Don, You are a truly gifted story teller! I enjoyed parts one and two and went looking for part 3! I loved all the comparision pictures. I get confused about how big this one is compared to that one. I have been sending people to Elendil's thread, but the pictures have become so spaced apart due to comments, it's hard to navigate. Like yours, it should have been closed.
Your pics made me laugh. As did your singing.:p
I would however like to see a section devoted to the various mods. I didn't see my beloved NicoStick. Nicowolf opened the door for the modders who don't have the tools and expertise of a manufactuer.
Thank you very much!
Oh, you may have solved my picture problem! I am losing pictures here and there too. (not in your threads)

Sorry my wording wasn't the same as my thinking in that post. You're idea is spot on. I was thinking "first stop" instead of "one stop shop".

Like: "Are you new to e-cigarettes? Got questions? It's probably answered here!"

You have virtually quoted the description of the entire New Members' Forum: "New to E-smoking with plenty of questions? I'll bet! Please feel free to ask them in this forum" (shown on the top of every page of that forum).

My series is one of the pieces of that overall effort.

Oh boy! Time to take a break from working on Part 3 to respond to these neat, head-swelling posts!

Don, i'm lovin it!! I only wish this were up when i first started vaping!

Awesome job!

And i love your choice of pictures, they make it so entertaining and yet informative at the same time :D

Wow! That feels goood! Such praise gives me the fuel to continue the work on the series.

[In addition, I hope no one reading this will hesitate to offer "constructive" feedback, e.g., You should have done this. What do you mean by that? Why did you leave out my favorite...? You're incorrect when you say...]

As for: "I only wish this were up when i first started vaping!" – That is precisely my intent: to provide that somewhat organized overview I wish I had had four months ago ... and which is so satisfying for me to offer to others now.

In an earlier post in this thread, I made a teasing remark about not being paid for this. I was wrong. You, and others here, are paying me in full!

Thank you, dragonpuff!

excellent job Don !! (kept to a minimum)

Thanks, Some Guy! Not sure what you mean by: "kept to a minimum."
  1. You think the series is minimalistic, and you like that (or don't)?
  2. I'm getting a bit long-winded and should cut back a bit?
  3. The humor (or pictures) are nice, but don't go overboard?
  4. Or what?
Don, it was good when the pictures didn't work. But now that all the pictures are up, well.... it's just really purdy........:thumb:

Thanks Ez ... and thanks for your patience! You were one of the people I must have driven crazy with my protestations: Looks fine to me.

I was really frustrated when I learned that you and others couldn't see the photos. I do claim this to be an illustrated guide, after all. In my other life, I am a management trainer, using lots of graphics to spice up the presentation: providing visual impact, occasional comic relief, and concrete examples of the verbiage. I adhere to the maxim that "a picture is worth a thousand words" (although that might be a bit of an exageration; according to my calculations, a picture's worth, on average, is 329.2 words;-)).

As for how purdy they are, I hope everyone realizes that I did not create the photos used, I stole them and pasted them together. [I will take credit for tracking them down.]

Don, You are a truly gifted story teller! ... Your pics made me laugh. As did your singing.:p)

My head is swelling again. My goodness, how do I sufficiently express appreciation for that. "Thank you" just doesn't cut it. I just hope you can imagine the impact such statements would have.

J.K. Rowlings, watch out!:D [Don't worry, my head hasn't swelled that much.]

Speaking of pictures, I see that you've changed the one used for your avatar, MaryKay. Perhaps even more than your previous one, this photo projects you as the warm and generous person your over 2,500 posts have proven you to be.

Putting a sincere and literal slant on yor "singing" reference: one of the benefits of vaping (over smoking) for me is that my singing voice is starting to come back. A long time ago, I used to have a pretty good one.

I would however like to see a section devoted to the various mods. I didn't see my beloved NicoStick. Nicowolf opened the door for the modders who don't have the tools and expertise of a manufactuer.

Patience, patience. Check the TOC: we'll be covering Mods in Part 6 ... and I included the NicoStick (photo and tribute similar to yours) even in the first draft.

Oh, you may have solved my picture problem! I am losing pictures here and there too. (not in your threads)

If you mean pictures being omitted from your own posts, it could be: the 15 pic max ... authorizations required by the folder from which it is linked ... or the mysterious spirit which haunts the Internet. And aren't you a Moderator? If so, you hold special powers we mere mortals don't possess. You can do and see things invisible to our naked eyes.

