Did you try it thru a ss drip-tip yet, Dan?

Freakin' great thread.... Thanks for your service guys.

Nope have not tried a SS tip yet!

Hilarious as always Dan - I just watched the last video and figured out why you where making a prox swith.. Duh! You smart! :D

Thanks, will have it with me at VapeStock! Got to show off the new toys!

.......If this can be integrated into an auto switch by contact with your lips... WOW!

I don't wish to read all 65 posts.... it's probably been said, but just in case.... please make sure you have a master cut-off switch (and always use it) if you attempt this. There are a lot of materials and situations that could lead to activation of a touch switch capacitive or resistive.

Otherwise, nice going as always scubabatdan!

Thanks, I did mention that in the video, and have since added a main power switch to mine.
But thanks for adding that!

Cool, I was specifically referring to the "lip activation" thing that I quoted from MistBusterMatt and that you are talking about... although master cut off is important for general touch switches too.

The lip activated touch switch has some real concerns. I'm not sure it is something I would want. IDK how that chip works tho... is it capacitive? What would happen if some "lip scum" was left on the mouthpiece? Would it continually fire, for example?

Otherwise, using that chip and having a normal touch switch is very cool. Lots of mods have used various touch switches, purportedly without negative results. So, cool setup.

One thing I do find interesting...perhaps it is just me...When you put it in your pocket it doesn't come on according to your video. What if the side with the sensors is facing your leg? I mean, there's already thick plastic separating your finger from the sensors...a thin peice of fabric added to it is enough to prevent activation?

far from a normal touch switch, it Proximity!

scuba way ahead of the game

I meant that a "normal touch switch" is like a button, as compared to the "lip activated" thing I was posting about. I mentioned capacitive switches earlier. lol.

What I was getting to is... due to how capacitive switches (and controllers) function, if you had lip scum on the sensor-cart, would it "reset" to that capacitance after a bit, or would it continually fire? Kinda similar to Dalton63841's question too (thanks Dalton for making me type those #s, lol).

Could someone possibly draw up like a normal schematic instead of the black/red one posted so far. I'm not 100% sure I am reading it right. I think I understand it, but I want to be sure.

Scubabatdan this is just amazing. No other word for it.

Hope this helps:

Actually in the vide I made sure it was toward my leg and it did not turn on. However if you have change in you pocket or keys, that will turn it on. That is why I put a main on/off switch on it, now I can turn it off when I pocket it.

Missed his Q:, but I do not think that lip scum would cause it to fire. I have yet to get to makeing the lip version but it would be cool to try. I would put the sensor in the mouth piece somehow so that would not be an issue. just a large static field would cause it to fire.

You've done it to me again Scubabatdan (Java, Breaktru and the rest of ya instigators too).......... now I'm temporarily geeked out on the capacitive switches. It turns out that microchip has a PIC MCU with capacitive switch tech built in.

http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/DeviceDoc/41411A.pdf

Fully programmable..... PWM, Auto atty ohm reads (A/D converter), capacitive switches, voltage ref, and the like. Dang it. Only draw-back is that particular one is 40 pin (up to 32 buttons...lol).

I may just build that MCU e-cig yet.......

LOL Wow. I request a regular black and white schematic, and you come back with one that a monkey could follow! This will certainly make it simple to do. Thanks, now I can't wait to get parts!

I still find it interesting that the thin fabric of your pocket would prevent it from firing when the sensor is facing your leg, even though its already behind decently thick plastic, but I will simply consider it to be magic, until I become further educated on the matter. After all, any sufficiently advanced technology IS indistinguishable from magic anyway right? :p
