I can't understand why anybody would buy most rewrapped brands, ex. MXJO, Efest, etc...

Its one thing for all of them to embelish Amp ratings, but then nearly all of them besides Orbtronic and maybe AW seem to frequently swich between very different cells under the same wrap, so you can't even trust you'r research to stay relevant.

...Not to mention Mooch over there is always forced to waste his time retesting and updating his lists for the sake of those brands.

Unless you NEED a button top, why would any non-first-timer buy anything other than a factory cell? Why are brands like Efest still respected at all?

Unfortunately, I have two devices that take 18490 button top. I get all AW from RTD. Not many other choices. Other device gets only 25R’s from IMR or Liion.

I suspect the majority of people who purchase re-wrapped batteries have done so from B&M stores. Either on recommendation or through ignorance. No-one can be buying readily available OEM 18650 flat top batteries for a premium just for a fancy wrapper surely ? But then again humanity is an often capricious species....
(I also use 18500 button tops in my tube mods and so have no choice but to buy re-wraps)

The majority of people purchasing rewraps don't know there's even an issue. They order off of eBay and Amazon all the time. The rewrap companies also spend money on marketing, while the big 3 want nothing to do with vaping.

They do, actually, you can get the exact same specs on a button top efest from IMRbatteries, but they don't seem to perform as well, so I did get some vastly inflated in price AW batteries to go along with them. I'm not sure if this is psychological or not, since I don't use puff counters, but the efest button top battery hasn't impressed me that much and if I can bring myself to do it, I'm going to shove an efest in one provari, and an AW in the other, and attempt to alternate them, to see which one lasts longer. Hmmm.... Mooch I am not. :)

Agreed on the purchasing of re-wraps. And my use of the term ignorant was not made in anything but a literal sense. ;)

(Also, whats going on with posts ? Some are showing gobbledogook)

I wonder why the big manufacturers don’t offer 18490 button tops? Not enough demand?
I guess. I use them and 18350 button tops in some of my mechs and flashlights but they are very hard to find. My AWs are good, but beyond eFest and a few other rewrappers, I don’t think I have even seen a LG, Samsung or Sony 18500/490 or 18350.

There is ample info on this board that suggests although the AW IMR 18490 is a “rewrap”, they only use A grade cells from the main manufacturers. The fact that Pro Vape recommended them also helps.
Question: What manufacturers make an 18490 IMR battery?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've never seen LG, Samsung, or Sony sell any. Only AW. Panasonic and Sanyo sell ICR chemistry batteries in 18490/18500 size, but that's the wrong chemistry. better than aw imr 18490s?: FastTech Forums

If AW isn't making them, who is? Efest sells an 18490/500, but its probably a rewrap AW. :sneaky:

I may be one of the few, but I believe that in the last few years AW has been making their own IMR batteries. They were the first to sell IMR batteries back in the day, and are still one of the few companies to sell IMR batteries in 14500, 18350, and 18490 size (I don't think LG, Samsung, or Sony does). The one exception which is probably a rewrap may be the 3000 mAh 20 amp cont AW IMR which states it is made in Korea. (All the other AW cells say they are made in China.) The LG HG2 3000mAh 20 amp cont. is made in Korea.
