J CHIPs are shipping!

Ordered a J Chip today along with some extra parts. I am going to stick it in a Hammond B box(dual batteries in series) that I have on hand for now, but I am working on a wood dual battery mod for a future J Chip.
Also ordered one of the extension tubes for my S class SXmini so I can try it with two batteries. I also ordered one of the SX350 box kits for an extra SX350(60 watt) chip I have laying around.

just ordered an m class for some ridiculous reason, i need another mod like i need a hole in the head...especially a $200 one. impulse is the worst.

I think you'll love it. There's only two potential problems I've heard of. 1.) it seems a lot are reporting the cover is out of alignment ever so slightly. So slight in fact I didn't realize mine had the misalignment until someone else reported it and I doubled checked mine two days after I had received it. 2.) When exiting the menu system in joule mode, and adjusting the temperature or joules, the temperature displayed on the screen seems to be a random number until you hit the fire button, then it displays what you had set the temperature to. The second one may be doing something by design or as intended not sure yet. I posted a msg in the Sxmini supplier thread hoping Onedesign1 will be able to answer or anyone else with the M class. You would have to be overly .... retentive for either of these to be a problem. I'm fairly critical and OCD and now that I know about the misalignment I want to figure out how to fix it but reality is it's not a problem and I wouldn't want to void a warranty just by loosening the screws and making it align better. Aside from that this thing is a work of technological beauty, sleek / elegant yet solid, hefty & rugged feeling. I haven't heard of anyone that's been disappointed in this.

Onedesign1,
I received my J chip/board today and it looks really nice. I was going to use an antivandal switch instead of the "on board" fire switch, but I have run into something that I an not sure about. On the small board on which the fire switch is located is a small component, maybe a resistor or capacitor.
Will it be ok to remove the small board entirely and use another stand alone fire switch?

I think you should be able to put any switch you like on there.
Question did they put epoxy around and all over the updown switches and usb board?

There is some epoxy around the usb board, more on the back side than the front. The usb seems to be mounted really well and should hold up.
There is a small amount of epoxy between the updown switches on the switch side of the board, however there is more epoxy on the back side along with some components.
I don't have a good camera for pictures, so maybe Onedesign1 can provide a picture for you.

The reason for my question is I'll have to remove the up down switches and usb board and attach wires as my design will not work where they are.
So does it look like i can clip the switche legs off and desolder the usb? I know a little heat on that epoxy and you can chip it away.

I know for sure I could not remove the updown switches and usb. I would destroy the board.
Someone who is used to working on such things may be able to do the removes. It looks like the switches are "surface mount" and I can see under my magnifying light very small tabs that are soldered to the board.
An interesting thing I just discovered when looking at the board is there are four unused "pin outs" that look just like the ones on the first SX350 boards that they used after the first release for the remote switch wire connections. Looks like Yihi was thinking early on in the development of the J chip to offer the option of remote updown switches. But we know all to well they decided to only offer one switch option and that being onboard.

Question, wouldn't it be an interesting feature if you could see your total joules used on the SX350 ?

Dunno about a total joule display. But you do have a joules counter on the display that resets on battery change (I think). It's like an improved and advanced puff counter, or an indicator of your battery life and how much energy do they actually store. Also it's proportional to the amount of liquid you vaporized. So you could reset it each morning and know how much you actually vaped.

Supposed to get my J board tomorrow. If OD1 hasn't been back before I get the chance I'll check out the solder pad idea. Also, there is a good chance the switches could be disassembled and gently demoed as I have done with others in the past to get to a place I could solder small wires on. I typically use 30 gauge Kynar wire for delicate work like that since the soldering itself (for the short period of time needed) doesn't consume the insulation. Course if they are through hole switches then you could solder to the back of the board and Bobs your Uncle.

I still wish they would put a simple watch in the firm ware I look at my mod more than my watch. In fact I don't even ware a watch any more because of my smart phone I don't need one.
Now if I could only surf the web txt and make calls with my sx-XXX mod... hum.....
    YIHI are you listening?
