That's easy

(Msat • v^2) / R = (G • Msat • MCentral ) / R^2

Well at least until friction reduces v and G starts to win, then the sat starts descending slowly :)

I hope I didn't just kill Andria

Edit: actually you can demonstrate it with a tennis ball and a string,

Sorry Andria - that just made me giggle.....

@Boden, R = Radius?

O.k. Back to our regularly scheduled vaping program....

I was blessed enough to win last week's MadVapes contest. Premise - PIF. I have a young man whom I've met at the "smoke pit" (since I "can't" vape in my office....)

He smokes RYO, but we've chatted a lot about vaping. He mentioned that he has a pen-style (twist of some sort, I believe) and a ProTank2 and a Nauti Mini. Thanks to the wonderful peeps at MadVapes, my buddy is getting a new box mod and a boat-load of juices.

I'm excited for him - he says he's down to about 4 smokes a day, and getting very close to being DONE.....

Lift him up for me - I want to see him succeed. I've been very blessed (almost 17 months now!), and I'm so thrilled that MadVapes has given me the ability to help this young man out.

Yes, I think that was part of his idea about "free electricity." Can't be having that, the fatcats can't profit from it.

I like these EMCs for electricity -- sometimes we get checks back from them, based on profits.

Andria
Apparently the first tower he built to transmit electricity still stands out on Long Island. On the History Channel show, Modern Marvels, that discussed Tesla and his achievements, they actually demonstrated that over the air transmission of electricity works, but it is very low powered, just powerful enough to light up a fluorescent bulb.

Not sure how they did it, but my ex used to light up one of the fluorescent bulbs from his shop (the 3ft tube type) using nothing but radio waves from a 2-way radio transmitter. Freaked a lot of people out when he did that LOL

So sad that his free electricity idea was buried. I'm sure it would have been useful, even if not completely replacing other methods, at least reducing the need for them (especially nuclear - gad, how dumb is that?)

Apparently some Japanese researchers have been studying wireless transmission using microwaves. Yeah, that will go over well. It's bad enough when people complain about power lines being put up near their homes because they don't want to live close to strong electromagnetic fields.

I would think microwaves would go over better than nuclear ON THE RING OF FIRE!!

Sometimes I think we humans deserve to be extinct. Ok, just the politicians. LOL.

:)

I actually did it without math. The satellite falls due to gravity like normal when you drop something, but moves forward at the same time and the two cancel out keeping it at the same altitude. I thought that was pretty easy to see, but my 'pupil' didn't agree and insisted it didn't make sense.

She was a very good mother though ;)

I thought it was actually gravity that kept it up there going round and round, instead of flying off into space.

You are absolutely right Andria :). Gravity makes it drop towards earth just like when we drop something, but it's moving forward in a straight line fast enough to cancel out any reduction in altitude.

It's really simple once the concept is understood, but until then it's 'magic' ;)

Makes sense to me. Physics concepts, I mostly don't have a problem with (except the one about 'closed space', that just bends my mind); it's those damn numbers and treating the alphabet like numbers that gives me the screaming mimis.

But that sort of "general grasp" applies only to "Newtonian" type physics; this quantum stuff kinda bends my mind too. :w00t:

I was thinking of this quite idly while standing there doing the dishes, and a term came to me that I must have encountered in my *very* layman's-oriented reading about physics -- angular momentum -- so I looked it up, and yes, it's apparently the balance between the object's speed and the gravitational "fall", which keeps it moving around the earth rather than a) falling to Earth or b) flying off in a straight line from Earth.

See, being a math idiot doesn't mean I'm a TOTAL idiot. Non-math-idiots can apparently figure the angular velocity, given sufficient constants for the other aspects, but I make do with knowing that angular momentum is what keeps it happening. :D

There are no idiots here. We all have strengths and that's a great thing. I think a lot depends on how well we can visualize stuff. Math is a the ultimate way to define things completely, but I think it's not necessary to understand them. In this case you don't have to know the formula that describes an orbit, you just need to understand how it all works to 'get it' :)

And to get things back on track, I just mixed up a new batch of my fave juice. Added slightly more lemon to it and I'll see how that goes for the next couple of weeks. Sometimes I feel my recipes just go around in circles. A bit more of this one time and a bit less of another ingredient the next time until it all repeats.

I think I seriously need to get out more :2cool:

Yeah I went back to "the original" on my strawberry & cream this time, because I had been reducing the flavoring percentages, but found I was missing some of the "custardy" flavor in the reduced version. Today my tastebuds have been on strike or something, not tasting anything really well or accurately, but as Scarlet once said... tomorrow is another day. :D My bouts with the infamous vaper's tongue never seem to last longer than that, I'm usually back to normal tasting by the next day.

But I really need to do some experimenting, see if I can strike gold with another flavor as I did with this one. And it appears that my body may be telling me that it would like another reduction in nicotine, I've had the damn hiccups twice tonight. :-x No other symptoms, thank goodness, but hiccups are so damn annoying, they're quite bad enough.

I been on a single flavor kick these last few months. Was doing a bunch of tobacco reviews in the DIY section and seen how great many flavors are as a stand alone and been stuck doing it that way for a while now. Vanilla's, Butterscotch’s, Mango, Tangerine. The most complex juice I mixed up in the last couple of months is when I added a touch of vanilla to some cherry cuban cigar flavor. :)

I think I seriously need to get out more :2cool:

Dont do it, it is crazy out there!!! Then someone starts screaming and they come at you with that real ugly jacket with the looong sleeves and buckles in the back.... save yourself, dont do it! :w00t:

So I found my brass kraken (Hcigar brand)... Had to go online, but the vendor is in Cali, so shipping should be quick for me....cost $22.95 after shipping (and CA sales tax :/).
Sent with one hand, the other is busy vaping.

Excellent!! So we'll see some pics soon, of your brass Kraken with your SXK? Is a Kraken one of those genny things?
