Well personally I believe that we should only vape in a place where smoking has been banned if we have sort and been granted permission to do so.
To surrepticiously take the odd puff when no one is looking (lanyard or not) is likely to cause confrontation if caught and non-smokers to come to regard vapers as being a furive and devious lot.
In the long run It is also self defeating - you may get away with having the odd puff now and again but where is the fun in that! The very act causes vaping to remain underground, it does not promote it to the masses - how can people come to accept what they do not know about.
Asking permission is the way to go - it may be granted or refused or in my case first granted then later refused. However I am still hopeful about that pub - debate has been started - many of the smokers there didn't know such a thing existed but now they do and some will purchase an e-cig of their own - hopefully some of them will also ask permission to vape inside.
I was in a minority of one last Saturday - there was no way the manageress could continue to allow just me to use an e-cig after receiving compalints from non-smokers but if more and more smokers ask permission then she may yet reverse her decision - basically she is on our side which would not be the case if she had caught me taking a sly drag without asking.
Tropical Bob - In the UK if something is not illegal then it is legal there is no in between no maybe - We can only make something legal if it was illegal in the first place (the UK law on canabis is a case in point) therefore as e-smoking has never been illegal websites addressing the UK can currently state that it is legal to use in areas where tobacco smoking has been prohibited.
