I've been a e-cig user for several years, and in that time I've settled into using a "Mini", or DSE901. Over the past year or so, I've noticed that the atomisers are not lasting very long (about a week), and although I have discovered the ultimate way to clean them (see here) it is still a PITA. When I started, the atomisers would last for months, it was the batteries that died after a couple of weeks. Strange!

Anyway, there have been many new developments since I started, so I'm considering a change. I have several requirements, in order:

  • Must look elegant, long and slim with no bulges
  • Must not be white: silver or black preferred
  • LED must not be red or amber: blue preferred
  • Automatic battery preferred, or a button I can reach without holding the shaft half way
  • Option to charge from 12V source: direct 12V preferred, but USB would be OK
  • I like the tapered mouthpiece on the Mini, it would be hard to give this up
  • Compatability with Mini charger would be nice, I've got a dozen of them!

So, any suggestions based on this list?

If those are truly your requirements, most new developments aren't there for you. You can get an automatic ego-like device. The echo is still out there for that. However, I can't imagine how but, apparently you've come to terms with the ridiculous battery life that the minis provide. There's nothing in your list about battery life. So, I don't think that's really what you're looking for.

If you're really using atomizers, I have to ask how you're using them. Are you dripping? Surely you're not still using carts.

There are a couple of ways to go with atomizers. You can get the Cisco spec atomizers at avidvaper or you can go on ikenvape and get some of those. A lot of people say they last a lot longer. The other way to go is to resign yourself to the fact that atties don't last that long and pay less for them. You can by them in bulk at vaporkings.

All of the above said, if you've never tried cartomizers, pick up a Volt kit at smokeless image and see if those will work for you. The cartomizers don't last longer than atomizers but, they are cheaper and they are a lot easier to use than atties and carts.

I think you are descriping the Provari.

What is it about that mod that makes people believe that it's the answer to every question? Did you actually read what was requested? Do you know what a DSE901 looks like?

The Provari will not:

  • Help atomizer life.
  • Be long and sleek like a 901.
  • Operate in the preferred automatic mode.
  • Be compatible with a mini charger.

There's nothing in his post a that indicates that the OP is interested in VV and that is the ONLY thing the Provari provides that effects the vape and the Provari falls short in several of the OP's requirements. If there's something I don't know, please educate me but, I think it's a real stretch to twist the OP's description into Provari.

Whew. I thought there was invisible ink I was missing. That made no sense to me either.

To the OP:
If you open up to a manual battery, the world opens up to you. There are a LOT of options out there, and I have seen some simple, yet elegant stainless 3.7 mods.

OK, I'll give it a try. What should I look for?

And yes, I'm still using carts with the nasty wadding, but I would rather not.

An easy suggestion that gives you a platform to grow with:
Elite Vaporworks KGO Starter Kit with Boge LR Cartomizers - KGO

It comes with everything you need to convert, and the Boge cartos are easy to deal with. Simple and functional. With the right drip tip this covers everythink on your list except the last bullet.

If you want to go a little deeper, something that isn't as high end as the provari but elegant would be a chrome vtube:
Apollo VTube Kit

A starter kit and add some boge cartos will get you going. You may prefer the mini and will still get FAR more battery life than you are used to. The options above can use drip tips for whatever feel you would like. There are so many choices out there you will get dizzy. The above just scratches the surface and we haven't talked about clearos, tanks, etc.

I've had a look at the models suggested in #9, not really slim or elegant are they? Not worried about battery life, I just carry spares. At present I get though about 10 a day.

The kgo is about as slim as any once you go bigger. I put up the vtube as comparison, but not...not slim at all. Elegant...subjective. The kgo is about the diameter of a sharpie, and without the carto is close to the size of a bic. Very pocketable. The battery comment...I have seen lots of 510 threaded slim batts. They are cheap, but I can't give much info, never used them.

GotVapes Vision VOLT Karma - 450mah Fat 510 Stick Style - CHROME

This doesn't fulfull all your preferences. But:
  • Must look elegant, long and slim with no bulges
  • Must not be white: silver or black preferred
  • LED must not be red or amber: blue preferred
[*]Automatic battery preferred, or a button I can reach without holding the shaft half way

  • I like the tapered mouthpiece on the Mini, it would be hard to give this up
[*]Compatability with Mini charger would be nice, I've got a dozen of them! - Comes with one anyway.
Above all, it's elegant! Me likey!

You should take a peek at the G6 kit from Halo at G6 Basic Starter Kit - G6 E-Cig
Looks like an KR808 - probably. Like the Volt.

Why? Do they have good battery life with regulated voltage? Are their cartos as good as SI's?

I think I've heard good things about them, if memory serves.

If the Kgo's out because of size, that pretty much kills all the fat batts and VV stuff. Really you're looking at the Bloog Max Fusion, the Halo G6 or the Volt. Those are all pretty much the same. I believe they all are available in automatic. None of them have what I would consider good battery life but, probably better than what you're using. They are are regulated. So, you don't get the fall off in voltage.

Usually the Volt is the better deal. I'm not sure what it comes with but, you can get pre-filled or blank cartos for it. It takes a KR-808-D1 threaded carto.

How about dripping? I just tried it and I'm hooked. You already have everything you need. Worth a try.
Absolutely! Dripping is so much better. But, ONLY if you have sealed batteries!!! Never drip with the old-style auto battery with the hole in it that juice can get down into!
