Try to get something more like this, you want your coils to be wrapped tight and even, I have a 6-10 wrap tolerance only no less and not more, never three wraps at any gauge.

I am not criticizing, I am just suggesting because you can get a better and your vape will be safer and more pleasant.

His diameter is much larger for you, so his 3 wraps probably equals your 6. I do larger diameter spaced coils. Tried tight coils, tried nano-coils. For one juice, I use tight coils, the rest are spaced. After a week or two of rewicking them, they do not look as nice as they did when I installed them, but I'll be darned if I can't tell the difference.

Really buddy do some more coil building, you are getting a bad vape experience because your coils need some swag!

You must not know me. :D

My coils are tight and even. That's an old picture from my first standard macro build. Also, I hate contact coils. All of them. I won't go back. I didn't have a bad vape experience. I just needed to lower my nic.

I'm floating in the clouds, as usual.

As far as safety, I'm pushing 21A through a 30A VTC4. Well within the limits, good sir.

I've found the "ugly" coils vape much better at lower ohms. When you get below .5 those tiny coils don't stay as wet as the bigguns. You can always submerge them in cotton from the outside but then your wasting so much juice.

Yep. Love only having to squonk every 3 or 4 hits with my super macs.

I Vape on a Reomizer 2 at .37 Ohm and 3.2 -3.4V under load so FC-2000 Porous Ceramic Wick is perfect.
Why use cotton? The FC-2000 Porous Ceramic Wick. It doesn't degrade. My build lasts for more then 2 months. It doesn't wick as well as cotton but who cares you just squonk a little more often. 3 Wraps of 24 Gauge Kanthal does the trick.
I use the Ugly Coils too.

Guess he never heard me refer to you as Mad Man Z. I'd say get a bottle of VG and dilute it yourself. Extra vg = more clouds hummmm maybe the B&M is a better choice. LOL Love ya bro keep pushing the edge. If you're not living on the edge you're taking up too much room.

It was getting late, I figured it would just be easier to head over to the B&M before class. They diluted to around 2mg, I believe.

I build the ugly coils

Yes you do and I love it! If I'm in a rush I betcha my coils are way more ugly than yours. /lol On a more prosaic note, any way folks build is fine with me. I'm not going to judge. Someday we will have "blind tests" and those results should be gold! :)

I know how that feels Z. Going over with the nic isn't fun. That's why I dropped to 6mg from 12mg after I got my first mech. What nic levels are you running?

When I got my first mech, I went from 18mg down to 10mg, then shortly after that down to 8mg. Stuck that out for a while, but then I began getting a sore throat, at which point I moved down to 4mg. Just recently moved down to 3mg. 2mg doesn't quite do it for me yet.

EDIT:

PS- You mean I've been busing my bleeeep for months trying to perfect my super nano itsy bitsy teeny weeny super tight coils for no reason???

Micros and nanos are great at higher ohmage. For example, a 10 wrap micro coil with 28G will put you around 1.0Ω or so, I believe (it's been a while). The whole benefit of micro coils is that you can achieve low-ish ohmage while still getting a great amount of surface area. Once you drop to super-sub-ohm, though, the benefits dissipate because they get so hot and because there's only a small amount of cotton, they tend to burn very quickly. A 1.0Ω micro coil doesn't get so hot that it burns the cotton after half a second. A micro coil at, say, 5 wraps of 26G, will put you around 0.48Ω. So will a macro at 3 wraps with spaced coils. For a super-sub build, the second of the two will give you a much better vape, because there is enough cotton for you to take a lengthy drag without burning. Also, e-juice doesn't have to touch the coils to vaporize. It only has to be close enough to the right amount of heat. Since a large, spaced coil like mine gets so hot... You know what? I'm rambling. Here's a crappy drawing:

What a great explanation, thank you very much for taking the time and for the drawings!

I'll have to do some more experimentation with coil set ups especially with these RM2s as I have been struggling with the very limited wick issues. I have tried several different configurations but all have been contact coils ranging from nano to macro with very mixed results. Nano is out, just can't wick fast enough. Micro seems to be working OK for the time being. Macro worked ok but there wasn't enough coverage as they were still contact coils so the vapor and flavor were diminished.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try it today!
