Study: E-Cigarettes Reduce Tobacco Cravings

Probably the most objective, least ANTZy piece on vaping that's ever appeared in Time. In fact, up until the last paragraph (where they use the "but they're still hooked on nicotine" canard), there's not really anything inaccurate or otherwise objectionable.

Long-term smokers were likely to trade in tobacco cigarettes for e-cigs: 21% stopped smoking tobacco entirely, and an additional 23% cut the number of tobacco cigarettes they smoked per day in half. Across all groups, the number of tobacco cigarettes smoked was cut by 60%.

why can't these people get that vaping IS NOT smoking?

Magical thinking (or associative thinking, to use the proper psychological term). If a thing looks like another thing, then it shares the properties of that thing. It's a vestige of the way we used to think when we lived in caves and understood next to nothing about the world around us. Obviously, it has no place in the 21st century, but ancient habits are hard to break.
