I've got a secret I thought I'd share with y'all. Since most of you are coil builders this seems like a good spot to beta test this.

This is something I've been working on for about three weeks. I was pondering airflow and coil geometry. Most of the cooling happens on one side of the coil the other side is in a shadow. I have a few other ideas to deal with this but they only work with nickel coils... more on that later.

Introducing "Bodens Bow Coil" *patent pending* ;)

It is a contact coil near the air port and a spaced coil on top. The two outer wraps are spaced slightly on the airflow side.

I was running this one with cotton, It was quite good.

This one is wicked with Rayon. Even better.

I think I'm on to something, I would appreciate it if y'all would give it a try and let me know what you think. :)

Did you use any particular tool to get it curved just right? I could see trying this; I always build my coils high, for max TH, so the top of the bow could reach the same level as my current flat coils. I'm thinking it could facilitate better wicking, because of it being curved instead of a 90 degree angle into the coil.

I did try it out.... Other then leaking like crazy through the crack, works great
Sent with one hand, the other is busy vaping.

Glass vs plastic. Glass does have one disadvantage. But may advantages too.
The package had zero signs of damage..... This was shipped out this way. I was so happy to find a California vendor with good prices.... But whether or not I will ever use them again will depend on how they handle this

Sorry to hear it. :( Reminds me of my lemo II. Very first time I take it apart, the glass cracks. Buy a new one and that also cracked putting it together.

I'm just waiting to hear if he needed a special tool to get it shaped like that. And I thought of another question: does the shape have any impact on the resistance?

Tonight while diligently earning my pay, and out of boredom, I decided to experiment. Took some 29 kanthal and twisted a 3 foot section together. As an aircraft mechanic, we have to do a lot of safeties where we use wire, twist it to and anchor and then twist the end to prevent a bolt or hose fitting from backing off. So I grabbed my handy dandy safety wire pliers and twisted the double strands of 29 kanthal together to the breaking point. Then I took this twisted wire and made two 3mm 6 twist coils for my mutation clone. Set the coils high so they are in the airflow, checked the ohms and it was at .49 ohms. Wicked it, saturated the wick and put it together. Placed it on my IPV4, set it to 100 watts and gave it a try......holy moly, what a vape. Flavor explosion of unreal proportions and instant fog machine!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not a cloud chaser, dont wanna be one either. My lungs after 40 years of smoking do not have the capacity for it. But I dont mind impressive clouds either. The flavor is whats so unreal to me. I usually drip either a sweet mango or a Vanilla Custard and this vape was like tasting a spoon full of custard. It was that good!!! So as an encore I took some 24 Kanthal and twisted it to the breaking point. Its as thin as 28 ga now and before long will try a dual coil with that to see how well it vapes.

Now for those of yall with more experience than me, if I took the 24 twisted wire and did like 8 or 10 wraps per coil, think it would give me better flavor? I know it will be higher ohms but am not overly worried about that, but it has always been my experience the lower the ohms the hotter and more flavorful the vape.

don't know if he used a tool, but it wouldn't be required... Just wrap normally, pull off the bit and curve by hand by attaching one leg and bending the other one down to the other post... It's essentially a spring so it should take that shape naturally..
And no the shape won't alter the resistance... Though of the wraps at the bottom are touching, it could make the resistance reading be off a bit :p

It also has a high chance of not heating up correctly. There is a reason for dry firing a coil and squeezing it together, so it heats from the center out.

Next you will be trying Clapton coils :p

On a higher powered regulated mod, more wraps can indeed give you a better vape.... You will also be atomizing more liquid at once so more vapor, but I wouldn't expect a big increase in flavor :p

Not a big worry if the coils are all spaced

As boden said, at the bottom its a contact coil, at the top its a spaced coil. Dont get me wrong, its as cool as can be, Im just not sure how the performance of it will be, especially after a few tanks.

I just mounted it like a normal contact coil then took a hex driver and lifted it from the bottom while using a small flat head to space out the top.

It heats from the bottom middle and spreads out from there. I'll make a slow motion video in a bit. (After breakfast)
