I'm not a very fast reader, but I enjoy actually reading. However, I got really into audio books when I was doing data entry. Some of them are really good, it really depends on who is doing the reading. Some of the scifi/fantasy books do full productions with sound effects, like the old radio shows. Some series have really great readers that come to BE the character for you. If I recall correctly, the Kim Harrison books are pretty good on audio, the J.D. Robb Eve Dallas series is great.

Love Kim Harrison, was absolutely bereft when she decided to end the series. :( Love Eve Dallas too -- do you ever watch Rizzoli & Isles? Those are from the Tess Gerritsen novels, but Angie Harmon's Rizzoli, to me, seems to nearly exemplify Eve Dallas, completely UNgirly!

I really have enjoyed my Kindle, highlight the big words I don't know and the dictionary definition pops up. Adjust brightness for time of day and font size. Plus I have like 50 books in my hand at once no need for bookshelves taking up space...that's what vape gear is for. :)

I used to read a lot more about 10-12 years ago when I used to travel for business more often. Having a book at hand was great to kill time when you're stuck on a plane for 5-8 hours for a nonstop flight. Since moving to NY, my need for travel for business dropped to zero since all my business trips were to NY.

I've seen the promos and it looks interesting, but I'd have to start from the beginning. Maybe someday.

I had to finish the last book of the Dark Tower in audio book format. I don't like distractions when I read, so the "look at this" or "what do you think about that", "no really, look, look" made switching to audio books a logical choice. :D I drive 45 minutes each way to work (all controlled access highway) and that is a great time for some excellent storytelling. Closed headphones at home make listening easy too, but I like to keep it for the car. The iPod keeps track of where you left off and you just hit play when you get up onto the flattop.

Like you say the reader makes the whole experience enjoyable or not, some sound like automatons where others like Frank Muller (RIP) brought the stories to life.

The other day I had to go buy a Tool CD at Best Buy cause I keep wearing them out and well Tool isn't into the "new music media" deal. It was hilarious, you could almost hear the *gasps* and feel the stares of confusion, while thinking "people still do that?".

I felt like I just peddled my car up to McDonald's and asked for the brontosaurus burger.

Ah that brings back memories. That song always reminds me of an old girlfriend.....not because she became a centerfold, but because the song was popular and got lots of airplay when we were dating.

Local Walmart has lately offered a huge bin of CDs, $5 -- all kinds of gems in there too... we found a "Best of Three Dog Night" that really brings back my childhood and my husband's adolescence. A Stevie Ray Vaughn we didn't have... Lots of crap mixed in, but you can find some decent stuff, older stuff, too.
