Those Kuros are the bees knees are they not?!? Love mine.
It was funny, I ordered a Coilmaster V2 set, but had it shipped to the wrong address a 3 hour drive away, not to be seen for another month or two. So I got the 3mm Kuro clone from MFS when I happened to place an order with them shortly after. I was annoyed that that was the only size they carried because I was building more to a 2.5mm max before that. But I used it anyway, and I liked the ease of coiling. I rarely get overlap and only when I'm in a hurry and not careful. I recently got hold of my coilmaster set but haven't tried it yet. I've also had good results with those larger 3mm coils, and they are easier to wick.

Haven't noticed any problems with jeans rivets, though it's been many years since I would willingly wear them (the middle-aged lady's belly isn't very comfy in pants that don't "give"!). :D But I don't recall any problems... and I've never been much of a belt wearer, unless it was something "decorative" for some outfit. But I recall my HS class ring... 10k gold... everytime I took it off, a black ring all around my finger. And those glasses... I looked like a raccoon and didn't even realize it! After that I went to smaller frames that didn't rub against my face.

I did not get my nickel allergy until I was 50 or so. It took years to figure it out because it blind sided me. A good thing for older people to keep in mind, I guess.

I believe you are confusing nickel allergy with Bubonic Plague

You may be more sensitive than I am. I just get welts that get very nasty after a week or two if I don't suck it up and pay $40 for a cheap (but supposedly nickel-free) belt. Do you get rashes from belt buckles or jeans rivets? I'm not sure about sunglasses and eyeglasses because I usually wear contacts. And no piercings. Piercings could get a lot nastier since belt buckles don't usually sit on skin all the time.

Anyway, back on topic... your Ti wire is $0.25/foot, where I'm used to paying about $0.06 for Kanthal but I could live with that price. I'll make it up in less cotton :)

Anyone have other recommendations for Ti gauge for a single starter setup? At 10 bucks I'd like to buy once and live with it if possible.
I would suggest 28 or 26 gauge

You just don't put much pressure on it while turning..That's how I learned it wouldn't overlap..The Kuro is much cheaper and yes,..I also use the Kuro CW25..I didn't gauge it but just assumed it was 2.5mm which is PERFECT for me using the 2mm air flow hole on the Atomic. :)

The perfect Modwomping atty imo. ;)

I guess I'm living a sheltered life. I hadn't seen these before. [emoji38]
Hopefully their juice is better than their horrible RYO tobacco!!

Like a clutz today I knocked my IPV4 over and it shattered the glass on my subtank mini. Thats 2 tanks in just a couple days :(

So I was sitting here and eyeballing the Ego one mega tank that came with my Evic and decided to give it a try. Huge disappointment. Set at 420 F 30 J's and no flavor. Turn it up to 500 F and burnt taste. Back down to 400 and still taste burnt. Not recommended at all.

Ya know I've heard rumblings on the interwebs that you can toss a Reo off a balcony and still vape it.

The thing about flavor... still not getting quite as much from this TC setup as I get from my standard kanthal setup, despite that both are using identical atties. I'm wondering if wrapping the coil using just 6 wraps instead of 7 would make that much difference, giving me a *sharper* flavor as the kanthal does? Or should I go with 26ga and use *more* wraps? Is there anything else I might try, to bring out more of the flavor? I'm at 390F, and it's producing a quantity of vapor beyond which I don't think I can comfortably go, nor could I really deal with much more TH.

Could it be that perhaps I didn't get the wire clean enough? I washed it with dish soap, rinsed in hot water, then in filtered water, wiped it down with alcohol, rinsed again in filtered water -- if that didn't clean it, I'm not sure what would, and when I wiped it with alcohol, I saw nothing coming off it onto the cotton pad I used.

The analogy that comes to mind for what I'm experiencing is somewhat like the difference I vaguely perceived when I first began listening to music on a CD player as opposed to a phonograph, or something like the "loudness equalization" setting I find in this new Windows' sound system setup -- as if the sharper peaks are smoothed into more uniformity with the whole. It's a subtle enough difference that without a side-by-side comparison, I'm not sure it would be a really glaring difference, but this morning while I let the Evic charge, I used the kanthal-coiled Achilles on the CF4, and there really is a difference. Just not sure how I might address it. The Ti1 and kanthal coils are both wrapped around a 3/32 drillbit, and wicked identically with Shiseido organic cotton (which I prefer to KGD).

Any feedback or suggestions would be more than welcome.

My guess here...... It's because ti wire transfers less flavor..... Ergo smoother vape..... You are actually tasting the kanthal a bit. You could try and mix a small batch of juice using slightly higher percentages, see how that does ya

Hmm, that's a possibility; I had slightly reduced the flavoring in my strawberry & cream because of the terrible gunking, but now that I'm using the Achilles pretty much exclusively, it's not that big an issue -- even if some juice at the botton of the well darkens from the gunk, at most I'm wasting a few drops rather than a ml or two in the kayfuns. So I could try just going back to my original recipe.

ETA: do you think it would help if I made the Ti coil slightly fatter, 7/64 instead of 3/32? So there would be more wick, and thus more juice, actually in the coil?

If you wanted more vapor yes, but that's not your goal :p

I have a ni allergy, but I get a nasty, oozing rash that looks like welts (like poison ivy).

Ti wire summary for the non mathematians/scientists:

1. Clean it.
2. Either don't heat it, or heat very low until gold to blue.
3. White or gray may produce tio2, which is known to be toxic. Are we inhaling enough particles for it to be a problem? No one knows, but safer not to use it. And don't scrape it either as it puts particles airborne. If the wire has been overheated to get those colors, toss it.

That pretty much sums it up, folks :). Don't be afraid of it.

I'm starting to think it might just be a case of breaking in the new coil; it seems a bit better tonight. Since this is all new to me, I hadn't given a lot of thought to the break-in of the coil itself; with kanthal, the bigger problem always seemed to be a new wick's break-in, but with the Achilles, as I mentioned, it isn't nearly as big a problem, none of that spluttering business, just a faint taste of cotton for 3-5 hits.

So maybe the flavor improves as the coil breaks in.

Wick is still breaking in, flavor wise, you just aren't experiencing the wicking issues fresh cotton can give in a tank :p

Seems to me you really need a metal atty. :D That's exactly the reason I made myself learn to deal with metal driptips, I got tired of breaking the stupid things!

Usually I am not that much of a clutz but yesterday I went to pick up both an IPV4 and an IPV2 by the tanks attached to them with one hand and the IPV2 had my patriot on it so of course the top pulls off and I dropped both of them. On the bright side of things, my vapemail with the lemo's Pyrex glass shows up today. The replacement glass for the subtank should be here by Saturday and it is also Pyrex and plastic is a lot more durable than glass.
