MorninREOville! I just woke up, must have needed the sleep. Karen, thanks for posting the pic of my town, I have to say tho that the City Hall has been quite the controversial building, there are a lot of small old buildings in town that have been restored and the City Hall is huge taking up 1/2 a block, and from the 3rd street side (3rd street is pretty much our "main street") it looks like any old industrial style building, pretty nondescript. The side you posted is pretty, and it's nice to see it.
Jen, lets go with Father's Day, that way it will be a meaningful day for both of us, June 16th, here we come!

As an English American i'd like to say that the display of patriotism and support for the forces here (there are flags all up and down the main street) ought to be a great source of national pride and it's a pity my former countrymen only show the same degree of concern when one dies.
I knew if i had 3 days off Smurf would kick me out of the house and that's how i know these things!

That's one thing I can never understand about the British Trunker, it's as if they're ashamed of servicemen, & I fully applaud you American folk, for honouring your servicemen, not only the fallen, but the way you support the former, & active servicemen

I'm going to put my 2 cents worth here at the risk of being booed....
My younger brother and many friends were vets of the Vietnam "war". I think..hope...that they were part of the catalyst that really made this holiday what it is and what it stands for. There are many men who have suffered many illnesses, including Agent Orange, my brother being one of them...but I'm so happy to tell you that he fought the govmint all these years, went to agonizing lengths to be treated fairly and just last month he finally was awarded full disability.( i guess the bulldog attitude runs in the family) He finally was able to buy a brand new truck instead of driving old beaters and he's in his sixties.
He's finally celebrating this day with a big smile.

I never knew that. Its quite hard to believe considering Britain's rich military history.
One brother, Hubby, FIL, and many other relatives and friends served this country. I thank each and every one of them and everyone else that has or is.
This is good to bring forward. It was with the Vietnam war that we lost some pride in our country. With things like agent orange, the politics of war, which sometimes seem in conflict with the principles that brought us into the conflict, then watergate.
Remembering these things makes Memorial Day even more important, to honor those we've lost. Past mistakes can't be changed, but they can be overcome by making sure they aren't repeated.
