Err... That's 2mm Ekowool you can see in the picture...

There are two ways to do the coil... Either you do it freehanded which basically means that you use the wick as the guide / base or you use some kind of material (drill bit, steel rod, screw, toothpick, clip, etc) to make the coil first and wick it later.

Both have advantages and disadvantages.

Freehand:
+Easier to make
+sits always snug on the wick
+faster to do
- coil is sloppy
- much harder to make a full contact / micro coil
- almost impossible to replace wick without making a new coil

Assisted:
+much nicer and even coil
+much easier to make a full contact or micro coil
+easy to replace wicking without changing coil
-more time consuming to make the coil
-much harder to wick it properly but possible once you know some tricks
-greater chance of wicking improperly I. E. The wick sits too loose in the coil

I think that sums it up pretty much

That's obviously if you use silica or Ekowool...

Tony

Ps: micro coil is a coil where all turns are touching each other and whose inner diameter is 1.65mm or less. Full contact coil are the same thing as micro coils but the id is greater than 1.65mm. Personally I don't care how you call it but there are purists out there that will put you on a cross if you call a micro coil anything above 1.65mm...

It's FIFTYOFF. It's juice only & I see it is listed on their site. Wanted to try their Capella's Vanilla Custard to see if I would like it enough to learn to DIY. Have also been looking for a ruby red grapefruit & they have one.

Get the extra flavor shot -- their juices tend to be rather bland.

I did order flavor shots. Good to hear I should have. Thanks.

I've ordered a few of their juices, and haven't really liked them, till I got Banana Nut Bread -- and I got the flavor shot on that one, which I think makes the difference. But I only use it to mix with my Blueberry Muffin from Hard Rock Vapor -- or Sweet-Vapes; I get their Blueberry Muffin sometimes because they offer customizable PG/VG (I get theirs 100% PG to counter Hard Rock Vapor's 50/50) and also the standard mg strengths; Hard Rock only offers 8 or 16mg.

The FIFTYOFF made it worth my time to try them, since I really love grapefruit & haven't found one even close to what I am looking for. Less risky @ 50% off, that's for sure.

I guess the problem I have is figuring out how to thread the ekowool through the coil. My ekowool is from Kidney Puncher & it's cotton threaded, it frays like crazy on the cut end. Can't see how to get that thru the coil

1. Make a 2.5 mm id coil

2. Cut 10-12cm strand of 2mm Ekowool

3. Bend the Ekowool not in half but more at 1/4 of it so that one strand is longer than the other

4. Use 2 or 3 cm long kanthal wire and bend it u shape at the place where you bent the Ekowool and use it to pull the now double Ekowool through the coil (just a little bit... 1 cm or so)

5. Now you should have the coil with a bent Ekowool in it and one long leg and a short leg both on the same side. Pick the longer leg, wet the end a little (I use my mouth) so that it doesn't fry and place it near the coil between the two legs like a sandwich.

6. Gently and slowly keep pulling on the other side until the sandwiched part comes through the coil

Congrats... You now have a figure 8 wick on a full contact coil. Adjust the loops so they don't go over the flow channels and cut the ends of the wick close to the coil... Done :)

If you want I can take some pics of the procedure tonight and post them here.

I hate to put you out, but u lost me at #5. I have 1.5 mm & 4 mm. With the 4 I just wrap it a few times with 26 gauge, easy to do, but I feel I may be missing out on the full flavor potential.

Ok, I'm back

First I apologize for not making this on a rta /rba but I rewicked and recoiled them all yesterday so I didn't want to rip out a new wick. This was made on the table. The only difference is that normally you would wick the coil after installing it on the atty.

