If the US was hit by a country wide EMP event, e-cigs would be the absolute least of our worries. 50-80% of the population will be dead within a year if it ever happens, as we'd immediately be reduced to the 1800's without the infrastructure to support the population.

People who are dependent on meds to not die (for example, heart patients who use beta blockers or insulin dependent diabetics) would start dropping dead within 30-60 days, and likely most of them would be gone within 90. Obese, sedentary individuals with heart disease would start dropping like flies as they would have to move their bodies for the first time in many years, and 911 and other public services would be non-existent.

People who lack any knowledge about basic survival skills (how to build a fire, how to fish, how to hunt) would be next to go.

In short, it would basically be TEOTWAWKI, and most of us won't survive. If you do, you'll have forgotten that worrying about e-cigs was ever something you did.

"end of the world in 2012" is not a realistic concern for people, it's an irrational fear for some. When we had a blackout for a couple days, I had no worries for my nicotine delivery system. I used a five hundred year old system... my hookahs (a Hindi word for water pipe or Nargile/Arghie in the middle east. Also called Shisha, but shisha is commonly refers to the tobacco in america). Basically a hookah uses tobacco as a substrate for VG and favoring while adding a natural tobacco to the flavor profile. So you are essentally vaping VG. Contrary to popular belief, a hookah does not burn the tobacco like like a pipe or cig, but rather bakes the tobacco and vaporizes the VG and flavorings by the use of hot coal *. The variety of flavors of "shisha", "Mu‘assel" or hookah tobacco is as varied as our vape juice. Though no where as portable as a provari, it's just as enjoyable, and electricity free.

* in modern hookah smoking, if the tobacco is burned, you are doing it wrong. In some countries, a metal screen isn't used to protect the tobacco but rather the coals placed directly on the mu‘assel, and some tobacco is burned.

Very interesting post. I keep meaning to research this, not for the end of the world thing but just out of curiosity. Aren't hookahs becoming popular again? I think I read an article on CNN just last week about them becoming popular for college students....

***I wouldn't do well suddenly having to give up vaping if something did happen...I know there'd definitely be bigger worries, but wow I still wouldn't do well with it.

There's a lot of misinformation about hookahs. Also, not much good info on the "new" uses of them with PG and such.

I stay away from them personally, since burning charcoal is still combustion and PG/VG heated to too high a temp (even below tobacco burning levels) produces acrolein.

I'm the 1st to admit that even e-cigs are not PROVEN safe yet, and probably won't be for 20 years if ever. I have hopes. But I don't go around touting them as safe. Hookahs may be safER than cigs, IDK. But I want to see real data on this, and also "modern hookah" use.

uh, there is no combustion going on. The coal isn't heated on the shisha. It's not a BBQ. It is heated to red coals off on the stove or other such heating device. No PG, VG is used and in the case of classic mu'assel, honey and molasses. The coals themselves are not the same as the kingsfords you use to grill your burgers either. Even using natural BBQ coal like oak etc is NOT advised. The coals used by hookah enthusiasts are petroleum free, and made of (the good kind at least) coconut husks, to give a good clean heat source.

Yes hookahs have become popular with college aged people but from the forums, more popular with older folks as well. The non tobacco type of shisha have become very popular lately. There are even "shisha stones" that are only VG, flavor, and nicotine in a stone substrate. Exactly what we are enjoying in our rigs.

So back to the OPs topic, I have several solar cells of various types that can charge my stuff in case of a power outage (which has happened occasionally). I have seen people build one of those small hand crank generators built into a mod to charge their PVs battery.

OK. Sorry. I got the VG from your post. Coal/stone at what temp? See acrolein posts on ECF...even for e-cigs and test results at low e-cig type temps (negative as I understand it).

To the OP. It's always something.... EMP. Meteor. Earthquakes. Massive volcano in Yellowstone. Civil unrest. Plague. Famine. Solar Flares. Invasion/War. IDK how to cover all bases. I have a home generator. Not protected vs EMP tho. So...huh. IDK. Whatareyagonnado?
