hi all, first post here alhtough ive been a member for about 6 months :p.

so im thinking of buying a vmod xl kit from Happy Vaper but im still kind of torn between that and the lavatube/knight rider. The lavatube kits ive seen from canadian vendors all offer the same thing for around the same price (80 to 90 canadian) but the only reason i REEEALY want the lavatube is to have the vari volt option on a decent priced mod with a good size battery. other than that i find them kind of ugly and cheap looking, and the fact that i cant use dual coil cartos or any atty under like 3 or 2.5 ohms is a downside for me as most of my other attys are low res. on the other hand The ONLY Vmod XL kit i've found from any canadian vendor is at Happy Vaper for 100 bucks, and DOESNT include batteries or a charger therefore id be looking at spending more like 150 canadian on the whole thing which is just slightly steep for me, i could still afford it but it would be tight. after re writing this post almost 3 times ive gone from 50/50 to about 80/20 in favor of the vmod so im pretty sure i will get it just wondering if anyone knows of any other canadian vendors that maybe sell it for a better price or at least with the batteries and charger included? or if anyone can suggest a better box mod for a similiar price that is vari volt as well and available from canadian vendors. Ive looked at the einstein from Electro Vapors but the 680mah battery doesnt impress me much, for a mod i want at least 1500 mah in my battery. also looked at the revolution v2 but all the reviews ive seen for that model were less than stellar in comparison.

anyone with experience with either the vmod xl or the lavatube/knight rider or both units is welcome to share opinions as well. im a rather undecisive fellow so my mind could still change.

look forward to your replies

I too was recently having some of the same conflicts as you between a Lava Tube and a VMod XL. While I can't tell you what is best for you, I can tell you that I ended up with a VMod XL and so far am very happy with it! For me, the form factor and ease of use was the deciding factor as the bottom feeding aspect of the VMod works great and is so easy to use and has yet to have any leaking. It is reasonably small (fits easily in my hand), sleek and discreet to use in public and I don't have to mess with punching cartos for tanks or carting around a bunch of accessories when I leave the house as the battery lasts all day and the feeder bottle holds well over a days worth of juice. I just throw the thing in my pocket (did I say no leaks!) and go.

I too found the Lava Tube to be a bit ugly and I decided that I would take my time (while researching and saving up some $) and wait until I could get a high quality VV device with some kind of feed system that is as handy as what I have with my VMod (I have been lurking in the GG section of the forum and am considering the upcoming P&P or waiting til summer for the VV version of the GGTS teamed with the next version of the Odysseus feeding module with a rebuildable atomizer for my deluxe home vaping). It take a bit of practice to get used to how much "squonking" of the feeder bottle it takes (not much at all) to get the perfect feed to the atty, but I have found that using a carto (currently loving the smoketech Resurrector 1.7 ohm cartos) helps with this as any overfeeding will get absorbed into the carto filler. I just fill a carto once and then squonk the rest of the time to keep a nice consistent vape. If you do overfeed, just give it a bit to soak up and it will hit great again. Super vapor, great taste with that 1.7 ohms. Now that I have my feed technique down, I am looking at possibly trying an HH 357 atomizer on my Vmod which are said to be great with bottom feeder mods. I am sufficiently satisfied with my current setup that I feel no urgent need for a VV mod. There are plenty of people that seem happy with their Lava Tube so I doubt you would be unhappy either way, but for me and my lifestyle, I couldn't be more pleased with my decision. BTW, I love Montreal!

Montreal loves you more CLoudhopper!!! :p

your post has pushed me more towards the vmod yet again. I was lurking on the vmod xl thread by ag and it seems alot of people are using 5v batteries and stacked RCR123As to get higher voltage with the vmod, would be cheaper to just buy different batteries for different voltage then buying a whole seperate mod imo.
And as you said for me the main draw right now is the feeder bottle and form factor. I was using a 900 mah variable voltage ego as my only sort of mod untill it recently died after only 2 months of vaping. i always found having that big tube in my pocket was awkward as hell, and it was nowhere near as big as the lavatube! The vmod seems like it would have more of a cigarette pack feel in my pocket which i'm much more used to and, as someone who likes to maximize my pocket space, i really enjoy the idea of having the juice and everything right there ready to go without having to fiddle with any extras except maybe some spare cartos or attys. Not to mention not having to drip! i love the flavour and vapour of dripping but i hate having to physically do it so often so i'm definitely pumped on the feeder system.

man who am i kidding, it's decided VMOD XL NEXT PAYCHECK :p!!!!

You'll dig it tronny! It's actually smaller than a pack of cigs (except for the atty tube bit) and If you really want to give it more flexibility later, you can even modify it to take a kick from evolv which will give you variable wattage settings to work with. You may have seen some info about doing that in some of the VMod threads.
Enjoy!!

I have had about one week of vaping with my VMOD v2, it's offcourse smaller than the XL, and only takes a 14500 battery, but I am very happy with it! Beeing female, I did get the small one to be sure it would fit comfortably in my hand. I love the ease of use, and haven't touched any of my eGos since it arrived. I can carry it anywhere, and use it with the supplied atomizer and 'Silo' 2.2 ohm cartomizers, as well as 2.0 ohm Boges. For the first time in two months I have not been browsing other options to up the preformance. I say go for it :)

Thanks for being supportive Damper and Cloudhopper :)!! nice to here from some vmodians i was expecting a bunch of Reo or Provari fan boys to attack me on this one (jk guys, i'm sure those units are wonderful but i'm poor lol). @Damper: i was a bit concerned with the "xl" part myself because i have freakishly small hands for a dude, but battery life was my main concern in getting any mod in the first place so i can deal with it being a little big especially if it has no light. Also, as i dont have a credit card i wouldnt have been able to order the 2.0 from vapage and no canadian vendors seem to carry any vapage products except for Happy Vaper who, at this time, ONLY offers the Vmod XL "a la carte" kit, no other vapage kits attys or accesories. im thinking of getting a credit card just so i can order the custom cases from vapage :D but maybe ill just talk to jack at happy vaper and see if he can hook me up with some, or if hes planning to stock them at any point :2cool:. Plus if CLoudhopper says the XL is smaller than a pack of american cigs then its gonna be way smaller than a canadian pack :D so this should be a perfect size for me.

