Ok well I have been analog free for about 3 weeks now. I do find that I am missing something, I have been thinking of analogs a little more lately thinking I should try just one. I use to do dip years ago here and there. I also tried Camel snus for the hell of it. I kind of liked it but it is very sweet. I know if I try one cig I will probably want another although I am thinking of it lately :( . I just went to get snus and got the frebie sample pack.. I wonder If I should just place a full order though? If so i AM THINKING OF GETTING THE ORIGINAL GENERAL BRAND what are your thoughts have any of you found three weeks in to quiting you start to kid yourself thinking you can have just one more analog. Will snus help me for that something I am missing?

Thanks Chris;)

There seems to be a fairly common theme showing up that after about a month some people hit a wall with e-cigs. Something is missing, and it's not the carcinogens. If you can tough it out and find contentment on the other side more power to you, but for those of us hanging out on the ST forum that is generally not the case.

You can have one cigarette like I can have one cookie. Not gonna happen.

The tougher question is what brands to try. There are numerous threads dealing with the different flavors. Everyones taste is different enough that all you can do is try a variety and see what appeals to you.

A good question for beginners is what strength snus to use, and that depends of how much nicotine you need to keep stay contented. Just another thing to think about when you get into snus.

As a recent advocate for augmenting my vape with snus I say go for it! :D

Stubby has it dead on, the 3-4 week mark hits a lot of people with a feeling of lacking, something missing.

General brands from Swedish Match are an excellent way to start out. This is because most anyone who uses snus, in the world it seems, has used General. The free sample pack you got from getsnus will give you a good baseline to refer to for further suggestions.

Enjoy!

I think I hit the wall around week 3 and went through a brief snus and snuff flirtation which lasted maybe a week or two tops. I'm so over that now and don't like snus or snuff either, but now and then I will have the desire to spray nicorette .5mg between 1.5mg and 6mg per day in two to three doses over and above vaping 24mg/26mg. So yeah we are missing something but it's not a train smash. Panic does set in when I have a bad eday which I define as a day when nothing seems to work properly in my entire e-weaponry arsenal- it's one of those days when you are not getting throat hits, getting big nic cravings and wonder if you've become desensitized to your vapes- but of course the next day everything is usually back to normal- so it's reassuring to have a can of snus in the fridge for a bad eday.:D

I can see from your banner that you where a moderately heavy smoker so the minis are not likely going to cut it for you. Start with the standard 8 mg portions, and perhaps even some mild strong snus (as in general Onyx). From there you can figure out if you need something stronger.

I hit 200 with this one.

A good question for beginners is what strength snus to use, ....

The portions in the sample pack you ordered should all be 8mg per portion with the mini-mints at 6mg.

You did select this one for your freebie?
General Introductory Sampler - GetSnus.com

I haven't tried los yet, just portions. Most of what I really enjoy is 8mg portions. Much over 11mg and I get the "I don't care" thing going on. ya know, "I don't care about my shoes"....

All you can do is try em' out. Nice thing is that the snus is really pretty cheap. If you get some that you can't stand it doesn't hurt to much to just pitch it, or, there's always someone that'll be more than happy to take it off your hands! :D

ok mate here is my take, I was a 2pad man or more. lighter portions are fine for the flavor and carry over nic fix.I have hit that wall about 4weeks ago and i do still have an analog here and there but they are not my thing. The am first thing .... and after dinner .... are the worst for me. So I personally advocate get a range. 8-17 mg just to see where you land.I do heavy in the am and afternoon and lighter for the carry overs.

I've tried a whole bunch of types of Snus and my favorite is the Thunder Frosted.
The mini packs a 8mg punch and the regular 16mg. Nice Minty taste not overly sweet like the Camel American Snus.
Seems like all the others taste almost the same to me.
My first order had
Gtotnsberg Rape
General Extra Sterk
Claq qui Stark Portion
Catch Eucalyptus
Catch Licorice
Thunder mini Frosted
Thunder Mini
General Onyx -(haven't tried)
General Regular (Haven't tried)

My 2nd order
is for
5 of the Thunder Frosted Regular
3 Thunder Frosted Mini
2 Catch Eucalyptus
1 Thunder Wintergreen (to try)

To me the Swedish Snus except for Thunder and to a degree the catch eucalyptus all seem to have a similiar taste. Maybe my pallet is not refined. I will admit that in the past I've partaken occasionally of American Snuff.
Thunder Frosted is probably the most similiar to American Snuff which is why I gravitated to it. Also it has a very high nicotine level and I am very resistant to nicotine.
I still e-smoke but it has tapered off to very little. I've been constantly Snus ing and this depresses the need for a e-cig.

Pretty accurate. I wonder why that is though. I guess there's something in tobacco other than nicotine, that we crave.

That would also explain why nicotine gum and patches don't work very well. At first, I thought it was the whole "going through the motions" of handling the cigarette, inhaling, blowing smoke etc, and if that was all it was, then e-cigs should be perfect.

Yet while I do sometimes feel like having a cigarette even with snus, I know exactly that it's purely psychological, whereas wile I was only vaping, there was something physically missing... hard to explain.

There is a very long thread that goes into detail about what's missing. If you haven't read it's very enlightening.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/nicotine/44958-so-we-getting-we-not-nicotine.html

You nailed the feeling very well, and it's not uncommon. There are other alkaloids in tobacco that are missing in the purified nicotine. What's interesting is that the type of nicotine in e-cigs is the same as that in gum and patches. For many of us it doesn't give the same type of satisfaction as smoking or snus.

When I quit smoking using snus I did miss the quick hit. That blast of, I'll call it nicotine+, within seconds of lighting up is not to be equaled. It took a bit to adjust to the slow uptake from snus, but once I did it was as satisfying as cigarettes for me. Something that e-cigs couldn't do.

The ecig at work is NOT cutting it, seems the vapor is not as productive nor enjoyable.

Snus snus and more snus soon to be foloowed by snuff at work and vape at home.
I do not know why but the vape and relaxing aspect is more a home thing and first thing am than on the go. It could be the near constant tinkering and fiddling is not the part I enjoy.

So armed with my arsenal of snus, soon to be snuff and a carto set up I should be doing ok.
