@Boden, I tried a 30g parallel coil on my Velocity. Landed at 1.44 on my meter.

Who says only sub-ohms can chase clouds?
Nice :D

Its strange, people will throw silly amps at a build but tell them they can use 6-11V (if the mod will push it) and its like you just asked them to jump off a cliff.

I understand that thick wire is easier to work with which explains why most use it. I just don't understand why people looking for high performance use it.
The physics of a high performance contact coil is simple, cover as much wick with wire as possible, have lots of venting to let vapor get through the coil and keep mass as low as possible. Basically, lots of wraps of small wire in parallel.

Thinking about vapor venting between the wraps helped me to understand what the Clapton wire does. The flavor diference over a solid wire of the same diameter is because the vapor can get away from the coil faster because of all the little slots created between the wraps.

This explaned why I was noticing a big flavor diference when using a 24/32 Clapton vs. 24 gauge, the Clapton was better. But when I compared 30/38 Clapton to a 30 gauge parellel coil there was a loss of flavor and vapor with the Clapton because of the added mass but not much added coil venting.

I don't under stand science and stuff but I understand results.

Trail and error over math as it were.

And todays stuff is a tinkers dream.

Current two play pretties are two STM's with the RBA. One with a spaced 24ga .5Ω coil and one with a 28ga contact coil at 1.5Ω. Hitting both at 30w.

Just about the same vape off each even though they are completely different. Just fascinates me to no end.

Makes sense, both coils are producing 30W of heat. The diference in geometry has a relatively small effect.

Do you build your own coils?

Own a gun?

Enjoy Black Sabbath?

If you answered yes or no to any of these questions... Welcome :D
I'm noy sure whether I'm a modwomper or tootle puffer. I do enjoy a nice cliud every once in a while.

I don't have a gun, but I've used a rifle earlier

I don't build my own coils, but I do replace the wicks and dryburn etc..

I've listened to Black Sabbath since I was newborn.

I'm womping/tootling at 12-14watts

I wanna try some different twisted builds soon, waiting on more wire to arrive.. Have you ever used Kanthal and Nichrome twisted?

My mistake! Thought I saw you post some twisted builds, but now I remember they were parallel builds?
I did some twisted builds but they suck to vape on. I make a lot of art coils for fun that look like this.

But they don't vape very well.

What I use just replaced that fused 30/36 Clapton. A triple parellel 32 gauge 13/12 wrap, 2.5mm Id, 0.9 ohm build.

I seen some Velocity love out in the unwashed part of the forum.

I gotta agree.

It was born to bottom feed. I am still rockin the basic single coil. And that mutha chucks.

Keep meanin to put dual verticals in it but can't set it down long enough.

Can't see trusting a mech to leave the house with though. Battery life is pretty poor. And having my vape get weaker is annoying.

Keeping my eye on the Steam Crave squonker.

The steam Crave Squonker is nice but its still just one 18650 in it so battery life wont be any better.

I have to put my vaping budget on a leash for a few weeks. Thinking seriously of spending $1500 on a rifle so will have to be content with the vape gear I have for a lil while :)

The rifle will come in handy after the FDA decides that vapers are criminals. :D I'm really glad my husband bought some buckshot. ;)

Can't blame you there, I have a few rifles that cost around 3k at the time!! :)

Couple of weeks ago I got an EHPro Kayfun Lite + v2, with 1 air control screw in the base. Wound a 2 Ohm coil and wicked it. Using 20pg/80vg unflavored at 3mg/ml. Really works fine, but a bit tight on air. I have the afc screw out as far as possible without it possibly sticking and catching on my mod top.

Is there a way to get more air in?