This may be sort of a newb question (i guess at 5 and a half months im still relatively new at vaping) but do any hardware or electronic stores carry any suitable mod batteries or chargers? im not really the handyman type, the only batteries ive ever had to look for (before vaping) were like AA AAA or 9volt for my guitar stuff, but im just thinking if i could save a couple bucks buying 18650s and a charger at home depot or canadian tire or something it would help me to get this mod sooner.... i kind of need it asap as im just using my original 510s right now and i feel like they might be nearing the end of their life since im running them HOT with a visions stone 3 tank . getting some kanger cartos tomorrow that might help them last a bit longer, but after seeing my vari volt ego crap out after 2 months im amazed these 510s have lasted this long (props to kat at Electro Vapors for offering a boss 510 manual kit for the first timers, ive heard the autos are good too) and i'm now 110% craving the vmod after hearing everything on the vmod threads i've been lurking:p im aiming to order it this week but i havent had lots of work lately so it would be really tight for me to drop the money on the Vmod and batteries and charger all at once. i find it odd that all these different batteries would have no other uses then pv mods as well, so it just seems logical that a hardware store or something would have them available at a better price then ordering them online. all the canadian vendors i see sell mod batts for like 15-30 a piece depending on the size, so jelly of you lucky US residents reaping the benefits of low priced PV mods and accessories :( .

Here in Norway I could not find anywhere to buy li-ion batteries over the counter, ended up ordering batteries from Liberty Flights and a charger called Xtar WP2.2 from a torchlight place on the net. This charger gets good reviews and preforms well as far as I can tell. Less than half the price of a Pila charger (which is supposed to be top of the line in it's class), and from what I have read it does follow the recommended charging cyclus for the Li-ion cells. I found this blog entry about 18650's in Canada after a quick search - might be of some help.
It took me only half a day to get familiar with the VMOD, but I do perfer it with a cartomizer on top for everyday use - probably because I have little experience with atomizer use. The cartomizers seems to make it more forgiving of general newbie clumsyness with a bottom/ gravity feeder - speeking of myself:facepalm:

makes sense to me, the carto has more filler to absorb excess juice so definitely a smart way to start out wiht your bottom feeder. ive been mostly a dripping guy untill my recent love affair for cartos sparked from my EMDCC and my new kanger cartos. btw does anybody use kangers with the vmod xl or vmod 2.0? seem like theyd work well but im just curious because it seems next to impossible to get these carts to leak, but the horizontail bottom coil seems like it would be well suited to a bottom feeding mod and there's really good airflow...i suppose i could just look on the Vmod XL thread (agaaaain :D )

You can also easily mod the Vmod XL to VV with a kick using a aw 18490 battery;

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...m-feeding-mod-vapage-com-266.html#post5612678 post #2657

hth! ;)
Sweet, so all i need is some copper foil and the kick more or less? i will definitely keep this in mind for the future, for now i think ill just stick with 3.7v, just cuz my pay coming this week is less then stellar and the 50-60 that the canadian vendors are charging for the kick would be too much for my humble budget if im already ordering the kit and batteries and charger. plus i want to see how well it performs at 3.7 first since thats what vapage originally intended it for (to my knowledge anyway) and since this is going to be my first mod (i want to say last but i cant even type the L with a straight face :p)i'm sure there will be alot of things i need to get used to. ALso, i've never even vaped higher than 4.2 volts so far so since i dont really know what im missing it wont be too much of an issue for now haha. all that being said, next paycheck after this one will probably be Kick city for me!

So just placed my order, the nice folks at happy vaper gave a me a 15% off coupon code , which unfortuneately only applied to the batteries and charger but still saved me about 8 bucks (it's the little things that count :) ). i asked for expresspost priority shipping so if my calculations are correct i should be getting it by friday or monday at the latest :D SOOOO EXCITED GUYS!!!!!!
once i've had some time to see the good the bad and the weird with it (shameless grimmgreen rip-off, i know) i'll post some sort of review, probably in the vmod xl thread.

Cheers!

so after a little bit of a kafuffle with canada post, i got my vmod today!!!SOOOO STOKED!!!! just finished charging the batteries and i'm trying out the silo right now. only thing is i have a kind of funky mix of juice in here right now since my supply was running low but so far sooo good, 2.2 ohms doesnt feel IDEAL, but its pretty decent right now, gonna try out the uni hybrid and my kangers later and see how she fares...i'm thinking that theres lots of juice and 306 attys in my future though :)... i love holding the little guy, despite the "XL" title and my small girly hands it fits perfectly in my hand. stay tuned for a video review in about a week or so, once i have some good experience with it to share.
Thanks Happy Vaper!!!

Congratulations for your brand new VMod. I had the luck to try out a VMOD XL too. So I decided to order one too immediately. :)
I think if somebody is not the person like I'm, who want to try out everything which is a good looking device, but like the decent and various tastes and various tanks/DCTs/cartos/visions/etc all we need a VMod XL for the constant vaping and a Lava-style VV mod (including GS-Sub/X-Bomb or the ProVari) for the atomizers and cartridges with various resistance.
Soon, I will have a stainless steel VTube from the Apollo and a VMod XL from the Clouds of Vapor. These two devices will be my day-to-day devices for vaping.

So I think you choose right!
