I would say 3 months is about right for changing coils for me too. Have you used any SS wire yet? I have some but it gives a weird after taste I think. It maybe just the kind I have its UD 316. I thought about trying some other kind but afraid it will be the same.
Haven't yet. Not sure I want to since the ohms are so low. I like 1.5.

With KGD (or any cotton) I've found that tighter is better for flavor. I've always made cotton wicks that will slip and slide back and forth through the coil easily. I assumed that the juice would swell it once it was wetted.

For a while now, I've been making KGD wicks that I have to twist really tight on the end to enter the coil. I have to twist the wick and pull it to make it slide through the coil. I get a little bunch up on either side of the coil when it's in place. If I do that, there's a boost in flavor that I never got from smaller wicking.

I always avoided a tight wick thinking it would starve from the pressure at the coil. Not so. My wicks these days would bend the coil legs if I didn't twist and pull at the same time to make it move through the coil.
I have to have that little twisted end to start the wick through the coil, (2.5), but I don't have it cut so wide that I really have to twist much to get it to slide on thru. The cotton loosens & gets fluffy just from handling it & wicks great. I juice it down, paste the ends in place to just touch the deck with a tiny arch where it goes through the coil. Plenty of juice flow, no leaking or gurggling.
Working on pics.

Ive been able to hit 1ohm but its a minimum of a 3mm id coil. I ran one in my Monster V3 for awhile but the taste just put me off and I am back to just plain ole 28g kanthal in most everything with a couple using 30g kanthal.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking would have to be done. I think I'm happy with 2.5 & kanthal. I like a slightly warm vape & don't like what I get at lower ohms.
Pics on their way!

Very interesting to see the differences in build styles and what people use for a daily vape. To me that build just screams not enough wick.

I build more like this, the Rayon tails are not trimmed yet.

Mine is 28g Kanthal on 2.5 id, at 1.5ohms & about 14 - 15 watts. This wick fills the coil without being super tight & sucks up juice. It's not fiddly, i don't have to trim or shape tails, & I never get a dry hit. Juice holes don't get blocked either. Just wick & vape. I D2L about 3 full hits at a time

I know good sir, all is good!

I was pondering one of the Coil Master 521 Tab's as well, but didn't need a new desktop toy to raise any questions from SWMBO...
SWMBO...how cool. A reference to the book "She" by H. Rider Haggard, I assume!

My style is much like yours with the thinking that the extra wick is a reservoirs of liquid and can allow higher power when needed. The only exception to that rule is my Orchid where I trim the wicks as close as I can to the chimney barrel threads and trim them up pretty thin not allot of room in that one but I did dremel the juice channels to about 2 times the stock flow.

Yup, you need the trimmed tails and shoulders with Rayon, it wicks automatically from the least to the most dense.

My Goblin Mini V2, Silverplay V1 and Aqua II all have Orchid style decks. The main part of the wick is cut flush to the chimney diameter and a few very thin tails lightly placed in the juice channels. Orchid style decks wick beautifully IMHO.

What bits did you use?

I used this one not sure what its called but it did the job pretty quickly. The rod next to it is a 3mm coil master jig. I did this and then drilled the airflow to 2.5mm from the outside and then down from the deck also. The Orchid frustrated me because it was too loose for a MTL and too tight for a DL. Opening up the airholes to 2.5mm each and routing out the juice flow channels to 3mm made a REALLY nice vape. When I build it I push the coils all the way down to the deck as far as they will go. They do move up just enough on their own not to short. It is a super flavor machine with a nice restricted lung inhale. Its not one of these super cloud comp types but it is impressive for what it is.
