Man I hate that it's not working well for you. Have you tried any other juices in it? I know you just use that primary juice but for testing purposes to see if it is something with that particular combination of juice with the ERA. (If you already stated you did, I missed it...still too early and not enough coffee yet)

I have not yet used a different juice in the ERA. Like I said Im a one juice person. I havent really experimented with any other juice enough to know.

At this point, I dont know what the issue is. Ive built many picture-perfect coil and wick configurations, ranging from 1.7-2.5 ohms. I tried positioning the air hole in front of the coil, Ive tried different voltages, I tried enlarging the air hole. The funny part is, everything Ive tried hasnt changed the performance at all. Ill still get great clouds of vapor, but little to no flavor.

Hey Mike....I'm almost wondering if your taste buds might be bored. Seriously, it's happened to me. Unless you have a set up that produces the vapor you're looking for as a basis for comparison, I'm inclined to believe your buds may be striking on you. I can't do just one flavor for this very reason. After a while my taste buds lose all their spunk while being assaulted with the same flavor. So I tend to vape two flavors now....so when one loses it's flavor, I vape the other for a while. The reason I mention this is that the only major difference between you and most of the folks who have responded here is that you are a one juice kinda guy while most of us vape at least 2 or more flavors on a regular basis. You have used darn near every atomizer, cartomizer and wick/coil design that the rest of us have had success with, but not gotten more than a day or so of decent vape. it is just killing me knowing you're not getting what you're expecting out of your vape. :(

I agree about flavor...I typically am a 1 flavor person too...tobacco flavor and Flue Cured from AVE has been my staple...then it started tasting like nothing.
1 week on an ERA coil sort of does the same thing to...time to change the coil. However, recently I started purchasing super concentrated flavors from Vapingzone and I use my VG/Nic mixture and put a few drops in of different concentrates in the Reo bottle and it's good!! When I want a different flavor, I mix (right in the bottle) a different drop or two...this is just enough to keep the tobacco flavor and make it a bit different. Lately in 6ml bottle I put 3 drops of Flue Cured super concentrate with 1 drop of Black and Mild...oh, and I have a Seven Star that is just horrible, but mixed in (10 drops or so- this is not super concentrated) give me just enough of that analog awfulness to enjoy!! Bon Appetite!!

I really dont think my taste buds are bored...I can slap one of my old 357s back on and be right back to the great flavor I enjoyed..(the HH357 is not perfect, it has its own issues)...

My best vape Ive ever had was my VVG with a 2.5 357. It was perfect, every draw..but ironically, its the only atty thats ever died on me...after a few short weeks.

My quest is really to replicate that great vape with an ERA, so I can rebuild it whenever....but so far...not good..

Perhaps there just isnt many REO users experiencing what I am with this whole ERA/357 issue. I might try asking other sections.

I can tell on the ERA pretty much instantly if it's going to be a good vape or not. Sometimes I give it a day...if not good at the end of a day, I toss the coil and vape again. So far so good...I find a coil that is really good for me and I won't want to give it up even after a week...I find that a tail on my wick that isn't to long works the best. I also find that around 2.0ohms is best for me for some reason to give me that great flavor and vapor!

28AWG Kanthal 10 coils, wrapped around the smooth end of a 3/32 drill bit, then loop a nice long piece of 2mm Silica, take a scrap piece of wire and put it through the loop and twist it, use this as a guide to pull your looped piece of the 2mm silica through your 10 coils. = 1.5 ohms, then tie the silica in a single knot behind the 2 post, this coil is amazing, super flavor, huge vapor, if you haven't tried this JUST DO IT :) There isn't a 510 Atty that compares, and believe me I'm a 357 Fan but this set up is just over the TOP SUPER :) takes a bit to break in too

I love the 2mm silica doubled, and I use a very light small piece of filler in my Drip tips as a filter so nothing can pass through. mine dont seem to gunk up nearly that fast and if they do I simply run it under very hot waters then take my torch to it and it is dry and white like new in 1 minute. This 30AWG and especially the 28AWG Kanthal have been the best yet for me, as well as how Im doing my wick method, love the 10 coil set up @ 1.5ohm to the flavor is super, I wished they would make more room for are coils in an RBA's an extra 1/4-3/8 would be nice.

Ok, this thread is old but I would like to see what others have discovered since.

I gave up on the ERA a long time ago...since then, Ive been using HH357s with good results, but I still have the RBA itch....

Today I finally got the Chalice Ive been waiting so long for. I made a great coil and tried it out....but had the same results as the ERA, great vapor, but flavor wasnt there.

I can't say that all of my builds are good vapes yet; some super, some disapointing, no matter the RBA. The super ones convince me that RBAs are the way to go AND it is nice to have a few factory attys/cartos on hand when my build is disappoiting and no time to fiddle.

I never liked the flavor from silica so I use cotton yarn from walmart for like $3. Once I started using it I've never looked back either. I, as many others do, use the smooth end of a drill bit and feed 2 pieces of the wick through. If the coil is too loose on the wick the taste is dull, it needs to be snug but not strangled. Yes I rebuild my coil every time I do a fill of the bottle on my reo, but it takes me maybe 5 minutes and costs probably a whole $0.05

Man you're lucky. I've been looking for a Chalice for months. Lol. Try experimenting with different wick material and coil tightness like the previous post said. Things should turn around for ya. I do have to say, the 357 is hard to beat as far as attys go.

Also, if you ever want to throw in the towel hit me up. I would be more than happy to take that chalice of your hands. Good luck. I hope you get it figured out.

Still on the RBA train here. Currently using ERA's, Hornet and Chalice. Settled on cotton wick. It just plain tastes better to me. I would give cotton a try if you're using silica, and if you're still not happy, I would love to add another Chalice to my stable.

I did try the bamboo and cotton a while back with the ERA. I was very impressed with it at first, but quickly realized that those wicks only last 2 days max with the juice Im using (JC 100% VG).

I also have a juice, Plume Rooms Honey Fig Tabacco which is a NET natural extracted tabacco that kills wicks very quickly. But...using the squished coil method and cotton ball wicks, it takes about 90 seconds to change out the wick and dry burn the coil on it every couple of days. The coil lasts and lasts and lasts using 30g. Rewicking is quick and costs less than a penny to do so. Flavor and vapor are just perfect. This setup works so well and is so user friendly, it has been a game changer for me.

I would argue it you like the performance of cotton or bamboo, changing a wick every other day is a very small price to pay for a good vape.
