

Why did you all stop and what were you like before?

Instant A$$hole - Just Add Alcohol. (And other Substances.) 24/ 7/ 365.
I had trouble eating, sleeping, or staying employed. Family and friends had distanced themselves from me. I was later told some were already waiting for me to be found dead somewhere.
Then I had what some have described as 'A Moment of Clarity'. The next morning I began to seek help. That night I attended my first 'Meeting', and have not found it necessary to drink or drug since.
But More Importantly; I truly Enjoy just being Alive ! I can now hug my wife and kids. I have seven grandkids who have never seen Papaw drink. Every Day is a Blessing. Every Problem is an Opportunity to Grow. And Everyone I meet in the course of my day is a chance to Serve my Lord and Creator, and my Fellow Man. One Day at a Time.
Am I perfect in these things ? No. But I seek Spiritual Progress, not Spiritual Perfection.

I was basically the walking dead as it's put. I had lost everything and was close to committing armed robbery had actually gone to do a few but my conscience got the better of me. I wasn't able to harm anyone. Then a young man a dealer I knew was beaten and tied up and the druggy lit the house on fire. I now work with the dealers mom. Yes he was a dealer but he was a sweet young kid. That and the destruction I was and did to my family was enough to make me decide to change.
