I developed some years ago thyroid problems and at the same time my mouth and eyes became dry..perfect teeth suddenly at age 35 began to fall apart, and now that I've started vaping it seems to be getting even worse at a much faster rate. Drinking extra has not helped before and doesn't now...I'm pretty sure my thyroid levels have tanked as well. Going to the doc tomorrow, in fact. I enjoy vaping and gave up analogs entirely, but I wish I felt better!

Nicotine itself is hygroscopic (obsorbs moisture-Kinda like salts and stuff used to preserve dry foods, instant coffee, etc.) PG might be as well. I've found drinking a few extra glasses of milk a day along with chewing gum has eliminated my dry mouth.
But I'd glady take tooth decay over lung cancer.

i have not noticed any tooth decay but i did notice that i got 2 canker sores right after starting to vape. and when i went to put OTC medicine on the sores i noticed that my gums were starting to get brown. i going to the dentist next week but has this happened to anyone else?
Canker sores are a common symptom of smoking cessation. Brown gums... Hmmm... What did you put on the canker sores!?

Most grocery stores and drug stores now sell dry-mouth toothpaste, mouthwash, and "fake spit" (it has a nicer name I cannot remember). It's generally formulated without detergents, and is full of "good-saliva enzymes" . Biotene is the only brand name I recall.

(this is good right? anything and EVERYTHING the FDA approves causes dry-mouth)

I had my teeth scaled by a dental technician the other day. She said that my gums have actually improved, likely because I'm avoiding mouth breathing. I showed her my e-cig and explained how it works. She thought it was an interesting device and didn't try to persuade me to stop using it - we agreed that I'm sort of guinea pig at this point. She's marked down that I'm using it so that we can see how my mouth looks in six months from now. Here's hoping for the best. :D

I will keep everybody updated.

PS: I'm using zero nic juice.

I do notice my gums seem a bit sore, but thats because I have gum disease, and smoking was masking the symptom. I have been to the dentist since I started vaping and the first thing she said to me when I opened my mouth was, "You quit smoking!" This surprised me because I always refrained from smoking right before going to the dentist and used massive amounts of moutwash because I didnt want to subject them to my nasty campfire breath. I asked her how she knew and she said my gums were a normal color and she couldnt smell it anymore.

I do notice that my mouth is a bit dry since vaping, but I view that as a plus as I rarely drank water, but am reminded to do so pretty reguarly now. I guess it would suck if vaping caused dental issues, but I guess its better than cancer and/or lung issues. From my experience everything you really enjoy has a negative aspect, guess its natures way of keeping things in balance. I do enjoy vaping ALOT, so Ill take a couple little negatives with the benefit of not being cold all the time, not stinking, having more energy, sleeping better and breathing better. I used to take pretty horrible care of myself, and with the noticeable health benefit of quitting smoking, its caused me to put more focus on becoming more healthy all around.

Keep us updated Blue, my dentist made a note of it as well to see if vaping was causing any adverse impact from the dental perspective.

Let the "you must work for the FDA, troll" replies begin. Seems like whenever someone around here voices a vaping health concern, the FDA accusations follow.

Yeah, the FDA approved aspartame (sugar substitute), and it is an obnoxious poison, now it is in every "diet" product in the market including ALL chewing gum brands you can find at any convenience store or supermarket.

***That is why you can see my gums are now blue and butterflies have grown off my skull.****

Great for the FDA being so concerned about kids health...

Any updates from anyone on dentists opinions of vaping?

I'm going to be getting my wisdom teeth removed in about a month (at over 30, I should have had them removed long ago).

I got a tooth pulled a couple of years ago, and was warned not to smoke, because a) teh suction could lift the clot and give me dry socket' and b) because the nicotiene rediced blood flow. I ignored the advice and managed just fine, but this time it's going to be 4 teeth and I'm vaping instead of smoking, and I vape pretty much nonstop (taking a puff every 5m or so, instead of a cigarette every 45m or so) and wondering what the difference will be.

I've had a few dental problems as well, and began using Xylitol gum which eliminated the problems. Here's a link....

Xylitol Products - Xylitol Gum, Xylitol Mints and More from Epic Dental

Do your own due diligence, but this is the only true treatment that can repair cavities and helps reverse any negative dental problems. There are other brands as well, compare xylitol and fluoride .....

Hope this helps...

Wondering if anyone else has used (Saliva Stimulating) Xylitol Mints and has had success or noticed benefits. I take great care of my teeth and don't want to lose them or develop serious issues.

I don't get dry mouth at all either...but then gain I've a pierced tongue...which stimulates the saliva glands...

Years ago, I read something about public speakers that often as a trick put a small glass bead under their tongue to stimulate the saliva glands and keep their mough from drying out when speaking...I'm sure the ball on the bottom of the piercing works the same way..

Well, I know from aging that the enamel starts wearing off. When I first started vaping two months ago, I noticed my teeth were kind of just hurting in general. Not a go to the dentist kind of pain, but you knew something was going on. I recently switched to Sensodyne (sp??) that claims to promote or help tooth enamel. About a week later, pain was completely gone as if nothing has happened. I think that with making myself drink water after vaping, has really helped a lot.

Here's my dental update.

I went to the dentist yesterday for a cleaning and check-up. During my last visit, I had been using my e-cig every day for about an hour. However, I started to experience terrible dry mouth, and my tongue became especially sore. Drinking lots of water did not help, so I decided to quit. My hygienist was aware of my e-cig usage, so I told her that I stopped. She said that my gums have shown great improvement since the last checkup, and she mentioned the improvement and the e-cig when the dentist came in. They were very pleased that I had quit because of the drying effects of PG. "Moisture is your friend."

I still miss my e-cig - it was my replacement for cigars - but PG is just too harsh on my mouth. (I haven't tried VG, but it has similar drying properties.) :(

I am going to watch this thread. I have this thing about keeping my teeth always in good health. I recently went to the dentist for cleaning, check-up and x-rays. Everything is fine and improved since I quit smoking analogs (no more ugly nicotine stains etc). I have been vaping for over 5 months. Yikes I do not want dental problems8-o on the other hand I most certainly do not want lung problems. I will research and try the dental mousse mentioned earlier here.
