If i am cobfused about. USPS and their policy on Luthium Ion batteries then so is eBay, Etsy, Bonanza, and Amazon.well that's not what usps' website says and it has not been my experience. Either the rules have changed over time or the employees you interacted with didn't understand the rules or both
I have had to bring copies of the rules to the post office so they would accept items because the employees were not up to speed. Specifically, sending used motor oil samples to a lab for analysis is a notorious example of usps employees being troublesome.
@Katdarling
Fantastic post and a very good read, I'll raise my Erl and salute ya.
A credit to the forum, modest to the end, such a valued member and such a dear sweet friend.
((((Kattykins))))
Fantastic post!!! Can it be pinned so others can easily learn of the illustrious history of the Tootle Puffers?
Me too…and proud of it!

What happened to my honorable mention for introducing the 25 mm tall bell cap for the kayfun.
Now @Katdarling named my "short Kayfun" the Kompact Kayfun ", and the name stuck.

Seems like I have a problem with discarding batteries. If it will still holds a bit of a charge ... I still have it!
Hell I still have a bunch of old Trustfires in the bottom of the drawer. Haven't used them in 5+ years ... but I still have them. And yes, they still hold a charge.
It was expressed to me early on that where you buy batteries is more important than which battery you choose to use, and I still believe that to be true.
To a point that's probably true for most of the people in this thread. On a regulated mod at low Tootle Puffer power levels the battery isn't going to see much stress. It was expressed to me early on that where you buy batteries is more important than which battery you choose to use, and I still believe that to be true.
The problem with a Trustfire battery is that it is a rewrap so you don't really know what battery is underneath the wrap.
NO, that's not true. Trustfire batteries were the top of the heap for protected ICR batteries.
The problem with them is that they are ICR (lithium Cobalt) cells. ( along with being a low amperage battery)
We used them in machanicals a lot back in the day, but with 1.5 or more ohms. (~2.5 amps)
Beside the amperage limitations we simply came to the conclusion that the chemistry of the battery was not a good choice as other chemistries (IMR & INR) became available.
"Portions" of both posts are correct... You are correct in what you say above and @kad2371 is correct about battery stress with "low power" regulated vs mech mods ....

So it's all about HOW the mechanical mod is used.
I so agree with you and that's why I've always only bought them from RTD and only AW IMRs.
I would always advise buying from a trusted and reputable vendor. Batts are not criminally expensive, but they ARE the most important part of our gear.
I like Orbtronics, and RTD. There are other great vendors, but I'd never put FT into that kategory.
