MikeP - How do the different materials compare...texture, smoothness, rigidity, finish etc.....

I got three different materials, all three are Nylon, they are listed as

Blue - Polished Strong & Flexible Plastic
Black - Strong & Flexible Plastic
Alumide - Strong & Flexible Plastic

The roughness/texture of the Black and Blue were similar to a #2 pencil eraser.

While the blue was allegedly "polished", and the black was not, I see virtually no difference between it and the black. They both had a flat matte finish with a slightly grainy appearance.

The alumide, while listed as Strong & Flexible Plastic same as the black, had a much courser texture, kind of like the texture of the Bon AO blocks we cut down, or the texture of cast aluminum before it is polished. It was somewhat flexible, and had nice metallic glitter-like glimmer. The alumide material seemed to swell slightly on the face of the bezel. Where the black and blue had a perfectly flat front bezel, the alumide was ever so slightly convex rather than flat. The bezel lip that surrounds the opening was actually about 0.23mm thicker than the black or blue because of this convex effect. Nonetheless it is an attractive metallic appearing material that would compliment other metal features. I think I like it the best of the three.

All three were flexible enough to bow the sides in and did not feel like they were getting ready to break. Nonetheless they were all hard enough to not feel in the least bit fragile.

Other than the glitter effect of the alumide, not were the least bit shiny.

The side by side is far from an ARV (almost ready to vape) like the Tibs line. BJ wants the Tibs line to be basically a drop the DNA in and go, or as close as possible. As well as use off the shelf parts, which the side by side isn't.

No charger in the side by side, I carry a spare 18650 comfortably in my pocket. As well as usually having a second mod very close :D

The bap line is way past 1 :D

Wouldn't it be easier to swap out attys on a mod then a mod for each atty?
Yes, that makes sense. After all, this is "The WeekEnder" thread. I can handle the soldering just fine, it's the parts I'm short on. Battery tube and 510 connection can be pulled of a dead Vamo or cheap clone, the rest is problematic (DNA20 out of stock).

I too carry an extra battery or two with me, I was thinking of using it as a passthrough occasionally.

I've seen at least one other side by side in the Bap line, I just didn't know any used the DNA20... or is this a new development?

I prefer not to remove an atty from a mod unless it needs a new coil or the refill requires it. That, and I have different mods that both look right and work well with certain attys... a genny hybrid with a Kick 2, unregulated mech with a dual coil dripper, "disposable" Vamo with a Protank (vertical coil), Provari with a Fogger/KFL/(soon to be)Taifun, all with completely different e-liquid flavors. That's just my quirk, to each their own. :)

If I could settle down with the DIY mixing and find an ADV or two, the "WeekEnder" just might be for me. No sign of commitment yet.

OK gang, the way I figure it, if I do a DNA co-op the best I can do is test for DOAs myself. I cant really offer DOA spares for a couple reasons. 1) Many people will not build them up right away, 2) I cant count on people to hook them up correctly and not fry them, and co-op participants shouldnt be responsible for another's user error. So my plan would be to test them all myself before sending them out. If participants encountered any problems after that they would need to deal with Evolv directly, and Evolv has a good track record of going above and beyond to take care of people.

So.... I need some ideas of how to test a massive amount of DNAs. Something like what I did on the breadboard in this photo. I would also want to hook up a coil (atty) to the output. That way I could test for power up, resistance reading, and firing in fairly short order.

The problem I have with it is that pins that fit the breadboard are too small to fit the DNA securely. You can see how I had to twist the DNA to get it to make good enough contact to power up, and it was precarious at best.

Any ideas?

So do I understand correctly that the brand spanking new FT TFGT I have just received... is completely UNUSUABLE until I manage to get the replacement SS deck?

I use my two FT TGT's as they are and even ground off the plating in a small place on one of them just to show the brass :D

Where are you getting this "understanding" from?

I use mine stock, no mods or replaced anything, and it is my all day vape. I am loving it.

As I understood a post in the TFGT thread, the ones they sent from FT were made from plated brass which creates the risk of inhalation of not so good stuff.. I thought that the base had to be replaced with the SS one before it could be used? Is the risk minimal enough to allow normal usage until the replacements arrive?

IMHO yes, "for me" the risk is minimal, and far less than inhaling tobacco. Take care not to scratch the chrome plating and the risk is almost zero.

YMMV.

Okay.. I got it set up. 8 wraps of 26ga on a 3/32 bit (just over 2mm dia) with 12 strand hemp thread as a wick, though I did take some of the hemp fiber and used it as a flavor wick over the top of the other one.

Total resistance of 1.1Ω which was deliberate. I have been trying to get my resistance up over one ohm so I could see what the hubub was about. That has been easy enough to do with the kayfuns and the flavor is not missing as I thought it might, excepting one flavor. With the Killa Vanilla, I find that I need more wattage to get the flavor that I want.

I am getting a small amount of gurgling, so I will have to tear it down and adjust the wicking. Anyone know it those o-rings will work on this without modifying the walls? okay.. maybe not such a small amount of gurgling...

with the co-op thread on the verge of being closed let's bring bj's wish list over here

Lets make it complete and add:
Evolv DNA20
510 connecter
Battery contacts
Pretty buttons :D
and bap's masterpieces;)

Maybe we can get Tibs to solder the battery contacts and the connecter to the board for us...;)

with mike intending to test all dnas i'd gladly volunteer to host whatever else is necessary to make this a complete modding package, take delivery, sort and package the individual orders and get them to mike to include with the dnas - provided we get the necessary ok for that.

Simple, you solder the four wires to each board for us. Make them at least 4 inches long, please...:toast:

You can use mine as a test and assemble it completely...:D

Shapeways was very forthcoming about the mix up

A few days ago I have been contacted by a customer who actually received your model instead of the one you received.
There has clearly been a mix up with similar models.
....
Shortly we will offer you a proper solution. Once we decide to re-print this model, you will be informed by email about all the production updates.

The first place it will show up is in the "CoOp Planning and Discussion" forum here:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/coop-planning-discussion/
Thats where we make sure there is enough interest to support a large quantity purchase.

From there it will firm up and turn into a Live CoOp which would be a thread in the "Active CoOps" forum here:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/active-coops/
Active members in the Discussion and Planning thread would be given advance notice (via PM) as to when the Live Co-op would be scheduled to start. I do that because these co-ops often sell out fast, and its only fair to give the people who helped firm up interest the first shot at joining in.

As Tibs pointed out, you wont be able to see either of these threads unless you are a "Verified" member.

I wont open the DNA Co-op Discussion thread until I firm this up more, as in getting firm pricing and availability. I honestly dont see that happening until January sometime. For one thing I am getting ready to fall off the grid for a week so I wouldnt have time to monitor the thread. Plus, the DNA30 has not even been released yet. Dont want to put the cart before the horse.
