Trivia for the day:
The dude they call Jesus.. His name was Yeshua
Pronounced: yea-SHU-ah
Just to add to your fun and games, Yeshua, if translated directly, would be Joshua, but they already had a biblical hero with than name. Many of Yeshua's friends, however, called him Yesu (nickname?) and when the Roman's got hold of that one, to pronounce it (Yea-soo) and not having a Y in Latin, but the J had a Y sound, so he became Jesu (still pronounced Yea-soo). Most of those languages require proper endings, so I think it was the Spanish who tacked the extra s on the end, making it Hey-soos, but when that name got to Albion (England), and they have never been able to pronounce anyone else's words correctly, they decided it was Gee-suz.

EDIT: It was the Greeks, not the Spanish.

The Greeks added the s on the end as a masculine consonant.

Thanks, Boden. I knew it was one of those cultures, and I should have thought of them first, given that they were the ruling government in Yeshua's area anyway. Romans to the south, Greeks to the north...
