That's a very good point. I think I'll change my attitude towards smokers now. I've always despised hypocrisy, and there is no greater shame I feel than when I catch myself inadvertently being a hypocrite.

For a long time, I've had this niggling thought that tobacco is the native Amercans' long-delayed revenge on all those who stole their country from them. Yeah, steal the country, we can't stop you... here, have a peace pipe... ;)

I don't want to alienate smokers, but I work with, or around many every day. Most of the negative comments and reactions I get when I am outside for a vape, are from smokers. All from "I hear them things are worse than smoking!" To "Wow! That looks weird!" Or my favorite "If those things REALLY work, why are you still using them?" Then when you try to tell them the benefits of vaping, or explain away the mis information, they get a look about them like what a man would get when if a woman explained the pros and cons of tampons vs maxi pads. It is always a different situation when someone is actually interested, like many non smokers are, but they are always "looking to buy for a loved one" which I advise against, but I find myself just blowing off the cynics.
The smokers I work with either treat me like a smoker, wanting me to cover their section while they sit outside many, many times, but then treated like a cigarette "traitor" if I want to vape, and nobody wants to cover my section because "I vape, and don't need that like a cigarette" yet expected to cover the next smokers' section while they go out. Then, at the end of the shift, I am stuck doing the sidework, because everyone, at closing time, is outside yapping, and getting their cigarette fix for the next 15 to 20 minutes, while I resort to sneaking vapes on the toilet for 5 minutes throughout my shift.
All this talk about demonizing smokers, and I remember, when I smoked, silently cursing out the new nonsmoking server, because that is one less person to cover my section to keep up my one smoke an hour habit at work, or being genuinely ticked off, when a nonsmoking manager came in and put a stop to smoke breaks. Those people were like the devil to me. I guess turnabout is fair play.

Or my favorite "If those things REALLY work, why are you still using them?"

The next person I get this sort of thing from, I may just smack 'em. They just don't GET that it's a smoking REPLACEMENT, not a "smoking cessation device." I didn't want to quit smoking at all; I loved 'em passionately, I just didn't like all the cancer I was inhaling, or the grotty smell they give everything around 'em, or all those hateful glares when I'd be suffering already having to stand out in freezing weather just to get some nicotine. When I found vaping, I felt positively DELIVERED, I still do, and I'll be durned if I plan to quit vaping!

I'm not saying that someday I won't decide to quit vaping; I guess it's possible, anything is possible, but I think it very unlikely. And even if they start taxing vaporizable nicotine, I'll just get no-nic in my flavor, and wear a patch -- but how is it that they can offer patches and gum OTC for a fairly reasonable price, and decide to start taxing the hell out of nicotine that's vapable? I foresee a lot of lawsuits, if they continue to offer nicotine at a reasonable price in patch and gum form, but tax the bejeebers out of vapable nicotine.

Be that as it may... it would seem that our opponents are not just ANTZ, but smokers too. And that is just plain crazy -- sorta like loving something that's going to kill you.

Just bugs me. It sounds like a toddler talking about #2. There has to be a better word for cigarettes. I mean, I guess it's impossible to use the actual word, but there has to be something better than stinkies. Or analogs.

Anyone?

Cigarettes?

Anyway, that's the word I use. :D

So what are the pros and cons of tampons vs. maxi-pads?

(Just kidding. I won't be serious about going that far off-topic. It's just a mystery I've never really unraveled, even having tried them both myself. About all I've figured out so far is which one is less uncomfortable.)

Neither. I'm just more glad than I can say that that part of my life is OVER. Apparently there are SOME benefits to growing older. :D

But in the debate over which is better, cigarettes or e-cigs/mods/PVs... well, the latter hold every ace. :thumb:

Indeed they do. :)

I just began to wonder... Since cigarettes have one or more slang terms, shouldn't e-cigs/APVs have at least one as well?

Shouldn't anyone who calls cigarettes "stinkies" based on their smell perhaps refer to AVPs as "sweeties"? Or "pleasants"? Or "NonLethalReplacementsForTheDeadlyActOfSmoking"?

I know... The last one's a bit long. It just seems like there should be a reasonably acceptable, nice-sounding slang term for our vaping hardware. I don't believe that e-cigs/APVs NEED a slang reference. I'm just surprised that after several years one hasn't come along and stuck.

A lot of people call them their pacifiers. APVs, not tampons.

In order to cut down on my husband's confusion (he has so much!), I've taken to calling it my "vape stick". When I'm using my vv3's or my Twist, that fits. Maybe "vape log" for my Sigelei. ;) Or "vape barbell" when it's telescoped, which is most of the time, since it's actually more comfy in the hand that way.

I smoked cigarettes for 20 years. I'm not going to start calling them something different now. When I went to the store I asked for a pack of whatever brand I smoked. I did not ask for a pack of stinkies.

I think I've used the word analogs twice on this forum and both times I sounded like a jerk in my own head.

Instead of smoking I am vaping. Other than that I don't see a need for my vocabulary to do a complete flip. It's not necessary.

I'm extremely .... retentive about anything to do with language... the one that drives me up a WALL is "I'm just sayin..." YOU'RE JUST SAYIN' WHAT EXACTLY??? Is what I always want to reply that little ear-barb... ARGHHHHHHHH!

And of course, ALWAYS, using "impact" as a verb. AAAARGHHHHHHH! It's a NOUN!!!

Yeah, I felt kinda stupid when I was using other terms. I just call them cigs now (I'm too lazy to type out "cigarettes").

It's The Weather Channel's fault. They started saying it on TV, and suddenly EVERYONE is saying it. That storm will NOT impact you, but it may have an impact on you!!!

For anything to be impacted, it needs to be a wisdom tooth.

And you were sayin'... WHAT EXACTLY? That the English language has been butchered by television? Absolutely.

Occasionally I call my aging Labrador Retriever "stinky breath."

He appears unfazed by this and still insists on breathing in close proximity to my face! UGH!!

Give him a tube of toothpaste to play with... ;)

Or, if you actually love him, give him those "greenies"... now if they just made those for CATS! However for cats, they'd need something to change their whole-body smell. I love my cat, but I'm glad she lives in the garage instead of the house!!!
