All I have these days are a Kenwood TH-22AT 2m Handheld and Baofeng Handheld 2m-440Mhz lol
My father had TONS of equipment that he sold off, but my favorite was our Yaesu FT-100D in the SUV with the Yaesu ATAS-120 Auto Tuning Antenna! I used to be on the road a lot so I got to talk to A LOT of people in many places with that setup!

The prices these days are whats keeping me from getting another and building back my collection.. :(

I'm also just a Tech, but with the band limits(Latest Changes) I'm good for now! :D

Edit* Cross-Band is a GREAT feature!! :thumb:
Ohhh ... I still have the original FT-100 and used to run mobile CW with it all the time. 17 meter cw was GREAT! Lots of good DX ;)

No, not in my log... Been a ham since 81 and mainly operate QRP CW and PSK31 now. Got my Extra way back when you needed to pass the 20wpm CW test lol...

I live in an apartment now and have an indoor loop HF antenna that I use with my FLEX-1500 software defined radio. Other than that, some local repeater stuff and weak signal 2m/70cm stuff...
Gotcha, Thats one of my Uncles. He's big in the 2m/70cm section up there, believe he just set up a Repeater actually. But, he does do HF a good bit, he's also on the Computer side with D-Star and whatnot, idk I need to call him actually lol...

FLEX-1500 SDR, if I remember right, thats a mighty nice SDR!! :thumb:

Some years back where they gave Tech's more HF space..

I'm KI4DLK btw :D

Edit* 6m SSB... I miss it so much.... I NEED another HF TRANSCEIVER!! If I can make it to NY, my Uncle said he would give me his FT-897D!

Also, used to have a FT-817, that was a fun QRP radio!

I've never tried those modes, I'll have to check them out...
I always wanted to try those modes but by the time I could, we we had to sell all our Equipment, damn tough times..

I remember one mode I used, to send and receive images using a box between the Computer and Radio but cant remember what it was..

To clarify an earlier statement ("50% fail"), I'm not certain that is the case now. As I compare the one that worked, with the ones I can't get to, they appear to be relatively identical. The issue may well be with the user, in that I simply have difficulty trapping the screw on the side that has very little deck on its far side.

I can make them work, but it takes a LOT of effort (like a bazillion or so attempts at trapping). I, too, have big, clunky hands, and really karpy eyes.

I like the tank a lot, but it IS smaller than I usually prefer, and if I can't find a way to make it work easily, I'll probably forego it for the larger ones, with which I've no problem at all. And I didn't like the "4" at all (strictly personal preferences, one and all).

DISCLAIMER: All this is, of course, theoretical, since Kat & I are using the "KF Drop-In Coils" (or however she phrased it), as she had previously indicated.

Point being, if you're good with this stuff, IGNORE MY EARLIER STATEMENT. Buy with confidence (while I blister-pack my way to ultimate happiness).

:rickroll:
What KF drop in coils?

I'm using a juice that's really high VG, but it's not listed ANYWHERE (what the exact mix is). It's running fine, but I do need to recoil (Ha!) often. The juice is Namber Nostalgia, if anyone knows what that mix is. It's fargin' THICK (is all I know).
Namber Juice is Grimm Green's line of juices. Try his site to see the ration. I know he has a version of his juices in high vg.

My 2 new ones must have the airflow closed, no light. Please walk me through adjusting? I am so impatient to get these going! Thanks!

Do make sure the air adjust screws are backed out, at least flush with the bottom of the base. If you still can't see through the two holes, you may want to adjust.

You need to make the adjustment with the KF opened up, and while it can be done with a coil in, it may get damaged.

Important to use the right size screwdriver! You're going to turn the 510 screw at the bottom of the base. It's probably very tight, and the wrong size driver may damage it. With the base in your left hand, turn that screw counter-clockwise just a little, while looking through the air intake. If you go 1/4 turn that way and still don't see the light :)p), then it needs to go the other way. Loosening the screw will also loosen the positive block inside - why you have to have it open.

And you don't want the 510 pin sticking way out...

If you need to, make a tiny insulating washer from, say, a carto condom.

I use a pair of pliers to hold the two block in place (well, the negative block isn't going to move!) when retightening. Makes it easier to align the positive block.

And check resistance with no coil after done, to make sure the pos block hasn't rotated into contact with the neg. (Although if you did manage all that with a coil on, you should see the same resistance as before the process.)

Hard to explain, actually pretty easy to do :thumb:

That is what I use and it is much better than any premixed menthol I have ever tried.

KD0LWU here, I was assigned that mouthful!

Anyway, the Chalice III. I started with a .8 ohm build with 32ga, no love for that build, not enough coil to wick! Then I did a 28ga 1 ohm build, a really nice build on this atty. GREAT flavor, BUT, it's a juice hog! I get two or three hits and it's got to be "sqounked" again. I've burnt around 6ml in two hours! Here's more crappy cell phone pics, but you get the idea of how small this thing is to be so thirsty!

Use the pliers, Luke.

Gas pliers, or the ubiquitous "channel lock" type slip joint. Grip both blocks with the pliers, they WILL be aligned! Tighten / adjust the 510 screw, remove pliers. Done. :)

I didn't have any luck with the 2 Chalice clones I bought. They've been collecting dust. I bought a Vortice clone and I really like it. Plenty of air flow and good flavor too!