What helped me track it down (based on the feedback that Ez and others were providing) was logging out of ECF (which I never do otherwise) and looking at my post as "guest" rather than "DonDaBoomVape."

Thank you very much!

Right back at ya!

Thank you Dea and AngusATAT! Such positive feedback keeps me going on this never-ending* project. [I've just finished my offline work on Part 3 and hope to have it posted (yet another set of challenges for this graphic intensive monster*) within the next couple days.

* I've been feeling like Mickey Mouse in the Sorcerer's Apprentice: my God, what have I unleashed here?! :)

Don

Tonight I posted about my recent experience while at my VFW Post, and all the questions I got about my PV. The folks there were so interested that they've asked my to do a seminar on e cigs, to be held at the Post meeting hall. I was thinking about the daunting task of putting together some sort of material with all the info on it (we don't have any type of multi-media capability at the Post, so the seminar can't use slides, video, etc., but I can do hand-outs).

Would you object if I use parts if your presentation (with proper credit, of course)? You've hit every topic I wanted to explain much more succinctly (and with more humor!) than I ever could! Thanks!

You know, I wouldn't let most people get away with that crack.

However, considering all the work you just put in (entering my finicky edits to Part 1), I'll give you a pass. You have earned the right to be demanding.:thumb:

Thanks, Sun!:)

rocketvapor,

I would not object. You certainly may use it ... short of submitting it to a book or magazine publisher*.:D

As for attribution, I think that "Electronic Cigarette Forum, www.e-cigarette-forum.com" would be more meaningful to such an audience. Somehow, "DonDaBoomVape" (not my real name, you know;-)) - outside of ECF circles - sounds a bit strange. And, really, in many ways, the guide is a product of ECF and so many of its members: 90% of the information and videos in it (and some of the pictures) come from here.

* [If I ever submit the guide for publication outside of ECF (and I've been thinking about it), I'm going to need to get lots of permissions and releases.]

Three suggestions:
  1. If you PM me with your email address, I'll send you the MS Word version for you to tweak for your audience: eliminating or converting links and ECF-insider commentary, etc.
  2. Customize the handout. Ask yourself: What would this group of people be most interested in ... and what would just overwhelm them with details they're not yet ready for?
  3. Personalize your verbal presentation: What drew you to e-cigs? What has your journey been like thus far: the good, the bad, and the funny? And include a show-and-tell/vaping demo.
Thanks for asking, rocketvapor! [Both for the courtesy you've shown in doing so ... and for the implicit compliment.]

BTW, I love your avatar! I'm a sucker for the dramatic (and gorgeous photos/renderings).

Thank you, Kate33! I especially appreciate the "funny" comment.

I spent far too much of my life working *in* corporations (where whatever sense of humor I have was neither appreciated nor encouraged). [The past few years, I've provided some consulting *to* corporations (and govt. agencies). That "in" vs. "to" makes a difference. And I've been doing some writing (nonfiction).

Gradually, I've been regaining my "self" and (along with it) my funny bone. Even more than that, however, just hanging out here in ECF (the only forum of any kind, in which I've ever participated) has been a liberating experience. I've let my hair down and taken some emotional risks ... and it seems to be paying off (after only 4 months).

All of that is way off-topic, but what the hay, I started this thread (and I think I'm one of the Moderators' "fair-haired boys" at the moment), so I'm unlikely to be banned for it. ;) And I can always blame you for calling me funny. :)

Thanks again, Kate!

Don,

I must say that I have really enjoyed each part of the series and look forward to the remaining three. It is sharp, concise and full of links that are oh so very useful. Also, the photos and videos enhance your words perfectly and add just the right touch of humor to make it an easy and enjoyable read. IMHO, this is a must read for anyone who is vaping or considering vaping.

Thanks for all of the hard work and Kudos on a job well done!

bikergirl1908,

Thank you for your thoughtful and glowing assessment of my "labor of love." [At the moment, I would put the emphasis on the word 'labor.' Part 3 (just completed) tuckered me out. Aw, poor Don. ;) ]

Not sure everyone would agree with your "concise" assessment, however.

Thanks again, bikergirl!
