Well, got one wicked with rayon. Made it thick in the notch coil, thinned it a little for the first bend, then thinned it a lot after wick the drops below the slot. Cut the wick at an angle so there's just a small point hitting the bottom of the deck. It's wicking fine and the flavor has been good... not Boreas/Supreme good, but it's pretty close. Running it with the dual air slot topper at about 2/3's open. I liked the look of the drip tip, but in use it seemed a bit too short so I ended up swapping it out.
Others have mentioned "guzzles the juice" but I'm not sure if 'guzzles' is a strong enough description - it was like I blinked and the first tank was gone! I'm sure going from 8 ml tanks down to ~3 ml boosted that feeling though. I had no issues on the initial fill from a unicorn bottle but on the first refill, the single fill hole kept air locking on me, like the bottle was just a bit too short all of a sudden. Had to dig out a syringe to fill it up, so that's a definite con.
Tried it on the VF Stout and it wasn't the most stable at first... used TCRs from 92 to 102 and it popped the "new coil?" message multiple times and even kicked into VW mode a couple of times. I loosened the set screws and tightened them back up and that seemed to clear it up... it also dropped .03 ohms after doing that, so even though it felt tight at first, it might not have really been seated good. I also vaped it a bit on straight wattage, and it was ok but seemed to lack flavor compared to TC - both were at 36 watts.
After letting it cool, I tried it on a DNA200. I first tried a SS316 curve and it was horrible. Changed to a straight TCR value and kept increasing from 92 until I settled at 107. With nickel legs, I don't think 92 could be the proper TCR for it anyway. It looked fairly normal on the device monitor at that setting and performed well. I think on the other tank I'll just use my standard NiFe coil so I can compare it to the notch.
Overall it's a cool design but I don't think it'll fit my normal vaping style in the long term. As I only use DIY juice and unicorn bottles, it seems refills may be a pain... and that will be amplified by the small amount the tank holds. I may have an empty dropper bottle that I can clean out and use... might help with refills.
