New York (no, not the city)
That the one in Colanie?? Was looking at a couple that way but ended up across the river again in Beacon. Smokers Mecca was the name. Huge selection. Normal prices. Beacon is a massive dump of a town and this is right in the middle. Bought a Starre Pro.

Really pushing my vape luck with the wife but stopped in Herkimer also at Deep Vapors.

Great vapecation but was happy to get west of Albany. Downstate is a little intense for me.
Yeah, 51Vape is in Colonie I guess. Some of the townships around Albany kind of run into each other for me.

And did you really just call Beacon a dump?? It's a lovely town, believe me. I've lived there a few times, and wish to go back once I have the means. I've been in Smokers Mecca but never bought anything yet.

I guess Upstate is a subjective thing; I always say "Upstate begins where Metro-North ends" and I'm just above Poughkeepsie.

Newburgh has the reputation of coarse but honestly I've always stayed on 300 and it seems nice. But one hears stories. Beacon I've only crossed the bridge and parked at the train station and it seemed nice enough. Yesterday going to Downtown was pretty disgusting. Reminded me of Syracuse. If you like Beacon you could buy a house in Syracuse for 1/10th the cost.

I also have heard all the "Upstate" lines. From Yonkers to Albany. For me because of the iron fist NYC and Albany keep us under up here I'd say West and North of Albany.

Random thoughts an TC.

Not a fan. Wasn't even actually interested but had pre-ordered a IPV4 and got it as a bonus.

So I played abit. Liked it some but not a ton. None of the things it "corrects" like dry hits and burning have been problems for me. That said it offered other advantages like a very mellow vape which I do like.

I hate working with nickel wire. I hate anything below 26ga and nickel is really soft. Like making coils with fishing line. I also hate single coil tanks and dual nickel is a true joy.

Premade nickel coils work pretty well for me. I don't use many so cost is a non-issue. Finding a TC tank I like was not without cost. People I know make fun of me buying tanks and wasting money but they go out drinking on Friday night and for what I spend on a STM they get a headache and a STD.

Then came the iStick TC. This works much better then the IPV but still not my thing.

Now comes the SX. This is where things get interesting. The SX is TC done right. For the first time I'm really enjoying TC. I don't like long slow draws, I like quick blasts, but TC kinda allows slow better then fast. The SX at 30J and 390 degrees gives almost exactly the same effect as my P=Thingie with half the nic and half the flavoring. But..................................

The SX also has settings for kanthal. Powerful+, Powerful, standard, soft and eco. Now this is NOT TC!!! I would never say this in the general forum as people would cry there eyes out. For purposes of this thread I shall call it mudwomper TC or MWTC for short.

MWTC is hard to describe, its a computer thing. But the chip works a special magic on the kanthal. The SX uses less power to achieve the same goal and then the settings work within that frame work. Say a Chutulu that runs sweetly at 30w on all mods will run at 25w on the SX. So now she's firing nicely at 25w/standard but just missing that little bit. 25w powerful is closer. Hit 25w P+ or whatever. Super smooth vape.

So the irony is that the mod that perfected TC makes it irreverent.

So chucking huge flavorful cloudz the Starre Pro at 60w is a beast. Had to cut my nic down to 3 from 6 for this honey. Filling is easy on this unit which is good cause it needs to be down often.

I experimented with TC in a DNA40 mod and a DNA40 clone earlier this year. I normally vape RDAs, but I bought a Lemo specifically to try out TC with because I never get dry hits with a dripper. I did a couple of nickel builds on it clamping the wire under the screw heads and I didn't like it either so I switched to titanium and found that much easier to work with.

It didn't take long to figure out the quirks of the DNA40 and eliminate dry hits consistently. Then I played around with different ways to set things up. I realized that if I wanted to vape a wire temperature I would have to make sure the wick didn't wick so fast that the wire was soaked all the time, or I would not be able to control wire temp. It just wouldn't get hot enough unless I turned down the temp setting so low I didn't like the vape. In effect, I had to make an inefficient wick to let my 40 watts get the wire hot enough so TC would kick in and keep the temp there. I found that when I did that and was actually temperature limited the vape was not as consistent or as easy to control as when the system was power limited. I experimented with that for a few days and went back to being power limited and just used TC to stop dry hits.

After that I set up two Mutation X rdas, one with Kanthal and one for TC and vaped them alternately on two mods. I tried a whack of different coils, different resistances with titanium, Kanthal/titanium and Kanthal/nickel. I could get them all to work well if I set them up right. After a few weeks I decided there was no advantage for me in using TC other than avoiding dry hits and went back to Kanthal. I like Kanthal ;)

You said you liked the very mellow vape you could get with TC. From my experience I don't understand what TC has to do with that. Seems to me you could get that by simply vaping less power, though you would have to be more careful to chose the right wire gauge to avoid long heat up times. Or maybe I just didn't get it when I was working with TC :)

The SX with MWTC is interesting. Sounds like it may be using programmed power curves, maybe more power at first and then it eases off? Very interesting times in vape-land these days :thumb:

That is like the Smok M80 plus. It is TCing with a kanthal coil even with everyone claiming it is impossible because it will burn a dry piece of wick. I can set the vape for 400f and 50 watts. Put a subtank on it with a 24 kanthal coil and watch it while vaping. The wattage is varying around 30 watts to maintain the 400 F setting.
When TC first came out I was all for trying it. Now that I tried it, im not a huge fan of it. Ni and Ti just seems to give a mutted muddled flavor vape that I am not a fan of yet the Smok M80 gives a good crisp vape with a Kanthal coil kinda like your SX seems to be doing.

You're just making that SX even more attractive to me. :D Someone recently said they saw a sale price on it about $139, still not in my neck of the woods but definitely coming down! Maybe sometime next year.

I been doing research for you this afternoon.

Got a STM with 1.6Ω build on it. 15w. Built with the P-thingie in mind it worked but not awesome. On the SX its a very nice vape. It handles low power very well. Whats that called, buck?? At any rate its very good.

SX is sitting next to the CF in front of me. Size is roughly the same with the SX slightly larger. Weight is close, I don't have a triple-beam handy. Don't a huge differance but the SX is heavier for sure.

The Evic-VT feels like a brick -- I thought the CF4 was heavy till I got the Evic!

Andria
No this is a brick... A buddy has one and it's about 16 oz all loaded up with an Aero tank, battery and juice. :D
