Subjective I know, but I've always found dc to dc a better vape...pwm gives a punch/harshness to the vape for me, that's hard to quantify.
The pwm in the SX is why I like the Mini over any other TC mods . I think it regulates the temp better, quicker and gives a better hit. Doesn't have any harshness as it has a temp limit.I'm over my desire for an sx mini, once I learned it regulated in pwm for tc

If the TC is working properly how it get to temp should have no effect. If the mod doesn't spike and go over temp, or not supply enough power to maintain temp when you take a toot...the waveform it uses to do it is somewhat immaterial.
Thats why I am liking the Xpro M80 plus more and more. I did read that it is using an algorithm for temp control but so what. I am running a Kanthal coil in my Lemo II and so far twice I went bone dry twice and no dry hit. To me thats the whole purpose of temp control, to stop the dry hits. I dont care how it is doing it, all I care is that it is doing it.
They had a lot of problems with the M80 when it first came out yet since the last upgrade in May, all chatter about it totally ceased. Google after Google shows tons of stuff on it from February to May and then hardly anything. When I get time, maybe tonight at work I am going to put an RDA on mine and see how many dry hits I get from it from normal vaping. Being newish to dripping I still get a lot of dry hits for I havent developed being able to tell yet when I need to drip. I am getting there but still have many dry hits. If the M80 helps with that it will be worth its weight in gold to me.
That actually does sound promising; I really don't care *how* a mod does temp control, if it works. If it's possible to do that with kanthal, I'm more interested; I can't use nickel because of sensitivity, and I discovered that I don't care for the taste, when titanium is used, plus all my issues with my super-gunker juice. And I like Smoktech mods, though their attys leave much to be desired. You have my attention!

That's why I said its a subjective thing, and hard to quantify.... Even more accurate pwm mods have a quality to the vape that I find less pleasant then straight dc to dc (I also get this from a dc to dc mod with an overly "dirty" signal). Not knocking the device, just not for me.If the TC is working properly how it get to temp should have no effect. I'd be more accepting of the m80 if they were open/up front about what it was.....calling it a kanthal tc device is false advertising

There is a con to the M80 pro that should be mentioned. I tried a few time to run my tanks with Ni200 coils in them. My Evic VT will run them, my IPV4's will run them but the M80 Plus says check atomizer. They usually are built to around .08 ohms and mine wont let me go that low.

Not a con for me, since I will never be using nickel.

But thats just it, I am running a kanthal coil, in temp mode. I am set for 80 watts but it has never gone above 35 watts that I seen. The temp stays constant thru the vape and it prevented dry hits after running the tank empty. Does that not make it a kanthal TC device?
I googled "smoktech M80" and came up with an "M80plus" -- what's the significance of the "plus"?
I like the weight of it, only 6oz!