Here we go

1. Tools used:

51aef75f2d35d5feea681a3e2396e5c1.jpg

- torch (for the coil)
- hex driver 2.5 mm to assist coil making
- 10-12 cm Ekowool 2mm hollow
- same size kanthal A1 0.3 mm
- piece of 3-4cm kanthal piece

2. Wick the coil tightly after you pre burned it:

af76f1f26cc34d131a8250bd803fe55b.jpg

3. Heat the coil and compress it further with a pair of tweezers until it's compacted:

ae7ef30d80f779abec8f1a86bf4bebc2.jpg

4. You coil should look like this:

37f0daf3562bace97cb13da5dbdfcbf4.jpg

5. Bend Ekowool at 1/4 and use kanthal piece as guide :

b8242b66c7d6056af28ec050a7ffc28a.jpg

6. Start pulling it through the coil:

5f14edbde933fa65bfe3458b72463d9c.jpg

7. Now the trick people don't want to share... Bend the longer end like this:

676287226ac7bd91e315345942bc2ef4.jpg

8. Insert the end close to the coil sandwiched between the two strands:

4ee0065f9185e002a4009a253fbf5a24.jpg

9. Gently pull the sandwich through the coil until you see the end appearing on the other side:

6347735900a960c31aa7800cc716bac2.jpg

10. Pull the end further out and distribute the Ekowool evenly to have a butterfly shape:

2984ebc42c42e5170c6db34bd77da0e5.jpg

That's all... Now you would pull on the ends to adjust the size of each loop so it doesn't go over the flow channels and then you cut off the ends near the coil so you're left with just a loop on each side :)

I hope this time I explained it better.

Hi all :)
Didn't buy anything today but have in one of my shopping cart some 30ft of 0.3 kanthal wire and 15 ft of Ekowool... Oh and a couple of aerotank dripping tips. Not sure I should press the checkout button as I'm waiting for some comments about the Protank 3 mini drip tip equivalence to the stock aerotank one but haven't got anything about it yet.

How was your shopaholic day, hum? ;)

I got some juices I desperately needed today; ordered 2 (one with that FIFTYOFF coupon!) and bought a 3rd at a local shop -- can't be without my Blueberry Muffin! :)

Also ordered some more keyboard stickers; the keyboard that got the last set I ordered, the spacebar finally bit the big one, so I had to go ahead and get another keyboard -- about 2 wks ago, and already beginning to type the letters off. *sigh*

I also ordered an Igo-S dripper, thanks to comments from another thread that suggest this one may be more andria-friendly -- tighter draw, mainly. I hope so, because that caterpillar is basically useless to me. I'd sell it, except I really like the driptip from it. :D

hehe... so you had a good day :)

Don't talk about drip tips... I'm getting desperate with that protank 3 mini drip tip. Do you believe I even considered buying a lathe and make my own? ARGG... I must be the only person on the planet that doesn't want to have a big bore 10mm diameter sticks in my mouth... every single drip tip I've seen (and I've seen over 1000 today) are as wide as the 510 hole...

Maybe I'll just buy two or three protanks at FT, replace the tips and sell them for like $2 or $3 bucks each... I have some expensive totally wicked ones I would happily trade for those cheap stock pt3mini ones. I don't even understand why I like those stock ones so much... oh well...

speaking of which... do you know any good place that sells ekowool cheap? The best price I've found for 2mm hollow (original ekowool) is 2.42€ per 3 feet (thats 3.18 US dollars)... wanted like 15-30 feet.

Ekowool -- he's got other varieties of ekowool, that's the hollow-core; you can get 12 feet for $15... or 24 feet for $23.50... and up.

He's a great guy too; when the USPS apparently lost my tiny lil bit of silica, he sent me a replacement pkg by priority mail. The site says they're now shipping worldwide via DHL.

And it looks like a good place for me to get some more plastic bottles, which I need with all this DIY nonsense going on. :D That's a new item in the inventory. When I first started buying from him, he had wick and wire, period. :D

I like my caterpillar, what don't u like? The drip tip is great, kinda spreads the vape around the mouth. But I think it's really easy or build a dual coil on, easier than my stillaire. Easy is my qualification, since I love a fresh ekowool build, so I build it quite often.

Too airy, even with all but one hole closed; at first it's like I'm getting nothing, then WHAM! scorched lips and throat and lungs, asthma attack. I don't even put a dual in it, just a single, but it's not my thing at all. I do like that driptip though; I've been using it with a carto, and it's really nice. I'm hoping that Igo-S will suit me better, tighter draw; something that draws more like a tank, in other words -- I keep my kayfuns more than half closed-off.
