So, today was the first day in a long time that I had a full day to myself. I took the opportunity to clean my atties with the plan of recoiling and rewicking. Note I said planned. My goal was to recoil a wine, 2 kf mini v3, 2 kf v5, and a fatty. Well after futzing for nearly 4 hours I have a wine, and a kf v5. The rest, no matter what I did (tried 27g, 26g and 24g) would NOT take. I couldn't get both screws to catch with the wire to safe my life!! I tried replacing screws, switching screws, etc. and nothing but frustration. I got so fed up, I went into the stash and took back out my subtank and nano with blister pack coils!!!

What am I doing wrong? I love my kfs, especially the v3 mini and fatty. Is there a FT link for new shorter screws so I can have a bunch? Or do I just give up? I'm so frustrated right now I could scream. Sigh.

    Thanks for letting me vent.
You've got to do The TD Scratch. It's essential, and works like a charm.

    Do you know it? [emoji4]

Sorry you're frustrated, Pokes. I just don't even bother with less than 28g on my kf v3 minis. What resistance coil are you seeking?

I have heard in the past that you might take a triangle file and channel a teensy bit under the screw to give a little bit more room to grab the wire? I don't have an angle file, and the last time I tried to mod an atty, I gorked it :(

P.S. If you're looking for lower-resistance coils, I've been using 28g Nichrome wire. I have both my V3s about 0.8 ohms, but I could wind a normal coil (about 7 wraps)

Oh man , i went through the exact same thing and i was ready to freak out and go berserk , no joke, i was actually shaking i was so ...... & i am extremely docile & non threatening in nature.

You will laugh but it was such a simple solution , i am 51 and i did not realize my vision was so atrocious.

As soon as i put a pair of readers on i was coiling till the cows came home & i don't own any cows but if i did i do know they rarely ever come home , (very very slow walkers) & they take their sweet time (probably on purpose) because they instinctively know you are in a rush to go somewhere.

Enough of the cows , anyways thought i would share , now i'm all ...... off at cows , got to lay down now .

    Good luck
    LMAO!

pokes, I feeeeeeeeeeeel your pain. The KFM are a drive ya krazy koil adventure. I do believe that the bases and screws are not all that and more, and it's NOT you.

    One word: Egg Rolls.

I worry about the egg rolls. I had an original ego one when they first came out (you know me). Not the mega or the xl, but the original 18 mm one. I didn't like the vape. I tried it with clr coils once those came out and it whistled and I still didn't like the vape. I got a decent hit one out of 4 tries. People are saying that they are the same tank with just a new window, if that is true, I don't think I would like the tank.

So, I ask, is it true. Is the only difference between the original ego ones and the new egg roll, the window on the tank?

    Thanks.

    My instinct says to avoid...

None of mine whistle, and I need to turn the AFC way down, but I do enjoy the vape. I find it to be very similar to the Aspire BVCs, actually (when turned WAY down). But you know what they say about taste, eh? ;-)

    Use one of these:

I did it to all of my "Mini" style KF's (as per the instructions of @TrollDragon , hence the "TD Scratch" moniker), and it totally solved the issue. I could NOT get the dang wires to trap on those things.

    Now, easy-peasy.

I have files (more accurately, my husband has files - and just about every other tool that a person could want), is the picture accurate or mirrored/reversed? I go high on the left side of the screw down at an angle?

    Thanks!!!! And thanks @TrollDragon!

You KNOW I do love my Aspire BVCs!! My ceros are the two tanks that no matter what give me NO hassles.

BTW, the other day you were talking about coils on FT. How do you order the BVCs from them do you use a credit card? I tried adding some in my cart (you're right the price is amazing) but they would let me use PP.

All of mine are currently engaged, but I thought that's the correct angle. I did the far side of the screw, where I wrap around. The truth is that my eyes kinda stink, so mine look a lot more just-scratched-up than TD's nice grooves. For me, just roughing up the surface did the job.

I haven't missed a single wrap since, in fact.

We can't (and I can't be bothered). You have to buy a gift-certificate, then apply it. Kat's done it a bunch of times, but I'm too impatient. I bought a bunch from Discount Vapers when they had a good sale, so I really haven't needed to worry about it. She can explain it better than I can, and I think there are others here too...(?).

Not FT prices, but I try to support them whenever possible, since it's likely I'd have failed at this vaping thing without the endless assistance of Mr. Gormly. HE, unlike ME, was quite patient (with me).

    You are most welcome!

You could put the channel on either side, trapping the wire on the way into the screw head or leaving it. You just need a little groove for the wire to sit in.

I do this to all my posts that have excellent quality round bottom Chinese screws.

FDV makes some nicely machined, flat bottom, knurled SS screws. They have no slot in the top so you would need to cut one or use pliers to get them tight.

I found them a little large in the KF3.1

Looking at the deck from the top, yes, you would want the channel to start high left to lower right. The screw is "righty-tighty/lefty-loosey" So, if you picture how you'd set the wire, the channel would then be in the correct spot to help trap. I also use extra length and wrap back around my mandrel in order to help hold while I set the screw.

I couldn't imagine using wire above 28g on a kayfun. I had a heck of a time getting 28 to stay down. Finally got my vapemail this morning. I have now standardized on the kayfun mini v3. I'm going to pickup two more next month. I want at least 5 of them.

    Plus a bazillion on DV!

Having said that, buying Aspire anything from FT requires that you first buy a gift certificate, and you CAN use a credit card for that (PP). Once you've got your cart ready, you simply fill in your gift cert number and order away! This weirdness only applies to Aspire products.

If anyone goes that road, and has any issues, I'd be more than happy to walk it with you. PM me anytime.

Those are kinda sweet, TD. Can't one just turn them to tighten?
