I can't believe it took so long, and a little help, for me to figure that out!!

I'm just glad it's working for you! I wasn't the originator of the "wrap the extra length around the mandrel" trick. I cussed that for a LONG time before someone pointed it out to me. I learned the "wrap wire around the screw in the same direction it tightens" MANY, MANY years ago....

What's a mandrel? I don't know if I know that trick or not.

While you got them all at the same time, your vendor might have mixed batches, although shelf life is a minor factor.

But tolerances in the manufacturing process means that all batteries are not the same, even though they meet all the same specs - i.e. within tolerances. So maybe the weak one now just started out at the low end?

Just a thought, in case the charger bay gets ruled out.

Also, if you have an appropriate meter, record the battery voltage coming out of the charger, then 20 -30 minutes later, then the next day. Any significant fall-off indicates the battery is approaching end of life. When that happens, the CDR also goes down... may not be an issue for tootlers, but...
Thanks for the explanation David.

Sorry, just the jig on which I wind my coils. The "stick"? The "screwdriver"? It's helpful if it's long enough to hold while getting the long legs back around it to keep everything in place while setting the screws....

Expanding....

With much longer legs, get the coil wrapped and start to set a leg around one of the screws. Take that length and wrap it back on the "opposite" side and it helps hold the wire under the screw so you can let go with one hand and start to tighten the screw.....

Just whatever you wound the coil on.

I don't do the wrap back method, but it's VERY important to wrap the lead in the direction the screw goes, so the screw doesn't try to push the wire out.

Use of some sort of building block is helpful. I cut a small block of wood, drilled a 1/4" hole and pressed in a spare ego adapter. Makes a nice stable platform to hold my toppers while building. While not as convenient as some of the newer devices - i.e. no resistance check or test firing - it's sure cheap!

With the topper on the build platform, I find it relatively easy to push the wire under the screw and hold it there with my left hand while the right hand wields the screwdriver.

SWEET! I have phat phingers, and working on little decks like that is harder for me. Also, wrap the wire in the direction the screw turns to tighten (I actually learned that a LONG time ago....) I think @pokemom is having a bit of success now, too :)

I learned the "wrap wire in the screw tightening direction" waaaay back in highschool electricity class, learning to wire up houses.(~ 1970 something). :)
For me the issue was not having enough fingers to hold the wires in place tightly to turn the screw with the other hand,if that makes any sense?I'd get there but it'd take a while as I fumbled along. With wrapping the wire around the mandrel it's no fuss,no muss DONE...Love it,and I'll be doing it this way from now on.

Thanks Agin!!!

@DavidOck, pictures? I think you're the one who edumacated me on that. Either you or @TrollDragon?
Nope wasn't me either, sawee. :D

I file a groove on my trapping decks for the smaller gauge wire to rest in. So much easier.

I am finding myself building with 22g or parallel 24g in more RTAs these days, trapping on those wires is not an issue. :D

I wrap using 30ga for the most part, and you can't file groves in a holes that the wire goes through. ;)
I did have to buy a big ole magnifying lamp so that I could see the holes tho'.

I need a magnifying glass to see the wire.

I dunno. HRM does NOT like anyone or anything...... Well, that's not entirely true. She doesn't like the Big Dumb Dog, but she tolerates SO and me. She seems to like a couple of others who enter the house, but she can be picky. She's 14, so I get it.

I lost on naming him "Squonk" :( SO just doesn't get it......

@Krisma - the AIOs arrived today. I know you're MTL, but I've dropped in the 0.25 Notch. BOY, that things spits :sneaky: Playing with settings.... May just need to let it set for a bit.
