Count me in the crowd that doesn't like or use either the stinkies (not with 2 grand kids making tons of their own style!) or analogs.

I like the term tobacco burner, or t-burner on occasion. Puts an emphasis on the burn part, which is what we all left behind.

Refuse to use analog. And the rationale behind it just doesn't make sense to me. And it strikes me that it would only make sense when talking to another vaper - 'civilians' would require a full explanation and even then it would be disruptive to the conversation.

Pure contrived 'jargon'.

Occasionally I call my aging Labrador Retriever "stinky breath."

He appears unfazed by this and still insists on breathing in close proximity to my face! UGH!!

I refer to my flatulent older cat as smell cat, sometimes. Despite this, his favorite place to sit is on my lap.

Unfortunately that rules out using any of a lot of good 'haven't smoked since' sig line counter things.

I also used "burner" or "burnies" for a--very short-lived--time. It sounded too contrived and frankly it felt douchie to me. Oh, and check out my "Haven't smoked since..." counter below! (Just sayin'...)

Also the sig banner I use... it says 'since my last smoke' and 'cigs unsmoked' -- both relatively inoffensive to most smokers or former smokers. also, the one I use is the only one I can find that counts Feb's days correctly... that one that so many were using, pre-black list, apparently thought Feb had 31 days and never would figure my time correctly. A couple of others are *close*, but the Ms. T's that I use is the only one that correctly counts it right down to the HOUR. They also have a blue version... for "boys" I guess... ;)

I agree with you, since an e-cig is an "analog" of a cigarette... it's backward!

Oh Katya . . . please don't go over to the Dark Side! 8-o If you now link to some new-fangled, phony baloney end-of-civilization "dictionary" claiming that "impactful" is an adjective, MY EYES WILL BLEED AND MY HEAD WILL EXPLODE!! :D:D:D:D

I just had a memory of the SNL episode when they were doing the Celebrity Jeopardy! skit with Sean Connery and the "S-words" category. "I'll take 'swords' for $200," and Trebek kept trying to correct him, "that's 'S-words' Mr. Connery." "Yes, 'swords' for $200."

And in trying to think of what else we could call cigarettes, I actually had a Sam Kinison moment.

SamKinison_zpsaa6ae108.jpg

"What should we call them? You wanna know? Really? Come here. I'll tell you. Come here. You wanna know? How about we call them POISON! THEY'RE POISON! RIGHT THERE IN YOUR LUNGS! THEY'RE DRANO ACID RAT KILLING FLESH BURNING STENCH OF DEATH POISON! YOU'RE KILLING YOURSELF AND YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW IT! See, just cut your arm open and put the cigarette right there in your veins, just put it right there in your veins and light it, and while you're at it just SET YOURSELF ON FIRE BECAUSE YOU'RE GOING TO DIE ANYWAY!!! That's what we'll call 'em. You like that name? Do ya?"

I personally think that name's a little too long, though. :p

"Say it, SAY it, SAY ITTTTTTT!!!!!!"

Referred to as stinkies because to ex-smokers the smell literally stinks...

I think they do... but quite a few ex-smokers round here have disputed that, saying they love the smell of a "freshly-lit" cigarette. I think it smells a lot like a combination of burning leaves and road tar, and maybe some burning oil or rubber thrown in to make it that much more "fragrant." 8-o

True, but in all seriousness, it is a somewhat derogatory term. And I don't want to sound condescending or insulting to my fellow smokers. I don't want them to feel like they are being ridiculed here. I mean, we were all smokers once--some of us still smoke an occasional cigarette, some still struggle... We all used to smell bad once. Cigs, smokes, even analogs--fine. Stinkies bother me.

i do like the smell of a freshly lit cigarette. what makes me nauseous is the guy next to me in the shuttle on my way to work and he smells to high heaven as though he slept in a giant, bed-sized ashtray all night. today he was 3 rows up front from me and i could still smell his stank wafting over to me. sometimes i just wanna give him a quick smack on the back of his bulbous mellon head and say, "dude you smell like wet ashtray! stop smoking in your apartment!"
